Special Events
As a vacation destination, Monterey is also host to a large number of special events every year. The annual AT&T golf tournament always attracts top players and the US Open is played periodically at the Pebble Beach venues. The Monterey Jazz Festival, the motorcycle Gathering at Quail Lodge and several other festivals take place throughout the year. The Big Sur Marathon attracts some of the best runners in the world. Possibly the best known event is the Pebble Beach Concourse D ’Elegance and auction. Through the years so many other car events have been added at venues around the Peninsula that locals now speak of “CAR WEEKS,” which features some six or seven important auctions, specialized single-make car shows and the Historic Races at Laguna Seca featuring the beautiful race cars of the post-war era.
