Cabine Glamping Off Grid Anasazi Wilderness

As always, Gallina Canyon Rentals is a balm for the world-weary soul

This is my third stay. Twice was in the homey casita, and this time it was "glamping" at the Anasazi. I can convey enough gratitude for sleeping in utter and complete silence and darkness. What a gift. This experience is not for the faint of hear though: if you are someone who cannot sleep without noise, noise machines, and your earbuds in, this is not for you. You are also completely off-grid: no phone, not internet.... HEAVEN! And as always, Elizabeth and Andrew are wonderful hosts. Bless them for their stewardship of this magical place! I can't wait to return next season!

Outstanding experience and spectacular views!

We came across this place by searching Google Maps for accommodation in the Chama area, as a way of breaking our trip and reducing our driving. What we found instead was the highlight of our trip: a truly amazing remote wilderness experience, surrounded by the spectacular canyon landscapes that inspired artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe. Despite being totally off the grid - no electricity supply other than solar power, no water supply other than natural spring water - this campsite has been designed for comfort. There are hot showers, a refrigerator, a full kitchen and patio (all outdoors!), integrated with an immaculately clean camper. Other than the hosts more than 1 mile away, we were the only humans in the canyon. Elizabeth, Andrew, and David were helpful, accommodating, and open. We spent 2 nights here, and regretted that our stay was so short.

It was Heaven

Hello there Elizabeth, Andrew and David: Thanks to you all… we had a marvelous anniversary visit to your most special canyon. We are grateful that you share your place with outsiders. On the day when we crossed all 13 creek crossings, I felt as if we were entering into a scared place and just could not drink it in deeply enough. It was heaven, and we hope to return again to drink it in some more. Special happenings: part way up the arroyo just about 1/10 mi. before Anasazi cabin, I was skulking about when part of the cliff face fell off!!! Whew! I was very happy that I was NOT under it, and thrilled at the sound of the rocks falling, rolling, and the dust settling. Lots of deer, one small bull snake (maybe) and a hawk showing off for us as we drove out of the Chama canyon. And the sego lilies…I’ve never seen so many in so many places. Thanks again, it was all perfect, and Magic has recovered quite well too. Best wishes, Charly, Sam and Magic

Rained Out

Unfortunately , we were not able to stay at the ranch because the rains had washed out the road. Elizabeth communicated very well and we understood the crisis she was experiencing.

Exceeded all expectations!

What a great experience! We had an excellent visit at the Glamping Cabin. We had some hesitations prior to booking this stay and weren't too sure what to expect. However, all hesitations and concerns were quickly dispelled upon arriving - the property greatly exceeded our expectations. The fun begins as soon as you turn off the highway and start the roughly 16 mile journey over dirt roads to the cabin. David, who was super friendly, met us at the gate, led us to the cabin, walked us through the details of the cabin, and answered any and all questions we had before leaving us to enjoy our stay. The cabin was amazing - well built, well thought out, well kept, well stocked, and extremely clean...everything you need, aside from food, is there. Our girls (7, 4, and 2) enjoyed running around the cabin playing in the dirt (pretend cooking) with the toys provided. We took a hike down to the river behind the cabin a ways, which was dry, to let the girls play in the sand and look at the different rocks. Each morning we were visited by a rabbit and a hummingbird. David also stopped by the first morning to bring us fresh lettuce and eggs. The beds in the cabin/trailer were extremely comfortable and fitted with nice sheets/comforters - I preferred these beds over the beds at the Hampton Inns we stayed in on other nights during our trip. We were able to watch and listen to distant thunderstorms move across the area. When a few stray sprinkles/rains passed by we took advantage of the provided cards to play uno as a family and teach our oldest how to play solitaire. Aside from David visiting on the first morning to bring the fresh lettuce and eggs, we didn't see or hear another person the entire time we were there - not even a vehicle in the distance... which was an incredibly refreshing experience. We definitely intend to visit again.

Most relaxing getaway ever!!!!

The glamping site was incredibly comfortable with all of the amenities you could possibly need. I have to say that I have never been on a more relaxing vacation. I gave myself permission to take long afternoon naps. If I had had full internet and cell service, I would have felt like I needed to check it every few minutes. I really can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this place. The hikes were amazing. The night sky - incredible. The feeling of being the only people on earth. Just WOW!!!!!

One of the most remarkable, scenic places that I have ever visited

Beautiful scenic setting in a red rock walled canyon, things to explore in a number of directions. The lodging situation was even better than I had surmised from the web. The campers are modern and the beds are new and comfortable; the cooking facilities are very handy; cooking gear, utensils, etc. are all there; the outhouse has a view and is well ventilated. And a shower at the end of a hard day hiking is so very welcome. It's not really a cabin, it's not really camping - it's glamping! If I could give 6 stars I would. All in a wilderness that looks more like the canyon country of Utah than what I expect in New Mexico. Well worth a visit!

