Quality antiques directly imported from London's Chelsea and Paris by the owners of The County Estates combine with contemporary and historical artworks. Not stuffy or formal, It’s an easy going comfortable space and suits the laid-back way of life in The County, with a distinguished flair much appreciated by discerning visitors.

‘GATE HOUSE at The Lake’ is just one of our 2 own individually-styled properties operated by The County Estates, and managed by their experienced teams, who have received over 475 positive 5-star guest reviews from online bookings. AirBnb Superhosts since 2011. The properties are located on adjoining gardens of at least one acre each, within the original Loyalist Settlers’ Estate of the Pettit family, who settled the area in 1799. The whole 4-acre estate includes a games and sports field, boardwalk, docks and pedal boat is shared only our 2nd house called Shore Lodge. The Estate includes the charming, separately-fenced garden which is the final resting place of members of the original family owners of the property.






Guests have access to the whole house. (with the exception of the basement. A completely separate cottage is attached at one side of the house, but accessed via its own lane and used by the manager).

The garden has a massive decorative 12 ft fence for privacy from the manager’s cottage.

GATE HOUSE is directly adjacent our own central recreation and games field, on the shore of West Lake, the internationally known wetland of scientific importance protected by the government for rare and endangered species, notably the Blandings Turtle.

Our naturalist paradise is not accessible by the public but is strictly limited to registered guests of The County Estates.

Please note access to the shore of West Lake, our Boardwalk and floating docks is directly across our own private Games Recreation Field. Use of our very large waterfront recreation space is shared between our two properties SHORE LODGE and GATE HOUSE.


We wish to thank the local Conservation Specialists and The Prince Edward County Municipal support with helping with their guidance and active encouragement in bringing our water access dream to reality for guests, families and friends.

You enjoy unrivalled and uninterrupted views over the lake with our own floating docks in our own calm water coves and bays, perfect for naturalists, bird watchers and nature lovers.

The natural shore front and water edge is untamed and wild, perfect for both quiet times, and family fun. As our bay, called ‘Swan Cove’ is at least 5ft in all places (with no gradual walk in or gentle slope), and the home of numerous swan families which are content with boats and recreation toys, but swimming is NOT recommended.

If you are interested in swimming, please ask for our recommendations. The famous swimming beaches are just a few minutes drive down the road; see ‘Dunes Beach’ (4 mins drive) and ‘Outlet Beach’ (8 mins drive).

PLEASE NOTE: If you intend to bring your motor / sail boat, PWC or sports equipment and use our docks, prior written agreement is required to ensure space, capacity and compatibility with other vessels. Once space is confirmed we will provide instructions to how to conveniently launch your craft and toys. Boat trailers can be conveniently parked at whichever of our houses you have rented.

For more active enjoyment of the spaces, guests of all ages have use of our OWN private Games Field at the centre lawned area between our 2 adjoining houses in our own private compound for sport or playing around with the balls (soccer, football, volleyball) and games (frisbee, badminton) we provide free of charge.

Our management/servicing crew live nearby and are available by email, text and phone, before, on the day of your arrival, and throughout your stay. If you need them to stop by the house for any reason, they are happy to do so; otherwise, after you have checked-in, you will be left in peace to enjoy the house on your own!

‘GATE HOUSE’ is ideally located in the sought-after area of West Lake, just a 4-minute drive from Dunes Beach at Sandbanks Provincial Park and 10 minutes from Outlet Beach. However, The County is so compact that nothing is very far away (Picton only 10 minutes, Wellington 12 minutes and Bloomfield 5 minutes), and we are always happy to help with directions and suggestions.

We are just 4 minutes from Sandbanks Provincial Park (just down the road!), 15 minutes from the wineries, 10 minutes from Picton or Wellington, and 5 minutes from Bloomfield. It's a good central location to most things in Prince Edward County - and most importantly for families, its Sandbanks, and its 3 beaches.

The County has little public transportation. So guests rely on having their own cars / transport, and our driveways have plenty of parking, even for boat trailers and RV’s. There is a public boat launch just 500 m down the road.

For a more leisure way to travel, bikes can be easily rented just 7 minutes drive away.

