Lots of charm and only blocks away from the Root River and Bike trails
Step away from the crowds in this quiet, quaint town of Preston located in Fillmore County. This VRBO is only blocks away from the Town Center with a nice Grocery store. It is also walking distance to the Bowling Alley with a bar and grill. You will feel safe in this small town living and there are no traffic lights in the town. It is located 3 blocks from the Root River and Bike Trails, that goes through other small towns. Preston is know as Minnesotaâs Trout Capitol. It has a 9 - hole fishing course. It also has a Public Swimming pool costing $5.00 per person. Lanesboro is a 15 minute drive which has shopping, Live Theatre, and a Fish Hatchery. Harmony is about a 10 minute drive and known for its Amish tours.
âRoot Havenâ is family oriented. There are 3 bed rooms and a play room with a closet full of games for you and your children. This home is comfortable and ready for your visit.
Had a great time here with my family of 5, including twin toddlers. Plenty of space and even had a children's play room stocked with toys that the kids loved!
We had a fantastic stay, really appreciated the proximity to all sorts of fun family activities - we did the Mystery Cave Scenic Tour, our own Amish country driving tour (courtesy of the host supplied map), biked a ton, went to the community pool, did a few of the "nine hole" fishing spots in Preston (stop by Curt's and/or Driftless Flying Fishing for tips), and went for a tube float down the Root River with Root River Outfitters. House was clean, well supplied and in a great location. Host was very responsive and helpful. Excellent family getaway!
We had a great stay at Pauline's place. The kitchen was well stocked with the essentials and there was a good amount of DVDs, games, chess board, fire pit and more. It was just he 2 of us and the upstairs kings size bed was very comfortable! We would stay again!
The house was perfect for what we needed. We were in the area for biking and Preston has access to great trails. The house was very clean and well organized. It has vintage furniture that we liked and it is nicely decorated.
Home was very clean and nice. Kitchen had everything we needed to make some simple meals. Toy room upstairs was a nice touch. My kids are teenagers but they still enjoyed looking through the toys and playing some of the games. Location was convenient with many local businesses within walking distance We enjoyed the nearby bowling alley for reasonably priced food, drinks, and bowling. The nearby community swimming pool was great for cooling off after a hot day. Host was responsive when we had questions. Niagara Cave, Mystery Cave, and downtown Lanesboro were some other nearby attractions we enjoyed.
Better than the listing. Super clean. Great location for going fishing. Could use a decent bread knife. Few by of the windows open. Mattress topper on king upstairs is way too soft. Nicely decorated. 5 out of 5 with some minor adjustments.
Very nice property conveniently located close to many local attractions. We've loved the bicycle trails, Preston and Lanesboro and found very friendly folks everywhere we went. We'll be back.
We were looking for a place at the last minute to spend a weekend in the Lanesboro area for some quality fall gravel bike rides. This little house in Preston was perfect for us. Very comfortable and an easy (and scenic) drive to Lanesboro for biking and access to the great restaurants there.
Incredibly clean and comfortable. Reminded me of my first house which made me feel right at home.
Pauline is considerate and leaves staple items from previous guests. S&P, a few condiments, coffee supplies, etc. and keeps the checkout process simple!
Thanks
We were in town for my grandson's birthday. We usually stay at a nearby inn but it was booked, so we tried a VRBO. It was my first time and I am thoroughly happy with the experience. Pauline provided communications and updates from the moment the house was booked. When we arrived the home was clean and inviting. We felt comfortable and enjoyed our stay. I would recommend anyone to stay at the property.

We were in the area to go to some of the caves, State parks, Amish Country and sinkhole areas. The house was located centrally between all of them. Great house with room for all three of the kids, there is a setup for having a fire in the backyard, we made s'mores.
The town of Preston was small and delightful, we forgot to pack one of my son's medications and our doctor called it into the local pharmacy and they were able to get it to us in less than 30 minutes. Their grocery store was well stocked and some of their prices were cheaper than Walmart.
On the upper floor there is a playroom for kids, for toddlers-6 yo, but my 10-year-old even played with the toys.
Well appointed kitchen, with many spices and extras that were nice in case you forgot to bring them.
If we're in the area again we would definitely stay.
The four adults were pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness and comfort of the property! The neighbors were nice. The back yard was spacious and had all the comforts of home. Easy location to get to the bike trail. You couldnât ask for a better place! We are hoping to be back with other guests.
Pauline was very kid and helpful the was clean cozy. It was a great Location for the funneral we had to tend to. I alos live all the bored games great safe family atopmshere
Everything about our stay was great! We were in town for a wedding. Cute and cozy house with plenty of space and super conveniently located. Nothing I would change!
We enjoyed our holiday weekend stay in this comfortable, charming home that is centrally located to Lanesboro area activities. Exceptionally clean and tidy and had everything we needed for a long stay. Activities we especially enjoyed were Mystery Cave State Park and Estelleâs Eatery in Harmony. Highly recommend to those visiting the area.
We like that there is a bowling alley and on Sundays bowling is just a dollar a game. The food is good at the bar grill there too. The Grocery store is walking distance and has everything you would want to have including a bakery and coffee. We like going to Harmony and taking the Amish tour. You can meet the Amish and see the culture they live in.
We made sure that the beds are very comfortable. There is a variety of DVDâs at the end of the day to watch a movie. It is a 1950 updated house, but still has the charm. It is a quiet neighborhood.
