Perfect for our needs. It was just one night but couldnât have picked a better place.
It was a pleasure meeting and talking to Don. It is within walking distance to the center of Talkeetna but just enough away from the bustle of this cozy little town. Highly recommend.
Lovely place. I wouldâve loved to stay there a few more days and properly explore Talkeetna. There are some nice trails there you can hike in. The cabins are clean and neat with a gas fired fireplace to keep you warm. Check in and check out was smooth and easy.
Don Devore was one of the original Alaska 59ers who traveled by motorized wagon train to Alaska in 1959 to homestead in the rugged wilderness, five miles north of Talkeetna. Homesteading was tough but rewarding. Don's family learned self-reliance, and survived on the barest of necessities. Families and friends grew close, helping each other in hard times and sharing what they had.
