À propos de cet hébergement

Superbe vue sur le port sur le quai! - The Boathouse Au Corea Harbor!

Ceci est une propriété merveilleusement unique dans le village de pêche ultra pittoresque de Corea, Maine.

Notre famille a acheté The Boathouse en 1970.

Boathouse fun

This was the 2nd time we’ve stayed in the boathouse. And it was just as great as the first time! Accommodations were very good and the scenery out the windows was interesting & varied …..with the lobstermen coming and going each day. Also, the Wharf next door was an excellent eating place on the pier!

Beautiful harbor view

We loved the boat house. It has everything you need and the location gave us an up close look at a real working lobster fishing village. We met locals who were very anxious to talk about their village and offer suggestions for activities. We enjoyed just sitting on the deck watching the boats in the harbor and walking to the beach by the bay. Katherine, our host was so nice and available to answer any questions. We would definitely visit again.

Lovely village, great walks. Rental a bit rustic but charming. Great views. There should be a welcoming packet with directions for trash removal, where to leave thermostat settings and who to contact if you get accidentally locked out.

Great place especially if spending days hiking

It was a good place for us since we were spending our days out in nature. Though it was an hour drive to acadia National park we could easily do it. No frills but we wanted to on the water, that was why we wanted it. The property manager was very nice and helpful.

A Slice of Heaven

I've lived in Maine my whole life and have never experienced a place quite like the Boathouse in Corea. It was the quintessential coastal Maine experience. The house was lovely and quirky and comfortable. The working harbor and surrounding town was enchanting. We met many locals and truly felt as though we could move right in and enjoy life. Kathy, the owner, was a dear and included so many nice touches-from a welcome gift to suggested outings and eateries. Everything was idyllic. We were so sad to leave and even have spoken about returning in winter, or when we retire and can stay on forever! Thanks, Kathy. Corea is truly a gem!

We Loved It

Our family of five stayed here in late July of 2010 and absolutely loved it. It is a great little house with lots of New England charm. It is exactly as described in the listing. It only has one bedroom with an attached bath but it slept our family of five comfortably. Two double futons, a single futon and a pull out sleeper sofa are included in the house. The most valuable asset of this house is the view. If you pick up a guide book of Maine that has a picture of a harbor, lobster boats, wharves and lobster traps it is likely a picture of Corea. Corea is a sleepy little village. Bar Harbor it is not. There is only one store, an antique store, and it is only open two or three days a week. If you are a light sleeper you may wake up to the sound of lobster boats pulling out in the morning. It never bothered us though and I was actually disappointed when I slept through the boats pulling out in the morning. There is a nice beach within walking distance. The boathouse itself is two stories and is quite charming. It includes tongue and groove knotty pine wood throughout. Part of the character of this house is that it is old. The floors aren't perfectly level and a couple of the doors are on the low side. There is no air conditioning but with the provided fans we were never uncomfortable during the day. The nights get cool on the coast but plenty of comforters were provided and we never even thought about turning on the baseboard heat. The kitchen is well stocked with everything we ever needed. The kitchen is on the second floor so this could be a problem for the severely disabled. My wife is recovering from knee surgery so she tried to minimize the number of trips up and down the stairs but it never presented a real problem for her. There aren't that many stairs since the downstairs ceiling is somewhat low. The view out of the kitchen is amazing. The window over the sink looks out over the wharves. The other kitchen window looks out over the harbor. There are several other windows upstairs as well allowing for nice views from the dining room table. The house literally sits on a wharf. This means at high tide the water actually comes in under the house. At low tide the wharf sits pretty high above the ground - probably 15 feet or so. The back of the house includes a fenced off section of wharf for sitting and enjoying the view. Overall we would not hesitate to stay again. Kathy, the owner, was also very helpful and made sure we had everything we needed.

Unique in every way

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Boathouse. It was equipped with everything we needed and offered magnificent views of the harbor. Our daughter and her family visited overnight from Wells, and the waterfront deck was a perfect play area for our young grandson. All of us took the Winter Harbor ferry to Bar Harbor, spotting an eagle, seals and lighthouses. The captain even let our 2 yr. old grandson skipper the boat! Made his day! Schoodic Point and the park were incredibly beautiful and, unlike Mt. Desert Island, there were no crowds or parking problems. Lobster from the co-op and lunch at the Pickled Wrinkle were exceptional. We would love to return next fall.

