Great location and views but worn out

Everything was good for the most part. The property needs maintenance and some renovation. It's just worn out, from the deck (has soft spots, be careful!) to the interior and furniture. Non-functioning ceiling fan in the great room. If you're looking for an updated, new and shiny place, this ain't it. We had a little snafu with the housekeeping but it was taken care of. It's right up against the public beach access so there's a constant parade of cars on the street and people walking by. The houses are slap up against each other so easy to hear the other renters carrying on into the night. It served our purpose but we waited too long to rent something for our stay so choices were limited.

The upstairs deck was our dog's happy place and we enjoyed people watching with him. As others have mentioned, this rental is in need of upgrades and maintenance. I would describe it as visiting your Auntie's lake or beach house that hasn't changed much since you first visited in 1998, mis-matched silverware, "well-loved" furniture, and assorted left-behind beach chairs. Brand new televisions everywhere, but we were here for the beach and quiet time, not cable and streaming.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This home is in a great location and has a great layout, but is in need of some TLC. Mattresses are very hard. We had some breakdowns with the top level air conditioner and washing machine. Beach Realty responded quickly and both were fixed within days. Having bikes to use was a great bonus. Cleaning upon arrival did miss vacuuming the living room and kitchen. We enjoyed being by a public busy beach. Corolla was 5 minutes away so easy for grocery shopping. New mattresses are needed in queen size bedrooms. Beach was lovely right out front.

Great location

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: First the positives. the home is in a great location on one side of the boardwalk that leads to a beautiful beach with lifeguards. The home is nicely laid out with the living area upstairs and bedrooms down. The kitchen is very well equipped. The climate control system works well. On the flip side the mattresses, even though recently replaced were uncomfortable. The great room furniture was worn. Being the end of the season the exterior of the home needed a good pressure washing and many screens need replacing. The rental agency was a pleasure to work with quickly answering questions and concerns. Overall we had a great time.

Reviewer Comments: The vacation home was unfortunately in very poor condition, it was very outdated with horrible mattresses in every bedroom and the rental company did a terrible job cleaning the home prior to our arrival, in fact they had dirty towels under the car port for more than 15 hours, sand in the tubs, the outside stunk like someone cleaned fish and dint clean up. We still had a great time because we made the best of it but i would give this house a 1/5 and would NOT recommend renting this home.

Great location, poor upkeep

The location is 5 out of 5. We’ve stayed all over OBX and this location is top marks. Right on the beach, easy access to the water, shops, and restaurants. The neighborhood is well lit at night for walking the dog etc. The house itself on the other hand is poorly maintained, I’m not talking about maid service or cleanliness necessarily - that was adequate. There are outlets not properly affixed to walls, many of the top floor lights flicker even when off, and there he decks are squishy. The top floor deck rail isn’t one to lean against so be careful. The teenager room is completely disconnected from the main house in every way. The rooms nice and if you have older kids it’s probably okay. The neighborhood doesn’t have a pool, so the lack of one at the house kind of stinks. The bathroom showers struggle to drain, probably from all the sand… but just something to know in advance. If I had known the above in advance I wouldn’t have rented the house and certainly won’t again.

Reviewer Comments: house is unmaintained / yard is a mess weeds and vines growing everywhere / when we pulled up we almost left but we had my daughters friend fly in so we were stuck staying / driveway was covered in dirt and debris / old broken chairs sitting there in a pile / just a mess !!!! / what a shame / inside was clean but very dated we had to go to the store and buy fabreeze because carpets smelled so bad/ beds we were worn out / bathrooms were clean but very dated and tiny / couches look like they were from the 70's the two bedrooms by the beach walkway were so noisy you were woken up at sunrise and kids would still be running and talking till 11pm.what a shame the house is a great layout awesome views from kitchen, kitchen was a nice layout but old and counter tops were stained / back deck views were great ( old plastic chairs were broken or worn out) picnic table on deck is old and worn out there were so many spider webs the kids would not go outside onto the deck. sorry but all we can say was the inside was clean but very very dated old side was unacceptable looks like house is abandoned needed to be painted 5 years ago.

