Located in New Castle, this cabin is near theme parks and in the mountains. While the natural beauty of Iron Mountain Hot Springs and Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park can be enjoyed by anyone, those looking for an activity can check out Glenwood Hot Springs.
Be sure to check out the area's animals with activities such as game walks and birdwatching.
Beautiful views, very quiet and remote. We saw no elk or goats which was disappointing. Also, being that it is so remote, I was disappointed to find out that the water is not potable only after arriving at the house. We had to drive back into town to get drinking water shortly after arriving.
Mary is wonderful at communicating and making sure everything goes smooth. The place was just the get-a-way we needed for our friendâs wedding. We will return! The views are absolutely amazing and is such a peaceful place to stay. Highly recommend.
My dad, my husband and myself stayed at the cabin and we had a truly relaxing time. The area is surrounded by amazing scenery and is so peaceful. The 2-person hammock was great for stargazing at night. The July heat did make it a little difficult to sleep but there were fans in the house and they helped direct air flow.
We had a wonderful private get away in this no thrills cabin. The views of the stars, sunrises and sunsets were worth it on their own. But it gave my family a place to branch off and explore Rifle Gap State Park.Mary is also an incredibly generous host. Thank you for a great stay!
Really enjoyed staying in this remote cabin where it comfortably fit our family of 5 and 2 dogs. Grilled outside in the evening and enjoyed laying out on the hammock. Unbelievable views of the stars at night and enjoyed the secluded area - so peaceful! Not far from the local town - 12 minutes drive - if you needed to get some groceries or grab a coffee from the local coffee shop. Mary was an incredible host and even watched our dogs during the day due to the heat (100 degrees!) so we were very appreciative of her offer. Couldn't be happier with our visit and would definitely come back!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this little cabin on a hill. It was as secluded as as can be with beautiful surroundings. The cabin itself was very clean with everything we needed. We didnât see any elk but the goats came by quite often and were very entertaining. We would definitely stay there again
This was our second trip to the Elk Cabin and we absolutely loved it. The cabin is so cozy. You feel worlds away from the hustle and bustle but the city is just 20 minutes away. Mary and Terry are incredible hosts and always available for any problems. We canât wait to come back for a third time!
We were looking for something unique for our visit to Colorado. This place was wonderful! Great views, elk visits and quiet! Mary our host was communicative and helpful. The house fit our needs perfectly. I hope to return someday!
This place is amazing. It was our 2nd time staying and it was great! Very secluded, perfect for star-gazing, and overall delightfully peaceful. The cabin is super cozy- feels like home.
We had a great time. The location and property were terrific. We loved seeing the elk up close one morning and loved having a spot to ourselves for the weekend. Mary was great to communicate with.
We did a short, 2 night break at the cabin and had a wonderful time. The views were just as spectacular as advertised, but what we didn't expect was how clean and comfy the cabin itself was. We did a lot of cooking and grilling, and the kitchen was very well-appointed and included everything that we needed. Beds were clean and comfortable as well. As others have mentioned, having the elk wander up in the morning while we were enjoying our coffee was definitely a special experience. Very highly recommended!
This place does not disappoint! Spectacular views! Beautiful wildlife! Unbelievably peaceful!
Exactly the place to be if you want to get away from the world!
Stayed here for two nights to slow down with our kids after 4 busy vacation days. The kids collected firewood for the fire pit, climbed some trees. We ate smores and chatted with the Elk on the other side of fence! Mary was so communicative and friendly. Her joy of hosting was so evident. We felt so welcomed. This is a special little cabin.
We love staying in unusual VRBOs and this did not disappoint! So fun to have morning coffee with elk.
This house is not far from I-70 but feels truly away from it all. Itâs hard to take photos of the Rockies that are any good, but there are panoramic hills all around the property. It looks like some guests even ventured up in the winter.
The house is charming and unique with lovely cabin touches. Would definitely recommend.
If you love the outdoors, animals, wonderful views or peace and quiet, book this property.
This property is way off the grid and has the typical challenges presented as such but that is why you are booking here in the first place =). The property is up a very steep hill and is surrounded by a nice tall fence for pets if you have any. We enjoyed roasting marshmallows in the fire pit and laying in the hammock enjoying the views and wildlife.
I couldnt be more pleased with the owners, they were not only very communicative but straight went out of their way to help us during our stay. Our car unfortunately got a flat tire and had to be towed out but the owner helped give us a ride and ensured we had a place to stay while we dealt with the car. They also let us borrow an extra dog crate they had to help with our pup. I hope we can head back and visit again!
My husband and our 2 dobermans had a wonderful experience! Mary & Terry's property is absolutely beautiful! It was so relaxing to watch the elk, the night sky, and gaze at the beautiful mountains. Our 2 dogs loved the property and enjoyed barking at the elk! The cabin is clean and so cute. Drive to glenwood springs is about 25 minutes. Mary gave us some local recommendations and even some elk steaks and ground meat! We cant wait to be back
This house is so unique! It was great to get away from the city for a few days and really relax. We enjoyed watching the elk, hearing the elk and cows, watching shooting stars, roasting marshmallows, playing board games. Mary is very responsive and easy to work with. With her directions the house is easy to find. We canât wait to come back!!
We liked the dog friendly fenced in yard.
Our family rode the Gondola & saw the caves at Glenwood Springs. We also had a fly fishing float trip and went white water rafting.
Wonderful getaway, definitly not mainstream. Extreamly quite, beautiful veiws, starry nights. Our weather was warm, no A/C. The fenced yard was perfect for our dogs.
Terry Porter was born and raised here in New Castle and makes Porter Ranch his home and living. He raises Rocky Mountain Elk here, and is a custom Hay Rancher. Custom hay IS our bread and butter, but we also have goats.. a lot of goats...and raise 2 natural bred imported dogs, lakeland terriers and pepper and salt giant schnauzers. come visit any time.
This cabin is for those special someone's who really want to get away from it all. You are completely secluded, with all the luxuries of home..you must be judicious with the power, and understand that there is a lot of responsibility with being in with the elk. BUT,,,,talk about a unique experience. You will love it... DOGS are free but must be crated or go with you.. or they will eat my curtains and break windows when the elk approach. If its hot, please check with me to house them in my basement. They are NOT allowed up hanging lake.. FYI>
Covered front porch, nice outside clawfoot tub for a sun shower, or a dog bath, private gazebo and complete solitude. Outside grill and fire pit, pull out couch and walk out grade Colorado red stone patio. Really nice and very very private.FREE WIFI NOW. It is slow. FYI.
