Exceptional accommodation in a charming hilltop village

We spent a memorable two weeks with our two young-adult daughters in this beautiful home in the charming hilltop village of Montferrat. As other guests have commented, the house is decorated to a high standard, has every comfort and is spotlessly clean. We loved cooking in the very well-equipped, open kitchen and eating at the large table in the dining room on the ground floor, but what we particularly enjoyed was sitting on the roof top terrace, sipping rose and soaking in the 360 degree view and watching the soaring swallows in the evening. All the essentials like paper towels, dishwasher detergent, napkins and bathroom tissue are there for a good start. There were even picnic essentials like insulted picnic bags and picnic plates and plastic cups, folding chairs and a picnic umbrella are on hand. Lot of fun DVDs for the late evening after full days of touring. The townspeople were welcoming and curious about 'Les Canadiens'. We shopped at the bakery and surprisingly well-stocked grocery store and drank espresso at the bar opposite the main square. One evening there was a band in the square with tables set out and dancing. We felt so privileged to have such an intimate, inside view of French village life. For large shopping days, we went to Carrefour in Draguignan. Be sure to visit the wine aisles. There are wonderful wines available in 2.5 litre boxes. Get the higher end ones and you won't be disappointed. Guy, the owner, is an excellent communicator and makes the whole process run smoothly. He left tons of information about the house, town and surrounding area. Sylvain, his local contact, is charming, helpful and also an excellent communicator. He speaks almost no French but we all understood each other perfectly. He was always available, although we really didn't need to avail ourselves of his services. We have recommended La Renardiere to interested friends and will surely return, ourselves. Our only complaint is that two weeks wasn't nearly enough to both see the many sights nearby and relax more on the rooftop terrace and just enjoy the town. Next time we will book for 4 weeks. All in all, an unforgettable holiday.

A GEM IN THE HEARTH OF PROVENCE

We were three couples in our sixty and stayed at the RenardiĂšre from Sept 27th to Oct 4Th. The house surpassed all of our expectations. It is beautifully decorated, ultra clean and has all accessories you may need from kitchen utensils to laundry soap and wood for the fireplace. There are 3 rooms all on separate floor and each with its own peculiarity. We had the top unit but count 45 stairs to go up!!! Better not to forget anything. Sylvain the housekeeper is at your service during the whole stay. He greets you with a warm welcome and tours the property explaining everything. Should you need anything he is there to help you. The only caveat is that if you have mobility problem this property is probably not for you.The whole is way better than on the picture. In town do not miss the restaurant La Voute. The owner Guy and his wife Mercedes are simply adorable and the food exquisite and reasonably priced. Anyone we met in the village was nice to us and seemed to appreciate our business. There is a good cafe/tobacco store where they serve a super expresso or for those with a more delicate palate and creamy cappuccino. The grocery store has everything you may need and the small bakery has fresh bread and croissant daily. We went to la Bastide des Moines and truly enjoyed our buffet style meal. Contrary to comments on trip advisor we found we had good value for a fix price of 25 euros although the wine was very ordinary. Jacqueline at the restaurant le Relais will greet you with excellent family dining. The location is ideal to visit les Gorges du Verdon, St-Maxime for its boutique and restaurant, St-Tropez for its glamour, Callas for its olive oil, Draguignan, Chateau Ste-Roseline for its excellent wine and the beach of Tahiti not to be missed although on the expensive side. Finally dealing with the owner was smooth and efficient and his contract is clearly written. Once payment has been made you will receive all the infos you need to truly enjoy your stay. Thanks for keeping such a beautiful property available to us. It is truly a gem in Provence.

Charming Montferrat

We spent 2 weeks in this lovely house with 2 other couples for the first week and 1 other couple for the second. We loved being the only tourists in Montferrat (or so it felt) and the townspeople were warm and charming. East day trips to Chateaudouble, Ampus, Tour Tour, Bargemon, Callas, Fayence - all a 1/2 hour away. Also Draguinon, St. Tropez and St. Raphael - 45-50 minutes. The 3 interior designers in our group heartily approved of the house and its furnishings. We loved having the option of cooking in or eating out and especially enjoyed the La Voute restaurant, steps away. It was especially nice to have the bakery, grocery store and coffee place in the main square all just steps from the house. Sylvain, the property manager was very helpful. We have since recommended this property to everyone with whom we come in contact.

La Renardiere - Christmas break

We decided to have a French Christmas, so we looked for some spacious accommodation in or near a village on the edge of the mountains. And we found this property in Montferrat, which was perfect. The ground floor kitchen/dinner was big and had everything we needed to cook a Christmas dinner! Plus the bakery was 10 metres away and the village shop 100 metres. The lounge was very comfortable and we would have liked the TV/DVD to be in this room instead of up 4 flights of stairs. Not all the restaurants or cafes were open over the Christmas period but we found a lovely local restaurant in Chateaudouble (5km away) and at least one cafe per village (we exploring the area on our bikes). A very enjoyable stay, all communication with Guy was easy. Parking is 200 meters down the road wasn't a problem. Highly recommended.