Lobster boats in Bay

Location X 3

If you enjoy simple living, you have just found a little corner of paradise in Northern New England/Down East Maine. This is a spot where beauty abounds: a converted boathouse on a picturesque working fishing harbor with barrier islands beyond...The opportunities to enjoy nature in this area are boundless, so you will be busy, as we were taking advantage of all that was available. Now, if you are someone who needs all the amenities of modern living (cable TV, high-speed internet...it's there, just spotty, lots of gadgets and appliances) this place is not for you, pay more for someplace much less idyllic. Two tips for the wise:bring ear plugs - the harbor gets active at 3 am some mornings and it's noisy. Second, buy lobster at the co-op, and get the shedders. You will be happy, like us!

Gorgeous location and views

We love Corea and the Boathouse is perched on a wharf right on the harbor. Lobster boats right out front, Lunch on the Wharf right nearby and tons of nature things to do all within easy reach. The house is nicely appointed and convenient to Schoodic Point national park, hiking trails, bird watching and much more. It is a two story house and there are stairs.

A perch on Corea Harbor.. Stunning views

The cottage was very clean and had great views from most windows. One is able to sit on the back decking area to watch the busy working harbor. I recommend bringing collapsible chairs with umbrella shades attached. This will allow you to enjoy the view longer on a very sunny day .We love to bike and enjoyed going out to Cranberry Point and around the harbor. One can also take the ferry from WH to BH. Enjoyed the very quaint Lobster Pound lunch next door. Only open during lunch. The Lobster boats.leave early in the AM but did not bother us. We will come back. Corea is quintessential Maine.

not a real house boat

This was not a real house boat ,but was attached to a wharf .Disappointed with the dirty rugs, dust webs on the window sills, only one set of sheets, and 3 face clothes were available to us. Very noisy at 4am with the lobstermen.Yes we knew this was on a working dock but just did not expect the stacking of lobster pots to start at 4am till 8am.This bothered my husband the most being on vacation, no curtains for back door so it made it very hot during day and the lock did not work and was falling out.The trash was not picked up and the animals made a mess. The view was beautiful and it was very quite at night .

Unique spot in lovely village

Charming and somewhat challenging cottage with fantastic views. Affable neighbor, Joe at the gallery and lobster shack, was a fount of local information and also served great food. Carol was gracious when we showed up a little early. Shades were difficult to open and a light over the dining room table would be great.

Karen B.,

Beautiful, clean, comfortable, spacious, well-appointed home on the harbor!

From the moment we arrived until we had to say "so long" I fell in love with this boathouse and with the village of Corea. This was a totally new experience and one which we will never forget ... and hope to repeat again some day. The home is literally right on the wharf with gorgeous views of the harbor. It was exciting to watch the lobster fishermen/women as they went about their daily work. The first time I was awakened by the sound of a lobster boat leaving harbor was Monday at 3:00am (they don't go out on Sundays), followed by many others going out to sea for their day's catch. Some left as late as 6am. I was spellbound as I watched. Around 11:30am the lobster boats return, drop off their catch at the Co-Op, tie up at their mooring and paddle their skiff to shore, usually standing up! By the next day I barely heard the boats leave. I got used to the sound. We bought a book, "Finest Kind: The Lobstermen of Corea, Portrait of a Down East Fishing Village" (2011) at the nearby Chapter Two gallery and gift shop. Excellent reading. The deck offers awesome views of the harbor and the tides as they go out and come in. We sat out with our morning coffee and breakfast, and again in the evening. We did need the mosquito repellent. The Corea Lunch on the Wharf, open 11am-5pm, has a nice variety of foods. This is two doors over. Everything was tasty. There are other restaurants nearby in Birch Harbor, Prospect Harbor and Winter Harbor. Note: there is a nice stove if you wish to cook. We drove to Schoodic Peninsula and Schoodic Point (it's open ocean from there). Some of the most amazing, beautiful, pristine scenery you will ever see. By 5pm in Corea, there are no sounds except the birds and the occasional vehicle. It is eerily quiet from 5pm on. I found it to be completely serene and peaceful ... very good for one's soul. We did not miss television at all. We enjoyed reading, playing games, sketching and relaxing. There are many opportunities nearby if you like to bike, hike, or enjoy being out on the water. We saw two bald eagles. We had to go to the Dorcas Library about 3 miles away to get Internet service. We barely missed not having Internet at the boathouse. Really just used it to post our photos on Facebook! This was truly a fantastic week. I started missing it as soon as we drove away! Kathy, the property manager, is very nice, attentive and a pleasure to work with. If you wish to unplug for a week (or more), this is the place to be!

