FARM & RAINFOREST LIVING
One of the things guests love most about staying here is experiencing the sights and sounds of Hawaiʻi's tropical rainforest.
This is not a resort. It is a real farm in a real rainforest.
You'll hear birds throughout the day and coqui frogs singing after sunset. Rain showers can pass through quickly and unexpectedly, often followed by sunshine moments later. The landscape is lush, green, and constantly growing.
Because we are located on a working farm in East Hawaiʻi, nature is very much part of the experience. Guests will likely see geckos, tropical birds, butterflies, coqui frogs, and other wildlife that call the island home.
Like all homes in rural Hawaiʻi, occasional encounters with tropical insects are possible. Mosquitoes, moths, and even the occasional cockroach or centipede and other rainforest creatures are a normal part of island life, especially after periods of rain. We regularly maintain and treat the home and surrounding grounds, but the tropical climate means these visitors can occasionally find their way indoors.
Guests who enjoy nature, privacy, and a quieter pace of life often find that the rainforest setting becomes one of the most memorable parts of their stay.
OFF-GRID CONSIDERATIONS
Part of what makes this property unique is its eco-conscious design.
The home utilizes solar power, rain catchment water, and other sustainable systems that allow guests to experience a different way of living while still enjoying modern comforts.
A few things to know before booking:
• The home operates entirely on solar power. For most guests, daily life feels no different than a traditional home.
• During rare emergencies or extended periods of unusually poor weather, a backup generator may be used to help ensure guest comfort.
• As with any off-grid property, we ask guests to be mindful of unnecessary power usage and avoid leaving lights, appliances, or electronics running when not in use.
• Cell service may be weaker inside the home due to the metal roofing and rural location, though reception is generally available outdoors and near windows.
• Starlink WiFi is being added and may be available during your stay.
• The home utilizes a Cinderella toilet system rather than a traditional septic system or cess pool. This modern off-grid technology is clean, odor-free, and simple to operate. Easy instructions are provided inside the home, and most guests become comfortable using it after their first use.
• Property roads and pathways may become muddy after periods of heavy rain.
• The driveway is long and rural. If arriving after dark, please follow the directional signs carefully and let us know your approximate arrival time so we can assist if needed.
• Tropical weather can change quickly. Rain is common throughout the year and is one of the reasons the surrounding landscape is so lush and beautiful.
