We made the right choice!
I looked at hundreds of houses and decided on this house. I was worried about the spring water and the driveway. Neither was an issue. We grabbed a few gallons of water at the store in town. The driveway was in great shape and not steep enough to worry about it. Close to town, but feels like you are out in the wilderness. Best of both worlds. Gorgeous house. Great hot tub lounging.

Fabulous Mountain Getaway!
The house was better than advertised. It is spacious, beautifully appointed and extremely comfortable. The outdoor fireplace and the hot tub were extremely nice as was the nice beds and showers. The kitchen was well stocked. The views were breathtaking - I don't think we left the outside porch much other than to explore the area. We had a wonderful family gathering for parents weekend at App State and it was convenient to Boone, ASU and other towns.
The only recommendation that I would have is to provide a water cooler for hot and cold drinking water as it is quite a chore to bring water for both drinking and cooking for a large family.
Can't wait to bome back!

Holiday in the Hollow
This was a weekend retreat for siblings and their spouses. The house was clean and well appointed. The kitchen could use a few more pots/pans for cooking. Because the house is secluded we did more cooking in rather than eating out and had to improvise when cooking. Bringing water and ice was not a problem for us. We rented the house specifically because of the outdoor fireplace and spent most of our time there. The weather was beautiful and the view from the deck spectacular. We do plan to return again next fall

Winter Wonderland!
We really enjoyed our stay at "It's about time!" We went with three families and we had so much space for the adults and kids. We had snow which made the house so peaceful and with breathtaking views. Our purpose of the trip was to go skiing at Beech Mt. The kids where in heaven to wake up and sled in the yard and then hit the slopes. The owner was real nice to work with and he even called to see if we needed anything. He was able to address all of our needs when we first arrived. I highly recommend this house, especially if you have kids because of the endless property that surrounds the house. The recommendation for snow chains and 4wheel drive is a must if there is snow.

Breathtaking!
Best birthday weekend ever! From the minute we headed up the driveway it was awe-inspiring. You will literally be speechless when you see this awesome home sitting at the top of this secluded mountain. Just when you think it can't possibly get any better, you enter this gorgeous home and are met with every amenity you could need. The fact that it snowed all weekend was definitely an added bonus. Secluded, yet within great proximty to all area attractions. Kids skied at both Appalachian Ski Mtn and Beech Mtn. I can only imagine that this house is awesome no matter what time of year which is why we will definitely be back. George, thank you for everything!

A snowy Thanksgiving
Our family enjoyed being snowed in from Tuesday until Saturday at "It's About Time". The home is well appointed, spacious and family friendly. Our only hesitation in rating the home as "Excellent" is that the cook wear needs to be updated. The view is spectacular, and the only sign of neighbors is a tiny light on a barn at the bottom of the driveway -which is only seem after dark. We watched deer, built snowmen, and delighted in a special time with our family. Do not be naive about the steep driveway, we made it up with no problem prior to the snow, but after that it was impassable in our front wheel drive SUV and other vehicles in our party.

Luxury Mountain Retreat!!!
We couldn't have loved It's About Time more!! Starting from the gracious owner who was wonderful to work with and responsive to all questions! The experience of the cabin starts with the road leading up to it- It is a beautiful & secluded road that is surrounded by a creek and beautiful landscaping! Then you see this stunning cabin at the top and we couldn't believe how gorgeous it was in person! The pictures do not do this home justice-it is breathtaking!!! The inside is luxury living at its finest! It has everything you could need and then some! The kitchen is a dream, and well stocked!! The windows in the main living area have views that will take your breath away! The fireplace in the main living area is just stunning! The outdoor fireplace is wonderful and the views are amazing! Not another cabin in sight! We spent Easter here and had the best Easter egg hunt with the kids along the creek!! We all loved exploring the pristine grounds, going on hikes, and seeing all the wildlife! You truly do not need to leave - and you will not want to! We made memories that will last a lifetime at It's About Time! Thank you George for sharing your lovely home with us and for making us feel so welcomed! We will definitely be back!!

