This waa a great little house. The deck overlooking the water was my favorite spot to hang out. It was so quiet and peaceful. We actually tried to stay again this year but the place was already booked up!
This house was a comfy getaway from the busy city streets of Grand Rapids. The house was clean and comfortable and the hosts were easy to get ahold of if any issues arose (no issues by the way!!)
Very cozy place.no neighbors to bother you so you can relax.great spot on river .just a couple minutes from town great location.seen the best up close and personal fireworks show from baseball stadium right on the back deck .owners were great to communicate with and were really nice would recommend
This house was very cute inside. My husband and I came here with our 8 month old for a few days to relax and so he could fish. Great fishing spot! The renters allowed us in early and were excellent communicators. Everything was extremely clean, except for the floors (thinking they were accidentally missed). The only other con was the portable AC unit took about 8 hours to cool the place down. The renters dropped us off fans, which helped a bit. Weâd definitely go back again, just maybe when itâs a bit cooler outside!
Great place. The only issue is that the water smells like rotten eggs/sulfur. The owner knows and says they will do something about it when you communicate with them, but there are several reviews that note otherwise.
Great location, really nice being on the river and very peaceful. The property aligned perfectly with the listing, no surprises. Iâm looking forward to coming back.
We stayed at the River House for two nights and it was everything we could have asked for and more. The location on the river and views from the deck and river wall in the backyard were awesome. Everything I needed, or needed to know, from the hosts of as provided and communicated quickly.
Would definitely recommend and stay again myself.
My wife and I stayed here with another couple after Beerfest. Itâs a very cozy and cute cabin set right on the Grand River. We enjoyed waking up to a sunrise over the river with ducks swimming by. We even went for a walk down the road to enjoy privacy and good weather. Would definitely recommend this place.
Amazing location with tons of natural light in the house. Feels like your almost on a boat with the water view. Very private with no neighbors on either side. Hosts went above and beyond in response to my initial request. Views of sunrise, moon over the water, fireflies, and fish popping out to catch their lunch, were all enchanting :)Will be coming back!
Location is close to Grand Rapids and easy to drive to downtown. House was remodeled recently and was clean. We spent time sitting by the river relaxing and that was nice. Great communication with home owners-they were very accommodating. Water does have strong sulphur smell in shower but plenty of bottled water available for cooking/drinking. Neighboring house looked sketchy but no issues. Only suggestion is to wash deck, mow grass, and tidy up the outside of the house and yard. Owner let us know about dirt in front which was no big deal. Overall we enjoyed our stay and the fun things to do in the area!
This cottage is so cute and cozy. Itâs the perfect combination of rustic and modern living. The wood accents and cabinets made it feel like we were out in the country. The light fixtures, dimmers, and ceiling fans were very contemporary. The Michigan decor and Grand Rapids media gave it a Pure Michigan flavor that made me proud. The view of the river was spectacular, especially in the morning. My husband enjoyed walking off the deck and dropping his line right in the water. The baseball game was kinda noisy but the view of the fireworks afterwards made it worth while. This is a great, cozy property for relaxing. Thanks Maryann and Shawn. You have a gem.
After many VRBO rentals, this is our first negative review. There were many issues, but here are the top 3:
Old and uncomfortable beds
Too noisy inside (very loud fan blower on furnace) and outside (highway traffic)
Musty odors and sulfur water odors
As we heavily rely on reviews, we did not heed our own advice as we were lured in by that river view and the assumption that it would be quiet. Our usual stays in GR are at hotels. If you take the time to read the negative reviews, the complaints are all the same and spot on:: old and uncomfortable beds; musty odors, sulfur water odor; overpriced; repairs needed; dirty; mice, bugs, and spiders.
The AC is an old window unit that is not able to cool the place at all.
First impression upon arriving is a little scary. The outside is not well maintained- over grown plants, broken trim, dirty siding. The mattresses desperately need replaced, but what really ruined our stay was the fact that the small old ac unit in the kitchen window could not get the house below 78 degrees when it was 80 degrees outside. Luckily the outside temperature dropped through the night, but I was not able to fall asleep until 4 am because of the heat in the house. The listing should not claim that it is air conditioned. I would not have booked if it was honest about the air conditioning. I have stayed in 5 vrbo homes this summer and the others all received 5 star reviews from me. This is my first bad rental experience.
Nice little river house we enjoyed our 4th of July weekend. The only thing was the water smell but we adjusted. Thanks for having us at the river house!
Listing just as depicted in listing. We were in town to watch the Whitecaps play a couple games and the location of the River House was a 15 min walk to stadium. We could hear the loud speakers as we walked out the front door. Enjoyed the peacefulness of the River view. Would stay here again.
Long weekend visiting family, and the location couldn't be better. We enjoyed the river view, and privacy that the location provided. The home was updated with new appliances, decor and bathroom/kitchen cabinetry. They provided drinking water, but the water when showering had a strong sulphur smell which was intense. Overall, I would rent again, and think they have a little piece of paradise!
Wonderful visit! We came to Michigan to visit one of the whitecaps baseball players. Perfect location! Walked to the ballpark, enjoyed the river, caught lots of fish, sat around the fire pit. Everything was perfect. Highly recommend.
Deer, turtles, fish, woodpeckers, ducks, and so much more surrounds this home. The sunrises on the river are absolutely breathtaking. There is a ball park near by and some nights you can even watch fireworks from the porch. The home was clean and so cozy. We loved our time here so much that we extended our stay. The hosts are wonderful honest people that communicate well and are more than happy to help resolve any issues. We would love to come stay again.
I would not recommend this property. The sulphur smelling water made us not want to cook or shower. The bathroom and bedroom doors didn't latch, the bedrooms were small, the yard needed mowed and the porch needed sweep. Not worth the money.
This is a conveniently located property on a quiet river stretch. I would call the accommodations comfortable. It felt like a friend had allowed us to stay in a well-worn family cottage for the weekend. Served our purposes.
View of River was lovely and the home was comfortable and well appointed. Communication with owner was excellent. Only negative is that the lot next door has an abandoned house that is in disrepair, which is an eyesore.
We are a local couple located in the greater Grand Rapids area. We love our city and providing a space for guests to relax in nature while being close to enough to experience all that Grand Rapids has to offer!
We feel the stretch of the river that our house is located on is one of the most beautiful in the city. Each season offers a different spectacular view and it is a very comfortable space to rest and rejuvenate.
