We enjoyed our stay at Helen's property in late July. Her home had everything we needed---comfy beds, a beautiful deck with plenty of lounging options overlooking the bay, high speed Wi-Fi, lots of space for our pup and us to spread out and relax, well-appointed kitchen and bathroom. The a/c throughout was a bonus and so appreciated in the hot muggy weather. It was the perfect place for a much needed getaway.
The house was clean, comfortable, and exactly as pictured. The property is right on the water with a small private dock and an amazing view. The host was responsive in a timely manner to all questions, prior to, and during our stay.
Location to the white mountains as well as enjoying waterfront living was what I wanted for my 3 sons and I. This place was plenty big for the 4 of us. The house was clean, the beds were comfy, and the large screen TV was great for movies in the evenings. Kitchen had everything. Helen was on top of making sure we had all we needed, even though I had no reason to reach out for anything. It was a wonderful week on the lake for us.
Didn't have a beach. Water access yes. Says in amenities has kayak there was none .Sent message about canoe never got combination for lock or were paddlers are. Sent message host about this before going .Property for most part comfortable. Some construction materials left around.
The area and the lake was beautiful. We specifically selected the rental for the king size bed. It was a queen sized. I mentioned this to the owner, she replied that she got it at ikea and assembled it herself. Well thatâs nice but itâs not a KING! Heads up the ac is living room area wall unit, no ac in bedroom. The outside furniture was not clean. The grill was filthy. There is a camera in the front which we did not know about until we paid. Overall opinion, nice place but the owner is not honest.
The Freedom House is well located in front of a beautiful lake but sadly we were not able to enjoy the view. The owner told us some days before that some works were going on in the house but it was not clear that all windows were indeed covered with a blue plastic avoiding any view of the lake, which is the biggest advantage of this house. We were expecting a gesture for the price from the owner as the conditions of the house were not reflecting what we rented, but unfairly she kept the original price.
Overall we enjoyed most aspects of the house for our stay. The pros- house is in a great location, open floor plan and comfortable bed. The owner is very accommodating and responds quickly to messages. The cons- 2nd bedroom had a foul smell (the beds also smelled unbearable) that was being masked by a car air freshener so we were unable to use the room. Luckily we had an air mattress and put our daughter in the hallway, also the whole house had a strong odor and the couches werenât clean and there was dog hair in the hallway. My suggestion would be to hire a different house cleaner. Otherwise it is a nice property.
The hostess lives in the UK, so there is a time gap of 5 hours. So that is a little tricky. House was as it was described in the pics. However, I could not get the sound bar to turn on, durning the entire stay. I figured out how to get the sound on the tv to work. When you first walk in the house, the room is filled with beds. It smells musky & moldy. The bathroom ceiling (especially) above the shower & window is filled with mold, I was sick the first 3 days of being there with allergies. That gave me only 2 good days to enjoy my time. This was the first time renting a place like this, I will be more careful next time. When I told the hostess about this issue, of course they had no idea. Didnât seem the least bit worried the mold made me sick. I will not be going back to this particular location.
The location and pond are wonderful! The house is a bit rundown but fine. Itâs not really conducive to more than 2 adults. The lack of screens on all the sliders but one (which is almost broken) was a disappointment. The side yard and under deck were cluttered with previous tenants floats, etc. so it was a bit trashy. The dock and canoe get very hot in the sun so beware. The floating dock wasnât in the water and the steps down to the dock are very precarious. We brought my 83 year old Mom who is pretty spry but she had to be assisted in navigating the tilted slabs that lead down to the water. The dump is an option for garbage and there should just be details about how far and where it is. Itâs easy enough to just drop it off before you go home. There is no ac in the bedroom so if itâs hot sleep with the door open to the living room. It was relaxing but certainly more of a glamping experience.
My family consisted of my wife and I, and our two puppies (3+ years old).
My wife and I loved the location and our pups loved the pond. They loved everything about the place, which brought great happiness to my wife and I.
I would recommend for all types of families.
I did not find out until after confirming booking that I had to handle my own garbage. The days that the town dump was open did not overlap with my stay, so I had to take my garbage with me. This was on my mind the whole time and did spoil the stay somewhat. Everything else about the property was as tranquil as described, and the setting was most private.
My husband, 17 year old daughter, two dogs, and I had a wonderful week at Helen's special cottage this week! Danforth Ponds ranks as our #1 lake for swimming in our many years of lake rentals. We loved paddling our kayaks and Helen's canoe and the sunsets were spectacular. Only held back on the 5th star because my hubby and I found the master bed saggy and uncomfortable, so ended up sleeping on the couches and a noisy neighbor arrived our last two days. But, other than that, a fantastic stay with loads of great swimming in the warm sandy-bottom gorgeous lake, fun watching movies on the big screen, games and meals around the table, reading and yoga on the fabulous porch, munching s'mores around the fire and refreshing showers in the nice bathroom. Would recommend Foss Mountain hike for glorious views of the White Mountains. Thank you for a great time!!
Great spot. Awesome pond. Lots of fishing off the dock and got to explore some cool spots along the connecting waterways. I didnât realize that the sleeping area for the kids would be on a different lower level that also acted as the main entrance to the house. The owners were very quick to respond to questions. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
My wife and I had a fantastic stay. The house was nestled nicely on a beautiful chain of ponds. Great for paddling, exploring, fishing, and a day out on the water.

I live in London UK most of the time but love my escapes to the peace of Freedom. We are not isolated but enjoy a peaceful location, often with the sound of Loons.
We are well equipped and sparkling clean. A short drive to local shops, restaurants and amenities in the area. North Conway is a short car journey away.
