A 3 minute walk east down the beach will take you to Wells Street Beach. They have paid parking, restrooms, great cheese burgers and drinks. Keep walking and you come into West Beach, Indiana Dunes National Park. There are hiking trails and a set of stairs leading to the top dune that will burn off that cheeseburger in about 10 minutes. The view from the top is worth the trip.
Marquette Park (15 blocks west) offers a playground, picnic shelters, lagoons, bike trails, hiking trails, disc golf course, public beach, The Pavillion and Aquatorium venues and a concession stand with snacks, ice cream, beer, wine,specialty drinks and live entertainment.
Drive about 5 minutes into downtown Miller Beach you can visit the shops on Lake Street. The School House Shops, Indie Indie Bang Bang, Lake Street Gallery and Gardner Art Center and Sundayâs Farmers Market are worth browsing through.
Flamingo Pizza, Sand and Salsa Mexican restaurant , Miller Pizza Station, Clutch Bagels, 18th Street Brewery, Tinyâs CafĂ©, Caribbean Roots and Vibrations are the places to go to eat and enjoy live entertainment.
Miller Pizza is the best pizza in town (they also deliver).
18th Street Brewery and Tinyâs are famous for their craft beers and cocktails, whiskey and gourmet sandwiches. If you are a fan of craft beer, this is a must.
Visit Vibrations for fresh salads, vegan sandwiches, bowls, deserts, smoothies and Kombucha. They have yoga and guided meditation upstairs, an outdoor tiki bar and a secret lounge in the basement for private parties.
On summer Sundays enjoy live entertainment, fresh produce, tacos, local artists and more at the farmers market located next to the Old School House Shops on Lake Street.
If it isn't a beach day or you want to go sight-seeing in the city, hop on the South Shore Train to Chicago. (Train schedules are found in our guest book) The station is right on Lake Street in downtown Miller Beach. Itâs a direct short ride that will take you to museums, shopping or drop you right downtown Chicago at Millennium Station.
Bike rentals are available on Lake Street and by the lagoon in Marquette Park. Great bicycle trails in the area through the national park by the way!
Kite surfing lessons as well as e-foil rental and lessons are available just a couple doors down at Windy City Kite Surfing.
Kayak rentals are available on Thursdays (weather permitting) at the lagoon in Marquette park.
This beach home and neighborhood are dear to us. We want you to enjoy and appreciate the space and community as much as we do. We consider you our personal guests. Because your host lives just a couple blocks away, we are available if you need anything, an extra cooler, umbrella, borrow a cup of sugar (or tequila) and give you directions to the current happenings. If you need anything, just give us a call, message or walk down the beach and find us. Itâs a small beach town.