Peaceful Canyon

This was our second year to visit the Anasazi Wilderness Cabin, and this visit was even more delightful than our first. The cabin is in a setting that cannot be duplicated, in one of those stunningly beautiful New Mexico canyons where the picture changes all day long with the movement of the sun. It is miles away from the highway with nothing to disturb the peace and quiet of nature. We love to photograph, walk, paint, read, and just enjoy listening to the birds and the breeze through the forest. Depending on the weather, you may hear the Gallina River rolling along nearby or even see an arroyo which opens onto the cliff across the river suddenly start to gush water as it drains its collected rainfall. In the evenings, as the canyon darkens, the bats swoop in to feed; their completely silent airborne acrobatics are amazing to watch. The actual "cabin" is so well-designed that it functions as well as a home. Sleeping is cozy and comfortable, the outdoor shower--with hot water--is fantastic, and the outhouse has the world's best view. The kitchen is well equipped and, in season, lovingly furnished with delicious home-grown veggies and eggs with the most beautiful yellow yolks you will ever see. The owners/staff are always friendly and helpful, as well as full of information about the area. We leave the canyon planning when we will be able to get back to visit again.

Quiet Serenity

Our stay at the campsite really couldn't have been better. The spot that was chosen and the New Mexico landscape was breathtaking! I have lived in Colorado for 35 plus years and can highly recommend this spot! We never met Elizabeth, but her husband (great guy but forget his name!!!) was extremely accommodating and provided us with a rich history of their wonderful property. We brought 2 dogs which loved the area to explore. Just be a little careful with some common encounters with some local critters. My Girlfriend saw 4 Elk on her hike and we never felt threatened by any other wildlife. If you want a remote getaway with solar powered lights and shower, fresh and drinkable spring water, and the most beautiful nights you may ever see, visit this canyon!

What are you waiting for...

As busy restaurant owners, my wife and I needed a true retreat from long hours and a very public lifestyle. We found one here! This property stands alone in the region and perhaps the state. Elizabeth and Andrew couldn't have been greater hosts. They provided delicious produce and eggs from their garden (heirloom tomatoes had just come in). As for the beauty and the solitude, I will sum it all up by saying that our stay both at the ranch casita and the glamping site, as well as hiking their pristine land, revitalized both our energy for our business and AND our relationship! Cheers to Elizabeth and Andrew

The shark tank was a welcomed relief in the afternoon it was so lovely to cool off in fresh spring water. We hope to visit again!!

We celebrated our 47th anniversary in paradise

Dear Elizabeth, Andrew and David, We loved our time spent at the Ranch, "Glamping" on our 47th Anniversary. The solitude was perfect and the natural abundance of birds, wildflowers, rocks and natural wildlife made us appreciate Mother Nature in all her best features. The Gallina Canyon cliffs became our front yard and back yard and as a special treat for our anniversary there was the double rainbow to go with our anniversary cheese cake topped with a drizzle of pine trees. What a wonderful experience for us 70 yr. olds. We didn't even have to be doing anything special and even enjoyed the rain. Thank You.

Kachina's Chanting in the Moonlight

Anasazi Ruin We arrived back at Gallina Canyon Ranch in early August after camping and hiking around the Ghost Ranch which was great … beautiful cliffs and mesas. As we negotiated our way up the road to the ranch we came upon another visitor who was sidelined by the recent major rains – Palulukung dancing – and we stopped to see if we could assist. We told him we would send help from the ranch and when we got there Andrew took off to retrieve them in the 4X4. Elizabeth greeted us all like long lost family and showed everyone around the main ranch house. We loved seeing the little chuck wagon (which we actually stayed in once), the orno, and the hummingbirds especially. We had all been to the ranch before but it has been a while. When Andrew retrieved the stranded visitors the family all piled in for the trip up to Remote Casita and I headed up to Anasazi. They told me it was even tougher going up to Remote Casita than when I went up a week before but I found the new Anasazi camp to be a really sweet deal. It’s like luxury camping with a fantastic outdoor kitchen, dining area and chairs for relaxing at night. The sleeping arrangements are in a small pop up trailer and the two beds are ample and warm. When the family returned to Anasazi we made dinner with the fresh vegetables from the Gallina Ranch garden (the best ever) and spent the night watching shooting stars under an almost full moon. If you listen carefully you can hear the Kachinas singing a chant. The next day we hiked and then cooled off in the spring fed Shark Tank pool. I mean what a deal this Anasazi is, its awesome and worth twice the price!

Beautiful!