I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Coast is clear is in a great location and great for pets. However, when we arrived there was a horrible sewage smell inside and was not taken care until a plummer could come-a bathroom seal had to be replaced and the plummer said the baseboard and floor boards were saturated with urine in that bathroom. There was a moldy shower curtain in another bathroom and we had to wait a day for that to be replaced. There was a rug runner in the kitchen that smelled like urine so we left it outside for the week. The rug in front of the sliding class windows had visible stains on it. Outside water was turned off, but that was taken care of as well. The management company was great with addressing the issues. The space was great and the kitchen was well stocked with dishware, pots and pans and utensils. This would be an even better place to stay if the furniture was updated in the living area. When you pay what we paid to stay there you do expect the place to be odor free and clean. We expected it to be dated due to the pictures which were accurate. Overall, our stay was rocky to start but once the smell issues and the moldy shower curtain was addressed it got better. The location and views were great.

Good location, Pet friendly, but very run down and filthy

Rating Details: The property manager was adequately helpful. The vacation rental was very dirty. I was more than happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Despite being close to the beach (located behind a very tall Sand dune so the beach is not visible from any location in the house), and pet friendly. This house was a big disappointment for a vacation rental. First the house was filthy, and not from being pet friendly. Things such as banisters on the stairs being black from hand grease, the fridge had old blood and juice stains in it, floors were sandy and dirty. We actually went to the store to get cleaning supplies and had to clean to make it somewhat livable. The furniture was in very poor condition. The couches had time faded and loose slip covers, the bedding appeared to be at least a decade old if not older. Two beds were broken (our oldest daughter had to do a balancing act while sleeping or else the bed would teeter on its three legs). Even the details in the rooms showed a lack of care. The walls are an old dingy white... a gallon of paint would do wonders... Each room had a contractor grade ceiling light circa 1982... is it really that hard to install a $80 ceiling fan? The bathrooms and kitchen were all dated and in poor condition. I will say the kitchen was actually well stocked for cooking. When you look in the "backyard" you are treated to a lovely view of cigarettes and beer cans. This house has the appearance of being an inheritance that someone can not afford to keep.

Reviewer Comments: The house was in a great location, ocean front , right next to the board walk for easy access to the beach grocery stores and restaurants are really close, reality company was very easy to work with and communicated very well. Mattress need to be swapped out in all bedrooms, cabinets need replaced they were half broken when we arrived. The fifth bedroom is not attached to the house which is inconvenient. Overall it’s a nice place great location. , Just needs a few updates especially mattresses.

Excellent house and access to the beach

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We enjoyed the house very much. I wrote a separate email describing some minor issues for the homeowner to address. We love the open floor plan and kitchen. The deck overlooking the ocean is awesome.

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was more than happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This place has great potential! It has lots of room and is in a great location. Overall, we had a nice stay here. The cleanliness of the place was our main issue. It was neat, but not so clean. The maintenance guy came while we were moving in to change the filters, so they were clean, but the vents covering them had so much dirt/dust on them, it would just fall off if touched--obviously no one cleans these. And there were tables in the other rooms that had not been dusted in a while. Trash under beds, pictures that had fallen off walls laying on the floor under bed and up against the wall. Furniture is not in the best shape (drawers, handles, etc) but it is functional. Rugs look to be old and well used. Formica Kitchen counters were wiped clean but many stains on counters that could possibly be cleaned with a more heavy duty cleaner. Way too many dishes in cabinets--not enough room for renters to put food/supplies. Most of the decor looks as though it has been there for a while and could be done without. If a little bit of $$ were put into this place to update it and have some good cleaners keep it up, it would be so much better. I loved the room that it offered for our large family. Maintenance staff were quick to resolve our issues.

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was clean. I was very happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had the following issues.1. The outside first floor was poorly maintained. The entrance to the 1st floor bedroom had not been swept. The floor was covered in pine needles and sand.2. The remaining area for washing beach items was covered in sand and pine needles. The sand buildup was so bad all the water used to cleanup had no where to go and created a pool of sandy water that covered a large part of the sidewalk and car port.3. Bed spreads had bad smell and we washed them.4. Grill cleaning brush was gross looked like it was warn out and full of hair.5. Carpets need cleaning. 6. Could locate a broom to sweep on bottom floor.7. Vacuum on second floor smelled like vomit.