The lone tourists in a small town

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely home. It certainly is not for someone who has trouble with stairs as it is on 4 floors. I would venture to say that it is one of the nicest homes in the small town. Really great to go 3 doors down to get our bread and croissants in the a.m. Parking was no problem. And the house was well equipped . we appreciated the extras that were left for us to use like paper towel etc.The property was very clean and well maintained. Really a good location for going thru the gorge and any place one would want to go off the A8.

Short but Sweet!

We enjoyed our stay, albeit short, at La Renardiere. The house has been lovingly renovated, very modern but keeping its old world charm, and is well equipped with all modern conveniences. The accommodation is large and would be perfect for a family. The village is centrally located for exploring the variety of activities the area has to offer. As we were only there for two nights, we didn’t have a great deal of time to look around the area. The one full day we had was spent at Nice (easy to get to, but painful to drive around!), and at Castledouble which is absolutely charming village very close to Montferrat. Guy kindly provided a wealth of information about the house and area before we arrived, and Stefain, the caretaker was there to greet us and show us around the house. Thanks again, Guy, for sharing your lovely home with us!

Oh France

Planning this vacation with Guy was easy and hassle-free. He is very responsive, upfront and explains everything very well. The house is as lovely and cozy as the pictures show it. Montferrat is a typical southern french village for those of you who know France already and there is many more very unique villages within easy reach by car. The Gorge du Verdon is close and needs to be visited, especially Moustiers St. Marie, climb up to the church. Living in this house is more than a vacation, it is an experience that will last a lifetime. Sylvain, the local "host" is a wonderful person and helps if there is a need. Go now and enjoy.

Traveler

We loved La Renardiere, which looked exactly like the pictures and was well maintained. It was just perfect for our family: Our son, daughter-in-law, 16 yr. old granddaughter, 6 year old grandson and we loved our accommodations. Our granddaughter stayed on the 4th floor and was ecstatic to have her own bed and bath, living room, and easy access to the roof deck where she wrote an essay for a class on the roofs she saw there. The kitchen was well-equipped, and we enjoyed gathering there while the cook performed, and the first floor gave us a gathering place while the other floors gave us privacy when we wanted it. The interior design was exquisite. We had easy access for day trips to Gorges de Verdun, lavender fields, Marseille, Cassis and the Calanques, Monaco, Grasse, and many other places. The people in the village were very friendly, and we enjoyed the convenience of the boulangerie, the tabac, and the epicerie. There was a boules tournament we attended and after, even played some boules ourselves. An added treat was the day the Tour de France came through, just 5 mi. from us. The fanfair preceding the race was fun for all of us, and we took a picnic lunch so we were able to have a good place to watch. We also enjoyed dining in the restaurants in Montferrat and in the neighboring villages. Sylvain, the caretaker, was a wonderful contact who always arrived with a big smile, some local information, and even some homemade preserves which we enjoyed with our goat cheese that we purchased at a nearby goat and sheep farm. We would highly recommend it to family and friends.

Beautiful Stone House in Provence.

We recently stayed at "La Renardiere" for three wonderful months over Spring and can highly recommend this property. The beautiful old stone townhouse has been lovingly renovated and very tastefully decorated. The house is very spacious and comfortable having all the modern amenities listed with the wireless internet being reliable. It is nice to have the charm of the old home with the bonus of new bathroom fixtures and kitchen appliances. The photos on the website are accurate to the standard and charm of this lovely property. The position of "La Renardiere" in Montferrat is at the gateway to explore and experience so much of the stunning French countryside, towns, wineries, the Gorge de Verdon and the Cote de Azure. Montferrat has their own boulangerie and small supermarket as well as a couple of restaurants. Larger supermarkets are only 20 or 30 minutes away in Draguignan or Frejus. All very convenient. It's a shame that the house doesn't have TV reception, as it would have been nice to relax of an evening with both local French and English channels. There were plenty of DVD’s though to watch movies. The bedrooms have very little hanging space for clothes - which is probably not a problem for shorter stays. Guy was very helpful with the booking and provided a great information package prior to our arrival. Sylvain, the local caretaker was very friendly and always at hand if we had any questions or problems – which we had none during our 3 month stay. All in all a lovely home, wonderful position and the small town of Montferrat is very pretty and friendly. The perfect place to stay short or long term. We look forward to returning to "La Renardiere" in the future.

It was exactly what we wanted!