Spectacular views greeted us as we drove into the canyon. The colors in the rocks and the greenery were awesome and a welcome escape from the city in the summer. The campsite was impressive with so many conveniences (even more than advertised) for those of us who are not hard-core campers. The shark tank and pond were fun refreshing activities with the kids and we enjoyed the lovely natural landscaping. Easy hikes offered chances to experience the natural beauty of the canyon and the Rio Gallina. More challenging hikes are also available to reward the more adventurous. Our stay coincided with the monsoon season which brought refreshing wind and rain in the evenings. A four-wheel drive vehicle would have been helpful but our hosts helped us though the areas that were difficult to pass due to the rains. That brings us to the best features of all... Our hosts. Andrew, Elizabeth and David made this the best camping trip we've ever been on. They were so helpful and friendly. They provided great information about the area and quick responses to the challenges we experienced due to the heavy rains. We would not have gotten better service in a five-star luxury resort. It was a privilege to get to know them. We were already planning our next trip back there as we drove out at the end of our stay.

The Anasazi ruins were worth the climb

Got home just now: had a great vacation. We LOVE the remoteness of your canyon. It is the perfect place to camp with children: outside but convenient kitchen, bath, beds so not so hard on us moms! We had a great time and really enjoyed ourselves. The refrigeration was no problem, and David brought us some extra ice and the nights were so cool. The Anasazi ruin towers were amazing, it was so fun to be able to see the fruit of all our research. We are hoping to go the La Jarra region next and see if there are more there. It was so interesting to walk around the homes of these mysterious people. We took many pictures although they will never be as cool as the real thing and the canyon is so beautiful. The kids really wanted to come up and play more in the pond, but living in Acapulco they get cold so easily and it rained so we just hiked about and played in the creek. Thank you so much again, we really enjoyed ourselves!

Most peaceful camping in Northern New Mexico!

We just returned home from our three night stay at Anasazi. The trip was relaxing family fun with everything we could have asked for at the tip of our fingers! We had four toddlers running around, loving the pond toys, the outdoor living room during the rain and floating with mom in the Shark Tank! Even a simple walk up the way to the rain run off was a HUGE adventure of FUN! Night time potty trips were an activity of pure amazemepnt with the density of stars! Plan on staying a few nights to really settle in, take lots of food (the care package of eggs and veggies from Andrew and Kim were a treat!) and leave the electronics behind! Even though we had wifi and a personal wifi calling capable phone - we didn't need to turn them on, not even during an afternoon of non stop rain. It was a nice balance of "glamping" and getting "mud on the tires" kind of fun!

We love the place!

After a year and a half my family was due a nice relaxing vacation, and that is exactly what we found when we stayed at Gallina Canyon Ranch. This was the first camping trip we have made that we did not have to worry about lugging out the tent and accessories. It was refreshing to only have to worry about the meals we would need for the week. We loved the fresh eggs and we used the fresh lettuce for salad, sandwhiches and burgers. My husband enjoyed hiking and our children loved the swimming pond. The views from the campsite are amazing. A short drive down the road and you find the Chama River. After a long day of play the outdoor shower just hits the spot. Our family had a relaxing and refreshing trip. We fell in love and can not wait to visit again!

if you like remote, this is perfect

We stayed at the remote casita in august- with our two dogs. It was the best place I've ever stayed in my life. It is 4 miles from the remote Gallina ranch. You usually get there by the owners' pickup, but it had rained heavily and we had to go in by horse. No electricity, no cell phone reception. You don't see anyone until they come back to collect you. It is a one-room cabin, with a queen-sized bed and a twin daybed on the porch. (We had our 12-year-old daughter with us. This really is a 2-person place, and we discussed this with the owners. We were willing to use the daybed--it is chilly at night, but the stars are amazing.) There is a gas stovetop inside and a gas grill outside, gas fridge, kerosene lamp, solar bag shower, outhouse. (The other review here for the ranch casita is less rustic, I think, and at the ranch. I didn't see it, but I'm sure it is nice. There is also a popup trailer site.) The little casita is so lovely. The road to the ranch is rough--they can pick you up at the river if you want (it was tricky after rain in a Prius, but we made it). It is in a beautiful canyon, with amazing views and hikes all around. We swam in the river and climbed into little caves. Andrew, Elizabeth and David were wonderful hosts. Beautiful. Remote. Simple. Really, if you like remote, this is perfect.

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

We chose this ranch because the beauty and the seclusion of this canyon is unique; it is like having our own mini Grand Canyon--- the same Northern New Mexico beauty that awed and inspired the artist Georgia O'Keeffe.

Family Camp includes for your summer enjoyment a 1,000 gallon soaking pool that is continuously fed from a fresh water spring, and includes a table and chairs for use inside the pool. The overflow from the tank attracts a many species of birds, which makes the pool area a bird watcher's dream. The pool is nestled inside an earthen and rock 1900s homestead open-air water storage tank. Mosquitoes are not a problem in Gallina Canyon. With a spectacular view during the day and awe-inspiring panorama of stars at night, the pool area is a great place to enjoy the sights and sound of the canyon. Bring a star map and toast marshmallows we provide over the propane fire pit bowl, then lay back in the provided 'gravity chairs' and watch for meteors streaking across the velvet black sky.

The cabin is the perfect wilderness experience for two families to camp together , corporate get-together, and group camping: please email if you are looking for a group camp site.
