Property is in need of a major update. Old, dusty decor and yellow tinge to the walls. Furniture is nasty, beds are hard and thereâs a musty smell throughout. Thereâs also parts of the floor that are soft. Location was greatâŠjust a few steps to the beach and the kitchen was well stocked. Overall, I think I will pick another property next time.
Cat 5 was a great spot right on the beach. It is a nice condo but is in need of a major refresh and is the only reason I didn't rate it as a 5 star. Otherwise, I have nothing but good things to say. It was well equipped, spacious, and great for a family. The neighbors were nice as well. Ft. Morgan has a secluded feel and Cat 5 also had this feel because the beach was never crowded.
Fort Morgan is highly recommended if you want to be out of the fray but still fairly close to amenities. The beach at Fort Morgan Townhomes is vast and was never crowded, the pool area is well maintained and quiet due to the small number of units in the complex. The complex is simple but comfortable. The unit itself is a decent amount of space, but like another reviewer wrote it could use a refresh. The deck space on the beach side is ample and the view is incredible...exactly what we were hoping for. The drive into Gulf Shores is about 20-25 minutes but there is a decent convenience store at Sassy Bass. We would absolutely visit Fort Morgan again!
I highly recommend Cat 5. You wonât find a condo closer to the beach. It was well stocked and comfortable. A little outdated but I think the price reflects that well. The stairs are a little steep. But manageable. 2 bedrooms 1 bathroom upstairs and 1 bathroom with pullout couch on the main level. 7 of us fit comfortably. Great water pressure and water heater. The thermostat was wonky but it never got too hot in there. And there were tiny sugar ants in the kitchen some mornings.
The drive into Gulf Shores is about 25 minutes. Worth the drive to Oyster House to eat lunch. Tacky Jacks 2 there close to the condo is pricey and small portions but the food was good. Sassy Bass is the same though the portions were a little better there.
2 things put a damper on our trip.
1. Smokers not respecting others rights to smoke free air. 4 ladies were chain smoking on the beach right next to us.
2. People not keeping their dogs on a leash. We are dog people but I donât like random dogs running up to my children while theyâre playing on the beach.
Neither of those will negatively impact our decision to stay at Cat 5 again.
We had a great time and will be back!
We love the Fort Morgan Townhome's and have stayed in other âSâ series rentals. We were very disappointed with this one. It is extremely outdated and in desperate need of updating. There were several âsoftâ spots in the floors where it appeared the sub flooring needs replaced. The table on the deck was severely rusted and chunks were falling off of it and the front of the oven was rusted as well. The shower head in the master bathroom was coming out of the wall and the unit had a strong musty smell when we first walked in. All of this, we were willing to overlook as we understand some things are unavoidable when itâs directly on the beach. But our breaking point was when we eventually discovered that what we thought may have been an allergic reaction to what the linens were washed in, were actually fleas (we took pictures) and the marks on us were flea bites from the beds. We called management (yes, it was late in the week when called) and they unfortunately seemed to not be too concerned and passed it off as some other kind of bug that bites. I told them we had pictures and that we had also found cat toys under the couch and they advised that it could have been the owners. Nevertheless, it was bugs and that has never been experienced in other units. So unfortunateâŠ.
The condo was very run town. Yellow stained bathtubs. Rusty drains in the kitchen sink. Everything looked like it was from the 1970âs Would not recommend it especially for the price
Our stay was great! The view from the balcony never gets old. Cat 5 had everything we needed, except Kitchen towels, and wash cloths. I just bought some and left them there for the next guest. We would definitely stay here again!!

Great Location Makes Up for Other Shortcomings
We love staying in Fort Morgan because it is never as crowded as it is in Gulf Shores, and you can pay to have a company set-up your beach canopy which can remain on the beach for the whole week. This property comes at a decent price for the location, but it has definitely seen its better days. Clearly there is still some remainder issues from a recent hurricane, which include a strong musty smell in the kitchen cabinets and water damage that is apparent on the drapes. There were some signs of water damage in some other areas of the property. It does appear they recently updated the floors and the upstairs ceilings. From a cleanliness perspective, we know it is hard to get up all the sand from any beach properties, but the cleaning crew could definitely have tried harder before we arrived. We immediately had to Swiffer up a good pile of sand from throughout the property that was present on arrival. From there, the most troublesome part of our stay is that we were unable to change the temperature on the thermostat. We could not tell if this was a remotely controlled thermostat or if it was just broken and unresponsive. An email to the property manager about this was unanswered. Thankfully it was stuck on a colder temperature than desired as opposed to a warmer one and there were a few extra blankets to keep us warm when we were inside. The kitchen was decently equipped, but if you are accustomed to cooking on non-stick, you will want to bring your own. The only decent skillet was a stainless steel one. If you need it to be dark to sleep, don't count on sleeping past 6 am. There are no blackout curtains on the bedroom doors, so it gets very bright in the bedrooms very early. Truly, we cannot complain too much about this, because when you do wake up, the view is incredible from the living room and master bedroom patio/balcony sliding doors. I would say the stairs leading up from the ground level could use some non-skid surfacing. More than once, with wet or flip-flop clad feet, we felt uneasy walking up the stairs. Bottom line, don't expect the Taj Mahal, but you can anticipate a fantastic view and wonderfully convenient location to the beach!
Best location on any beach! Wouldnât change a thing. Will absolutely try to book again! The Townhomes make a great neighborly feel. The beach feels private. The area was perfect, especially during the COVID19 time...
The only issue we had with our stay was the poor condition of the property regarding cleanliness. The floors were terribly dirty , sand was everywhere when we entered the property. They definitely had not been vacuumed.
This property is a disaster. It is old. Disgusting Carpet stains Wouldnât bathe my dogs in the bathtubs. Curtain rods falling down. Ceiling brown with age and peeling. Absolute disappointment will not Stay at this complex again. Have been to fort Morgan 19 yrs. this was the worst.