Interested in boating? West Lake is a moment away, and water sports including pontoon boats can be rented. As far as travel is concerned, the wonderful thing about Prince Edward County is that its size means everything is almost on your doorstep. But you will need a vehicle as there is very little public transportation. Why not hire a bicycle (rental facility just 7 minutes away) and explore The County whilst getting some exercise!

It will also ensure we comply with licensing byelaws.

All STAs in Prince Edward County must be licensed. We have been inspected by PEC STA Licensing Officers and been granted a licence to operate. This protects both us and our guests and certifies we are good-neighbour hosts and our homes have enhanced fire protection.

CAPACITY

This by-law strictly controls the numbers allowed in each property which ensures the safety and comfort of all our guests. A maximum of 2 adults is allowed in each bedroom, which means up to 10 adults + a number of children are permitted at ‘GATE HOUSE’.

PUBLIC HEALTH

The comfort and safety of our guests is of paramount importance to us. We therefore comply with, and exceed, all the Government and AirBnb regulations and guidelines relating to CV-compliant products and processes designed to protect our guests, as well as our team and our community.

We want you to be confident that we have done all we can to protect you in our homes, so please let us know if you would like a copy of our cleaning and sanitisation protocols.

PARTIES and CELEBRATIONS

We love a good time as much as anybody, but as a result of unsocial behaviours and property damage in the past, we cannot allow any bachelorette, hen or stag parties or similar under any circumstances.

We can only allow the number of guests licensed under the Prince Edward County by-law, so do not plan on sleeping anywhere other than in a bed provided by us (NO air mattresses), unless by prior arrangement.

Failure to disclose such use, or any deviation from these regulations will immediately void and terminate the reservation. Remember, our three properties are located adjacent to each other with a manager living in a cottage in the grounds to provide any help required 24 / 7

Great location and awesome home!

Great place located very close to Sandbanks provincial park and wineries. Home is well stocked and comfortable. Awesome outdoor space with lots of patio furniture and a gas fireplace. Enjoyed the hot tub and everything else this beautiful home had to offer. Host was very personable and accommodating. Would definitely stay here again!

Great vacation at this beautiful place

We spent 4 days here and absolutely loved it. The location is great, just a quick drive to Sandbanks, which made it super easy to spend full days at the beach. After all the sun and swimming, coming back to the hot tub was the perfect way to chill and relax.The place itself was beautiful and had everything we needed. Quiet, cozy, and surrounded by nature. There’s a lovely view of the lake nearby, which made for some really peaceful mornings and evenings.Would definitely come back. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a fun, relaxing beach escape!

Beautiful home and grounds and well-stocked kitchen

We had a great time at the County Estates. Agustin was really helpful and responsive. The kitchen is really well-stocked, though you might like to bring some Tupperware or food wrap if you think you’ll need it. Beds were comfy, the backyard has tons of seating, and the sunsets off the dock were beautiful. It was really clean. There’s a convenience store with ice cream and firewood a few doors down. I wasn’t sure if you could swim off the dock and I would say that’s a no, but the beach is very close by and Sandbanks is a short drive away. Thank you for a wonderful stay! My friends and I will be back!

Belle maison rustique

TrĂšs belle maison de type rustique TrĂšs bien Ă©quipĂ© avec une cuisine moderne, tres grand terrain (5 min de marche ppur se rendre au quai). Les lits sont confortables. Les 2 Raisons qui m'empĂȘche de mettre un 5 Ă©toile est la tempĂ©rature intĂ©rieure...froid au rez-de-chaussĂ©e et chaud a l'Ă©tage des chambres et la pression d'eau dans les salles de bain surtout pour les douches...l'hĂŽte est parfait pour la communication et attentif a nos besoins

Cute, comfortable cottage on West Lake

We had a great weekend! House is so cute and very clean. Definitely enough space for 7-8 people and the bedrooms were perfect for our group! The hot tub was awesome and the backyard was spacious with multiple fireplaces. Kitchen was very easy to use as well. It was an easy check-in process and Agustin walked us through all the amenities to ensure we would have a good stay! Would definitely book again!