The house is delightful. It is in 4.0 condition and well lit (good natural light with the shutters open) and airy. There is plenty of room - we had ourselves and son/daughter in law/granddaughter (there were toys ther for kids!) - and each family was able to both share space and have plenty of privacy. The kitchen and baths are first class - we did some of our own meals (the Carrefour is a great place to go, but we also found that the epicierie in Bargemon had a very good selection and very good prices). It was a treat to have fresh croissants each morning with our coffee, and to sleep in (it was that comfortable). The village is very nice - certainly picturesque, but also friendly and just a nice place to be. We made some driving trips in the area - a trip to the Gorges du Verdon and Moustiers Ste Marie one day, a trip to L'Abbaye du Thoronet another day, and shorter trips otherwise, including the American military cemetary in Draguinan. The restaurant at Castledouble is a destination - for the food and friendliness of the owners. Our granddaughter ended up needing a doctor and we found the hospital at Draguinan to be efficient and easy to deal with. The cheese shop at the farm on the road to Castledouble is a must if you like cheese. The winery at Figanieres (the one on the main highway next to the Hermitage B&B) is a good place to get your wine for the week. We hope to return to Provence and, if we do, this is where we would prefer to stay.

Stunning home in a welcoming village

We would highly recommend this charming home in Montferrat. The pictures beautifully reflect the home. The old character of the home has been wonderfully maintained while still providing all the modern necessities. What is not reflected in the pictures are the lovely people in the village. Difficult to do; and yet, we were welcomed into the community and thankfully informed of the festive activities that were taking place in the village (fireworks, free vin chaud in the square, wagon rides with Santa....). Our older children (19 & 20 years) loved their own rooms with ensuites and we all enjoyed cooking Christmas dinner in the fabulous kitchen. We enjoyed pizza from the local store and had a lovely meal at the local restaurant 'La Voute' where we met some of the locals. We flew into Nice and enjoyed the drive to Montferrat. From the village we drove to the Verdon Gorge (spectacular drive/sights) and went to Aix-en-Provence (wonderful Christmas environment) and also loved many of the beautiful villages nestled into the mountains. Our favourite was Bargeme (just north of Montferrat). Draguignan is a terrific town that provided excellent shopping and a wide selection of great restaurants. We loved driving around the area and appreciated our GPS very much. We did hike up to Montferrat's church on the hilltop and discovered a breathtaking view. The hike to waterfall is beautiful also and easier to get to. This was our first visit to Provence and the home in Montferrat definitely made our stay a more memorable one, especially during the Christmas season! All the communications with Guy were extremely helpful and timely. We were very appreciative of the incredible package Guy provided prior to our stay. La Renardiere is forever in our hearts. Merci beau coup Guy!

Beautiful house

An old cozy and charming house with all the modern conveniences, situated in a tiny village next to the Gorge de Verdon, wine producers (both high-end or smaller bio-dynamic ones), medieval towns, organic vegetable producers, amazing food, castles; and of course close to St Tropez. On the "review tips & guidelines" section there are a few questions we (the reviewers) are supposed to consider -- the answer is a resounding YES to all of them.

We would like to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay and how wonderful our accommodations were and especially the location in the village. We enjoyed wondering around the village and we hiked up to the old church on the hill over looking Montferrat. We later enjoyed a great meal in the little restaurant across the street. We especially appreciated all the great information you had in your welcome box for day trips and places to see around the area. We felt so very much at home and really enjoyed all the modern comforts amidst the old architecture. Thank You again!

10/10 Excellent

Provence at its Best!

The property is centrally located in Montferrat, a midieval village 15kms from Daguignan in Provence. Following our booking, a key was sent to us as well instructions regarding the heating, kitchen, and internet. Access to housekeeping is available but was not used by us during our stay. We were also supplied with information of the general area. We ( 2 adults)stayed for one week in the month of October following a week stay in Paris. Montferrat was a welcome change from the pace of Paris. Having arrived from Toulon via rental car we were able to access many areas near Montferrat including Nice, St. Raphael, Moustier St. Marie and the Gorge de Verdon. Access to the Autoroutes are clear and with a good map many towns and cities are waiting to be explored. The house, beautifully finished with modern fixtures and conveniences, is situated in a convenient location near the shops and bakery. The local hotel serves an excellent morning coffee. The atmosphere of the house and village exemplify the quiet and charming life of Provence. We would recommend this property to those interested in a variety of activities; whether they be hiking sightseeing, the beach, relaxing or exploring history. This property can easily accommodate a traveling family. Definitely a gem in the heart of Provence!

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

The town is authentic as can be with most being local French, some do speak some English so you can get still communicate. it's full of life, character, amazing people who have the 'joie de vivre' in everything that happens in the village. thee offset of the charm, it is central many opportunities in Provence.

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?

The village house is unique in that it is a house within the center of Montferrat. You do not have to walk far to get your essentials, or participate locally. This is why we bought the house, we wanted to have that authentic experience without the hassle of taking care of a yard in another country. We use it as a home base, as there is so much to see around. You will not want to spend time in a yard - you have the whole of the south of France at your doorstep. Go out and see the sights in as little as 15min or up to 1hr away via easy drives.