Excellent base for exploring Schoodic portion of Acadia

The Corea boat house is the best place we have stayed through VRBO for the value. The house literally sits on the water (on a wharf) overlooking a beautiful working harbor. There is much of interest to see just relaxing in the second level dining room or on the enclosed portion of the wharf deck. The house is comfortable and fully equipped for your stay. Just bring all food items, including your own cooking oils, coffee, tea, sugar, etc. and your clothes and you are set! If you are an adventurer, bring a bicycle, kayak/canoe (we regret not bringing ours as there is a great place to launch from the house) and hiking boots. We hiked the nearby Schoodic portion of Acadia, and were able to ride our bikes comfortably from the house to Winter Harbor for breakfast, then rode the Schoodic Loop (one way ride on the loop with very few cars and absolutely stunning views) and returned by bike for a 27 mile total trip. We also road the ferry from Winter Harbor to Bar Harbor with our dogs - the best way to enjoy the busy July 4 parade. Returned to Bar Harbor on another day with our bikes (bikes ride for free on the ferry, or you can drive over) to ride the main park loop (also one way with stunning views, but LOTS of cars), ate popovers at Jordan's Pond House, and rode several of the carriage trails. Within walking distance from the house is a "secret" path to a beach from which you can walk to an island during low tide. This would be a blast for kids!! Needless to say, we had to fuel our adventures with great food! The lobster grilled cheese on the wharf within view of the house is the best! We also loved the lobster pot, and steamed lobster we purchased from the co-op across the harbor. Happy hour on the wharf deck was magnificent, and of course the ice cream in Maine is outstanding. The wharf sells Giffords, but "Me and Bens" in Birch Harbor was our favorite. This area and house are not luxurious, but there is a ton of character and beauty that the adventurous traveler will appreciate.

Qui vous reçoit ?

Vous êtes reçu par Katherine Christ-Janer

Image de profil de l’hôte
My name is Katherine Christ-Janer. I am the owner and manager of The Boathouse at Corea Harbor. Our family has owned The Boathouse and also the house across the street since the early 1970’s. My sister presently owns the house across the street as now both our parents have passed, so it is now our privilege to continue on.

Our family lived in New Canaan, Connecticut where my father Victor had a successful architectural firm during the hay-day of the mid-century modernist movement. My mother Beth was a homemaker and together they raised us kids. We were so fortunate to have many, many sweet summers in Corea.

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

In 1970, my father was touring with the Danforth Foundation, giving a series of lectures on architecture in colleges and universities all around the United States. Were it not for a lecture at Colby College in Waterville, Maine in the deep freeze of winter we might not have found Corea. My parents had been considering a summer home for a little while and despite the bitter cold temperatures in the area, my father set out on a mission. He decided to travel the coastline above Bar Harbor to the north. His first stop was the the Schoodic Peninsula. He arrived into Corea met a couple of artist painting from the back of their van. As my father explained what he was doing, the artists told my father that they had just made the drive from the north heading south, painting as they went and that he needn't bother going any further - that there was nothing more beautiful than Corea. This is how we ended up in Corea!

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?

The most unique aspect of the Boathouse is the fact that the house sits directly on a working wharf dead center in the middle of town. Being in the Boathouse feels a bit like being in a boat. You can actually hear the water lapping the rocky shore and underpinnings of the wharf from inside the house. There are lobster traps on the wharf, as our friend Randy fishes from this wharf. You will see him and his boat come and go. The house isn't 'fussy' it is rustic and casual and has some interesting touches. For instance, when finishing the bathroom downstairs, my father retained an interior weathered shingled wall on which fisherman had carved their initials over the years. The enclosed wharf deck allows guest to sit as close to the water as the boats and gives one of the most coveted views of the harbor on the shore.