Great house, but needs attention to details
House was gorgeous and absolutely perfect for our family! We loved all of the acres of land to hike through and loved the privacy! However, when we arrived one vehicle got stuck in the driveway and we had to call a wrecker. Then when we arrived at the house, it was 44 degrees inside. We had a string of electricians and jacuzzi repairmen interrupting our stay all weekend. We arrived to a dishwasher packed full of dishes and they were filthy! So we began building a fire for heat and washing dishes immediately. Firewood was also wet----needs to be stacked in a different place. The cookware and cooking utensils all need to be replaced!!!! Sink in downstairs bathroom is not functional. Grill needs to be replaced!!!! It is a wonderful house, but details need a lot of attention!!! At the very least, driveway needs to be paved or something, replace grill, replace cookware and utensils in kitchen, fix downstairs sink, etc. It would be a great idea to have someone local manage it and check things for the owner. Also, water needs to be tested to give renters peace of mind! We loved the house and very much enjoyed our stay, but it does need some attention to detail for the money charged.

Nice house but . . .
First off the house is amazing, and George was responsive and helpful via text. The house is beautiful and the location deserves more stars that you can give it. That said the listing is misleading in several regards. The addresses on the listing aren’t the real address, there’s no mention of how crazy the driveway is, there’s no mention of the fact you can’t drink the water, and there’s no pool table despite the photo. I didn’t read the reviews, b/c the rating was a 4.8, so I wasn’t aware until after our booking that I needed 4WD. One person in our party had 4WD luckily bc we all got stuck and had to be towed. I’ve lived in Boone for 5 years, this isn’t inexperience of mountain roads, the driveway is steep, not steeper than normal for the area, but poorly maintained. Gravel has washed off the road and it’s basically a steep mud run with a should that falls off into a pasture and creek. If you’re an anxious person, find another house.
The house is super nice, but lots of things were broken, the back porch door handle was completely broken off, two knobs in the stove were broken, the front door was broken, one of the faucets in the kitchen, and one of the shower faucets were broken.
The hot tub was warm but the water had a funky smell and was yellowish, so despite our excitement to use it, no one did.
The listing shows a pool table/ air hockey, that doesn’t exist.
Great place to get away to, just be warned that it will be hard to access, and you can’t drink the water. Otherwise you’ll love the setting, the deer, and the gorgeous home! Despite our difficulties we would probably stay here again!

Unique Beautiful Home
The home is very nice on the interior with beautiful updated finishes! Lovely kitchen and bathrooms. Kitchen although very nice, needs updated pots and pans. The ones there don't match the kitchen and are a bit worn out. We loved our stay for the most part. Good space for 8 adults. One of the bedrooms showed 3 beds but it only had two when we arrived so we had to adjust.
There is a huge picture window in the living room area to highlight the nice views. However in the morning when the sun is up, it is was very difficult for us to cook breakfast as we could not see for the glare. There is also weird condensation that accumulates on the windows in the early morning hours and you can't see out.
The property is very remote and was further away from the attractions we came to see, but not a huge problem. The driveway is not for the faint at heart. It was brutal. Especially with rain, we had a lot of trouble getting up. We also had to cut our sightseeing short so that we would not have to go up the driveway in the dark. We made the mistake of driving all the way up and parked in front of the front door upon arrival, not good. There is no space to turn around so we had to back down a steep hill and with the rain, it was so slippery.
Two of the TV's did not work and it would be nice to have some fleece blankets for guests that are cold natured. The air conditioning works very good. Also would be nice to have a ceiling fan in the master.
The exterior looked to be a bit overgrown so hiking was not an option for us. The driveway has bushed overhanging that scratched our vehicle going in and out. The property could benefit from a deep cleaning. Cobb webs were all over the porches and some on the inside although the inside was very clean for the most part.
We were not able to access the bear proof trash can as it was filled with hornets. George was very helpful in advising us what to do.
The key to the front door also broke into two pieces when we left one day so we had to go by a Lowe's and have a new key made as there was no extra on the property. This was very nerve racking as we thought we would be locked out.Our last problem was that the lockbox would not close all the way when we checked out so we could not get it to lock. It was very frustrating as we spent a lot of time trying to get it to close.
Overall, we would recommend this property because it is very unique and George is very nice to work with. Just needs a bit of attention to detail.

