Wonderfully exceptional and beautiful stepping back to a more peaceful time and place!

My family experienced a memorable vacation in a charming, beautifully restored turn-of-the-century (1900s!) farmhouse, that was lovingly and delightfully cared for by Ellie and her daughter! Ellie provided us with the kind of genuine and generous care that only family would provide! She will always be in our hearts and thoughts when recalling our summer family vacation in Creal Springs! Thank you! Again, Ellie!🤗

The property and home is absolutely beautiful and loved the location as it was close to the things we had planned for our weekend but first disappointment was hot tub didn't work ok we got through that then the stove was not usable at all gas was leaking bad so all the food we brung we couldnt cook and lived off a gas station chicken/pizza .That kinda really was crappy. The owner was very nice but never offered any kind of partial refund for the huge inconvenience of having not stove to cook on

My #1 priority when hosting guests is to do all I can to ensure that they have a wonderful stay. I am truly sorry to hear that you were disappointed w the time you spent at the cottage. In response, I would like to remind you that you were contacted the very day the jets on the the hot tub stopped working & informed that a repairman was coming, but that the first open appt wasn’t until the day before your arrival. Unsure if it would be available for use, I offered you a full refund at that time & even offered to assist you in finding another local VRBO equivalent to mine. When you declined, I offered 10% off. Additionally, you were not charged for the 3 extra people that you brought, nor any extra cleaning fees. You were not charged for the damages done to the duvet covers & shams of three beds, nor for the damages done to the patio. While cleaning, the discovered toys & clothing items unintentionally left behind, were not discarded, but instead were mailed back to you - again free of charge. Idk what to say regarding the stove. It’s a new appliance. You reported a leak, & I immediately contacted someone to evaluate it. Once assessed, the repairman reported that no leaks could be found & that the unit was in perfect working order. The two issues mentioned in your review were beyond my control, yet I genuinely tried to accommodate you for any inconvenience you may have experienced. I do sincerely apologize that you were unhappy with your visit.

We were welcomed into the property with pretty fall flowers and porch decor. Well lit both inside and out creating such warmth. Lovely cottage with beautiful color coordinations from the wall paper and pictures to furniture, rugs, tiles and such pretty light fixtures. Original wood and doors in the house just brought ya back in time. Spotless rooms and just the most comfortable beds. The claw foot tub was so relaxing and healing. Clean large shower. Plenty of clean towels and extras if ya needed them. So kind! So much room! The kitchen had all we needed right down to a loaded container of ice in the freezer! The fire pit was the best under such a beautiful night sky. A great little area designed for relaxation and even some good srory telling. Plenty of comfortable seating. We enjoyed roasting our marshmallows.The host is fantastic! She really wanted to make sure our stay was one of comfort and joy. It was the best time! So much to do and see. Excellent location. This property is picturesque. Horses and trees and a beautiful sky! Thank you! We will be back!

First of all, I would say that I am a totally imperfect, but born again believer in Jesus & have been blessed in this life far more than I ever deserved. I’m a proud Momma of four, MeeMaw to one, big sister, & Daddy’s girl. Family is incredibly important to me & they are the very beat of my heart. I’m also a Mommy to Piper, my English Bulldog (the official mascot of SBC). She’s adorable & quite a character to be sure.
I grew up on the farm that sits directly across the road & anyone who knows me well would say I’m a country girl through & through. I drive a pickup truck, ride a Harley & have a sports-car… or two. I enjoy most outdoor activities but my favorites are riding horses, hiking, gardening, & photography. Indoors, I enjoy playing basketball, scrapbooking, playing piano, reading classical literature (& anything by Max Lucado or Lee Child), as well as, various types of “crafting” (especially making old time pin & sequin Christmas ornaments). Travel is another hobby that makes me happy. I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in different cultures, meet amazing people & be allowed to share incredible experiences with them. Alaska is my favorite state to visit domestically (especially if there’s dog sledding involved!), & Italy (specifically the Sorrento/Capri area) is my favorite European place to sneak off to… at least so far. I hold a master’s degree in nursing & retired from labor & delivery a few years ago. I did, however, keep my IBCLC credentials active & I still, on occasion, do some consulting work with new mommies & babies that are having issues with lactation. I continue to work at our family business, Tanner CPA Firm & am absolutely the busiest “retired” person I know.

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

I grew up here & still reside on my family’s farm nearby. I know this location to be very peaceful & just being here brings about a sense of calm. The front yard stays shaded most of the day & the covered front porch is the perfect place to grab a good book & spend a leisurely afternoon rocking in the fresh air. The swing set & merry-go-round in side yard are the very ones I myself played on as a child. ;) There is a small pond & a large variety of fragrant flowers growing spring through fall. You can find many vibrant, albeit oddly shaped, wild mushrooms in the woods. (While they are pretty to look at, they are completely inedible!). The old barn is currently enjoying a face lift of its own, but still a pleasant sight. It will soon offer guests the opportunity to feed, pet & interact with small farm animals - should they desire. Summer vegetables are grown in the back yard garden & is open seasonally for guests to enjoy. Those veggies are especially delicious when grilled on the back deck.
While returning the cottage fully to days when it was newly constructed is impractical, the skill & craftsmanship used in creating this space 115 years ago remains apparent. The detail found the woodwork is stunning & understanding that it was all completed by hand, without the aid of modern tools & lasers, is
impressive indeed. Most of the furnishings are antique, but far from fragile, & were chosen with comfort in mind.
Sandbank Cottage was opened to provide guests a retreat from the craziness & fast pace of everyday, normal life. There simply is no better place to relax & just breathe.

you are looking for, this is the
place! Sitting on 15 acres, there's
plenty of space to explore. While
the property is definitely in a rural setting, it is centrally located among many of the wonderful things Southern Illinois has to offer. The Shawnee Forest, SIU-C, Shawnee Wine Trail, Tunnel Hill Bike Trail, Lake of Egypt, Crab Orchard Lake, many state parks & a plethora of wedding venues, antique & unique stores, & golf courses, are all only a short drive away.
There's a variety of wildlife in this area & during your stay you will be able to see white-tail deer,
squirrels, rabbits, & maybe even
fox or a wild turkey or two. You
can hear all the sounds nature has
to offer: crickets chirping, birds
singing, bullfrogs bellering & barn owls hooting. The sunrises & sunsets are beautiful & the stars take on a glory all their own at night.
The decor is reminiscent of the style poplar at the turn of the century. Although there have been upgrades made to the kitchen, along with the installation of a rain shower & HVAC system, much of the house remains as it did over 100 years ago. The wood floors, staircase, wood trim, fireplace, columns, front door... all are original to the home. Coming for a visit allows you to enjoy modern amenities, while taking a step back in time.
