This is a fantastic property and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in the mountains away from busy city life. Gino was a perfect host with just the right amount of support. He was there if we needed help. He even came out to meet us on the drive in to make sure we found the property without a hitch.
Cabin is as stated. It is very deep in the woods. Payson is 40 minutes away. There is a small general store about 3 miles. Unfortunately, we couldn't stay
but a few hours. Our rescue kitten fell from the lift, luckily she wasn't hurt. But it would've been hard to sleep knowing it could happen again. We don't blame Gino, just didn't work out. Don't let this review sway you. If you like seclusion, this is the place.

Gino is an absolute rockstar when it comes with being a host as well as someone to spend time with. It was such a pleasure to get away and unplug from the daily grind of the city. The cabin is clean, quaint, beautifully tucked away in the pines which truly makes you feel connected to the environment. Thank you for everything Gino, my wife and are canât wait to come and stay again.
Our second time back and itâs still the perfect place to get away. The cabin is cozy and welcoming and located in such a beautiful place. Gino was very helpful if anything was needed.
This cabin was perfect for our girls getaway. We wanted some thing off the beaten path to relax and unwind, and this fit the bill Gino is a wonderful host. Very communicative always responding within 24 hours or less. The house was exactly as it was described. The directions were clear and we had no issues. We saw elk in the backyard across the fence. Air conditioning was perfect and overall we had a wonderful time and I would definitely come back, it is a rustic lodging and is secluded. Which is what we wanted and why we chose this place. It was easy enough to get into Payson. We also went to Willow Lake and had no issues.
If you're looking to escape, want to get away from it all, this is the place. Backing up to just the forest, the elk put on a wonderful show early in the morning. Hike right from the gate. There's a spring that flows behind the property that wildlife come to visit. During the night the forest sounds will serenade you to sleep. It was absolutely the best!
Gino was the perfect host, a very kind-hearted man. He checked in daily to make sure all was well. The cabin took me back to my childhood with the vintage/cabin/western look; very similar to the cabin my parents built when I was young back in MI. Bed linens, throws, guilts and towels were top notch. Gino recently put in AC so we were very comfortable despite the unusual high temps.
Even our Lab, Annabelle, had the best time playing with Nigel, Gino's Irish Wolfhound, hiking with us and looking for wildlife. We already miss it and we'll be back again soon!
Gino was exceedingly friendly and gave us tips on the best times to see elk as well as other great destinations across Arizona. Would love to stay here again!
Our weekend get away was great! The little cabin was perfect! Beautiful back yard with a flowing creek. National forest behind the cabin for endless hiking. We brought our 2 dogs and they got along great with The owners dog, Nigel.
Cute little restaurant/bar down the road.
We would defiantly stay here again.
Quaint cabin with full accommodations. Host was excellent and very helpful. Fully recommend this property to anyone wanting a secluded and serene environment to visit.
What a relaxing weekend we had! Gino is a great host and made us feel very welcome! Our 3 dogs got along well with Nigel, Gino's dog/small horse. We had plenty to do and see right outside the cabin, and it's a short drive to Woods Canyon Lake. Gino kept us stocked with wood for the fireplace. We enjoyed looking through and watching old movies. Thank you Gino! This was exactly what we wanted/needed for us all to reconnect.
I live next to the cabin in a log home I built in 1986. I also own the old log ranch house on the property that dates back to 1898, which I am renovating.
I bought my land in 1984 with the intent of building a vacation home. Having grown up in Tempe, my family would often come up to the Rim area for fun. After completion of my home I seemed to spend more time here and less in Tempe. In 1993 I moved here full time.
Privacy. Solitude. Wildlife. Excellent hiking and horseback riding. The views from almost any where on the property are incredible. The spring behind the cabin attracts all sorts of wildlife