Thanksgiving 2022
Sugar Grove was exactly as advertised. It's a lovely cabin home in a secluded area, but yet close to Boone and many outdoor activities. We were able to walk up and down the hill and explore the property during our stay. You will certainly get a good glute and leg workout!
The homeowner, George, was wonderful to work with and very responsive. Any questions we had were answered promptly. Wi-fi in the home was reasonable given the area. I was able to work remotely for a few days and had no connectivity issues.
Please pay attention to the information in the description related to the private drive up to the home. It is a single lane, steep drive which requires a comfortable driver and a slow and steady pace. We were there in the fall, and although it did not rain, the drive was wet with dew and muddy in places. I recommend a 4x4 or AWD vehicle as a must in spring, fall and winter.
Overall the cabin is a bit dated, but comfortable. It does offer 3 fireplaces, but the gas log fireplace was not operational. This did not impact our stay. The kitchen was stocked, but if you need something special, I would suggest bringing it with you or buying it in Boone. There is a Walmart, Publix and Harris Teeter all within a 15–20-minute drive. We did bring a Brita water filtration system, trying to cut down on our use of plastic bottles, and that was used extensively.
Bottomline...Sugar Grove is a cabin home to be considered if visiting the Boone area. The sheer number of stars to be appreciated in the sky without light pollution is stunning and certainly worth the price of admission! My family is planning to return in 2023.

Great Location and beautiful house
We had 11 people stay for 4 nights (2 grandparents, 4 parents, 5 children 9 and under). We loved the house and isolated location. Road to property is accurately described in the listing; rough, but 4 wheel drive not needed in the summer. House is not very far from a main road as were many of the listings in the ski areas. There were a few minor things that need to be fixed, but the owner was very responsive and is planning on taking care of them. The AC went out while we were there, but owner had a repairman out very promptly and fixed it. We regularly saw deer and turkeys. Adults and kids loved the house and setting. We would definitely go back.

Horrible/Dishonest/No Communication
It does not state 4-wheel drive required or recommended. Our friends arrived 1st and their vehicle got stuck in the muddy, washed out road to the house and blew a tire. Per the recommendation of the contact, they called to get vehicle out. The man came & dragged the vehicle out to the road (no help offered to get it anywhere to be fixed) & charged X (cash only). It was getting dark quickly so the rest of the party walked up the extremely steep road to the house. I called contact and he said that he didn't feel the road was that bad and our friends probably were not use to mountain roads. (Meanwhile he is out of state) I contacted VRBO who said we could try and change to another property. (I had purchased the cancellation policy) The issue was the party was stuck on the mountain in the dark with no vehicle to get anywhere. I tried repeatedly to explain this but was completely ignored. While waiting for us to get there, they tried to order food. The delivery lady came and said there was no way she could get up that road. Now, the party was stuck at the house with no way to get any food. My husband and I got there around 11pm. We have a Tahoe. My husband gunned it and we literally were swerving and fishtailing the entire way up. When we finally got to the top, I was hyperventilating. (I grew up in WV, I am not someone who does not know the mountains) This was an unsafe, potentially deadly situation. I tried to text the contact to explain how bad the road was and he ghosted me. Because of the condition of this road, we could not safely bring our Tahoe back down. Next day we walked down the mountain & met tow truck who loaded our friend's vehicle & drove it into town to be repaired. (x + cost of repair). After the vehicle was repaired, we drove back to the bottom of the road and again walked up the mountain. We had a 68 year old veteran with us that has COPD. He barely made it up the mountain the 1st night and was stuck in the house the entire 3 days. When the kids went to play the air hockey, it fell to the ground. 3 of the legs had been broken and it had been staged to be standing. The door to the outside fireplace was broken and you couldn't use it to get outside. We had to go thru one of the bedrooms each time we went out. One bedroom had moisture on wall. While we were there it went below 0 and froze the road. We got the Tahoe down slipping & sliding on ice. One party member fell on the ice & busted her knee open on the final walk down

This property was perfect for everything that my family wanted to do. Needing a 4x4 in the winter is a must! Bring extra bath cloths because none were available and housekeeping isn't coming! Nice Home but make sure you know about the water
This is a great property - beautiful home and view. The road up to the house is tough so strongly recommend and AWD vehicle. We did receive a message from the owner after booking that the water in the house was spring water and had never been tested so we may want to bring our own water to drink if we had concerns. While this wasn't a huge issue I do no think it should be reflected in the listing info

Peaceful, sucluded home located near Boone, Banner Elk and Blowing Rock.
Large home/cabin located conveniently between Boone, Banner Elk and Blowing Rock. The location is very quiet and peaceful. While the gravel road does have some ruts, we had no problem getting up and down during July in 2 wheel drive. We enjoyed the property very much for our family gathering.
