We recently stayed at this property with 2 families, 3 kids. Loved the large kitchen for cooking to feed the crew, great yard for running around. The easy access to trails kept our planning simple. The owners were easy to work with when we had a question and made sure our stay was pleasant. Would definitely book here again.
My family and I were in Burke for a wedding and wanted somewhere we could all stay. This home was perfect! Tanya was so responsive and sweet, the home was clean and comfortable and the perfect location to the hotel and "downtown" Burke. Would absolutely recommend to friends and will definitely be back for a ski weekend in the winter!
Tanya and Stuart pay attention to the little details that made our family feel welcomed and a little bit pampered. The house is comfortable and spacious.
Our visit was in the summer and all about mountain biking. The location is fantastic if you plan on lift serve at Burke Mountain or want to hit the Moose Haven section of Kingdom Trails. Millieâs Way is a connector off of the neighborhood across the road. The ride up from town isnât bad, but may be a bit much for younger kids.
We really enjoyed our stay and would be happy to come back again.
Perfect location close to trails, wonderful host who offered lots of great suggestions and answered all of our questions, extremely clean and well stocked with everything you would need for lots of cooking, remarkably sound proof(ish) rooms which were perfect as we were two families with three children under the age of three all of whom are up at various times (both day and night). Nice amenities including fresh flowers, fresh eggs and VT maple syrup - yum! Looking forward to returning!
We stayed for 3 nights, two families with 4 kids.
We were in VT. to bike the Kingdom trails. The house was conveniently located to trail entrances and town. The house was spacious; we loved the kitchen and deck area. The beds were comfortable and the house was very clean. Tanya was a wonderful host! She left us a welcome note and doggie treats for our dog, which he loved!
We all had plenty of space in the house and had a wonderful weekend!
Owner Tanya was very good in communication and this house is as clean as it gets. This is our second stay at this house and would come back again and again. We all enjoyed wonderful East Burke and everything it has to offer! Thank you for everything!
Six mountain bikers plus one trail runner stayed here for a long weekend to enjoy the KTA trails. It's a short drive to town and trailheads and also easy enough to bike to/from the house to the KTA and Burke Mountain trails. House was clean and well-supplied - we especially appreciated the environmentally-responsible items provided. Owner was easy to communicate with and very friendly - even left us some fresh eggs and maple syrup from a neighbor's farm! The house has a nice lay-out for a big group and we would recommend this to others looking for a pet-friendly rental in the NEK.
Wish I could say it was the worst experience ever so that no one would ever rent it and my wife and I could have it all to ourselves whenever we wanted but unfortunately I can't. The house and the landlords are the best ! This is the place folks. Awesome vacation, great location for just about everything at least in the late summer and early fall since that is when were there. (Dog loved it also)
My family and I were in VT for my wedding and had the opportunity to stay here for the weekend. It was wonderful and cozy home that they have made. When we walked in, we saw that Tanya had left us some wedding gifts that we could share with our family and friends. It was an incredibly kind gesture that made our wedding weekend all the more special. The entire experience from check-in to check-out was effortless. We hope to stay here again in the future. Thank you to our kind hosts!
This is the perfect home for exploring the Kingdom trails and for hiking the Whites. The home is immaculate with everything you need, and all of the extra touches (fresh flowers, hand made soaps, and other goodies). We will definately return!
From the moment we walked into the property, we knew our stay would be amazing! The property was so clean, comfortable and welcoming. The owners left us a personalized welcome note which added just that perfect touch from the beginning. The owners were easy to reach and got back to us very quickly with any question we had. They were very friendly and super easy to work with. Thank you again for an amazing stay. We HIGHLY recommend staying here!
The house was great for a family gathering of 5 adults and two children. Immaculately clean. Comfortable kitchen and outdoor deck and gas grill. Beautiful and convenient location. Easy to reach and friendly host. Would love to return.
The cottage was really nice and well located. Communication with owner was great and we were really well received. It would have been nice to have fans in the rooms on the 2nd floor as it was really warm.
The house was better than we expected. Lots of space for people and a full equiped kitchen. The location is perfect for skiers and bikers. Tanya is really quick to answer the messages and if there are any problems. Thanks for the weekend
Itâs our third time at this place. The spot is perfect to ride kingdom trail , the house is perfect for that type of retreat and the owner are very cool.
What a great location! All the amenities one needs to be on the door step of some great gravel roads. Our crew came down for the annual Rasputitsa race and were thankful for the location being near the start and finish of the race. Great hosts, great house and it kept us warm during this years very cold and wet race. See you next year!
House is very nicely fitted with with modern fixtures and a great kitchen. Location is great for riding Kingdom trails. Only thing that could make it better would be shed, or basement storage for bikes. We will stay here again.
Pros: location; on Burke Mountain, half mile from mountain bike trails, close to village. Excellent kitchen, living room, entertaining spaces. Comfortable beds. Plenty of towels. Very clean. Large yard. Large back porch with grill and stand for many bikes. Pet friendly. Host is very responsive and flexible.
Cons: no A/C but many fans are included for each bedroom
The hosts were simply wonderful and quite helpful in making our stay perfect. The house was well equipped and it was a perfect location for all Burke activities. Would stay here again and again.
I left a brand new huge school in 1965 to move here from the Chicago suburbs with my parents and new baby brother. My father was so proud to show me the 2 room schoolhouse where I was going to attend first grade the following year. I remember crying in the car and proclaiming that " I'm not going to go to school in someone's house! " We moved into the Wilderness Lodge and it became our private home ending the business it had been as one of the original housing options at Burke Mountain. My mother wasn't too sure what she was getting herself into moving from the city to Vermont and was scared of the bears but quickly grew to love it and the friendliness of the people here. Things have changed somewhat since then. That 2 room schoolhouse is now The East Burke School, a private secondary school. The public grade school has grown with the town and now has more than 2 rooms but still has the same small community feel that you will experience when you visit Burke. (It's still not even close to the size of that school I left!) I am now proud that I was fortunate enough to have gone to a two room schoolhouse. After leaving for a while to work in Boston at MGH, I have returned to Burke and have no intention of leaving again. (Except to visit the ocean with family members who live in more urban settings. That's where we vacation if we're not visiting other mountain towns.) My "little" brother, Gary just left upstate NY finally moving back to Vermont. He remains very connected to the property and community here. My husband Stuart is a native Vermonter. He is a self employed carpenter who is responsible hands on for the latest Wilderness renovation as well as the newest LCD TV. The available books and games were more my idea. He has lived in Montana and Hawaii as well but also chose to come back to Vermont. We live nearby with our dogs, Annie and Donnie. We enjoy everything that the outdoors has to offer and are happy to share it all with you
Since the passing of my parents we are pleased to return the house to it's roots by opening it up once again for guests to enjoy! We have retained the original name, Wilderness Lodge, in order to give a nod to bringing history forward.
