The place was almost perfect. The kitchen is pretty outdated and dark. The porch (outside could stand to be a little larger. 4 people with a snack tray would find it hard to get around.
The glass three season porch was wonderful and room to 10 or 12 easily (big plus!)
Updated windows were great! Beds comfortable. The cottage was not as clean as I would like when checked in. Cleaning gear left out, piles of dirt not picked up, wet rugs in the washer...but that is a cleaning service issue. Owner VERY responsive. Recommend the lockbox be placed in a location with better lighting. Numbers very hard to read on the lockbox.
Would definitely go back and recommend this to my friends.
We are two retired couples who retreat to Maine after busy summer seasons at home. This cottage provides cozy relaxation in a location that is convenient to Kennebunkpoet, Portland and Freeport, as well as local beaches. We enjoy the beauty of fall in Maine!
What a gem. A good size cottage with a view of the ocean and a short stroll to a rocky beach. The neighborhood is quiet. We saw more walkers that cars during our stay in early May.
I stayed here with my husband and my elderly mother. The house was super clean, The place was tastefully furnished. The furniture was in good condition and comfortable. My mother uses a walker. She was able to navigate the main level. The downstairs bathroom was tight, but the upstairs bathroom had plenty of room. Heat was individually controlled in each room. The kitchen is on the small side, but fully functional.
The sunroom was our favorite part of the house. The sun warms the room in the morning. Even when it was cool outside, it was WARM in the sunroom. The view was great. The first day of ur stay, the surf was calm. That made it all the more amazing when the waves kicked up. Great place to spend the morning.
Marc (the owner) was quick to answer questions. Check in and out was simple. I wouldn't hesitate staying here again and would recommend it to family and friends without hesitation.
As two retired couples, we returned to this historic cottage for a fall retreat. The decor is charming, and the cottage is immaculate. Walking the area provides beautiful ocean vistas, and area beaches are open to the public without the summer parking permits. Owner answered our questions promptly and graciously. Another wonderful fall vacation at this cozy cottage!
The property couldnât have been more perfect for our family! It was clean and well maintained. The property owners put a lot of love in to refinishing a home that offers history and charm.
I was very appreciative of the owners attention and care to our questions.
Highly recommend !
The beach cottage was a great place for my family. The location was beautiful, the neighborhood was perfect. Beach access was a nice walk. A little bit cumbersome without a beach cart as we had so much we brought to the beach each day, but we decided to drive over and park close to the trailhead which made it easier for us all. We enjoyed the size of the cottage. It was great to have family over for the day who were staying at a nearby hotel. The home was clean, beds comfortable, kitchen well stocked with equipment, charcoal grill, ample parking for us, and day visitors. Walkable distance to local grocery store which has a great lunch or dinner restaurant with outdoor seating or as take-out. My family and I enjoyed out stay and hope to come back again next year.
Our overall stay with our son, daughter-in-law, and our 18 month old grandson was great. All was as expected from this listing. However, the house was not cleaned well, but the manager did mention that the cleaning staff was a bit late getting there...perhaps a bit in a hurry. Also the overflow, orange garbages, were not provided.
Loved the property. Could not believe how clean it was. Lots of room and kitchen stock well w/utin
This was a really nice place. There were 5 of us, 2 full baths which are hard to find. Loved it. Can see the water from house. Front porch is beautiful and were we spent time when at house. Easy drive to all kinds of attractions. Highly recommend. You do have to bring your own towels and bed linens. I did not read that well, but it all worked out.
We were very disappointed in the condition of the cottage. The floors were dirty, coffee maker had not been cleaned and still had grounds in filter. The washer was unusable as it had a terrible mildew odor. The location and grounds were nice, but an outside light on porch would have been helpful. Most of the lamps in the home were unplugged as there was no outlet to plug into. Would not recommend to our friends.
Was our third summer here. The sunroom is our favorite. Definite pride of ownership. New kitchen cupboards and counter this year update the small kitchen and look great. Best small cottage in The Pool.
My family spent a week at the Coast Guard Cottage. It is a well maintained and comfortable cottage. The cottage does not have AC or a dishwasher. On hot days we closed windows and shades to keep the house cool and opened windows when it cooled down to let the ocean breeze cool the house down. Morning coffee on the sunporch watching the sun rise was a daily joy. We enjoyed the area, it is quiet, and there are walks through preserves at either end of the neighborhoods. Marc is a very responsive and honest property owner. I would rent from Marc again.
We just returned from our first stay in this cozy cottage. It is comfortable in size and furnishings with rooms prettier in person than in pictures. There really isn't a sound to be heard from the cottage-Absolutely no traffic sound- just the birds and even they were quiet.
We recommend taking the less than 5 minute walk from the cottage to the nature trail that runs alongside the private golf course. It leads you to a view of Wood Island Lighthouse and has several memory benches for resting if you like. We are also fairly certain that we saw some whale tails while at the beach when able to climb further out on the rocks at low tide.
Additionally, we did not initially realize that the Biddeford Pool Beach area leads directly into Fortunes Rocks Beach and enables you to visit without having to obtain a parking permit.
We also appreciated the cable television. Maybe not what most consider important while on holiday, but for us it is. The cottage provides several movie channels which enabled us to watch a couple of movies that we haven't had time to see. Biddeford Pool is small with several neighboring/nearby towns full of shops and restaurants.
We recommend this cottage to beach lovers who love privacy, peace and quiet and would love to visit again.
The cottage was charming and we had more than enough room for a family of three. The location was fantastic and was perfect for beach days and nature walks as well as exploring Portland and Kennebunkport.
The host was very responsive and helpful in providing information for the area.
We didn't think to pack hand towels or wash clothes and the cottage was not stocked with toilet paper, paper towels or coffee filters. This could have also been because we booked very last minute. We will absolutely be back!
Stayed with some fellow medical students during graduation week since we had to attend mandatory activities. There were some issues with the wifi initially, which was pretty inconvenient, however the owner was responsive despite him being in CT and eventually it was resolved. The best part was the sun room--awesome spot for hanging out, or coffee in the AM. Would definitely stay here again if I was back in the area.
We really enjoyed staying here. The most wonderful feature of the cottage is the front porch which has a view of the ocean across a grassy yard with beautiful flowers and is an outstanding place for morning coffee or afternoon cocktails. It has great big windows which open to let in the breeze. It was a very peaceful with an excellent master bedroom on the first floor, an extremely efficient, if compact, downstairs bathroom and a generous and very comfortable living/dining room. The kitchen is tight for more than one person and could benefit from improved lighting. Probably the only significant drawback is the staircase, which is challenging for even moderately tall people. It was clear that the owners really care about the cottage, have kept it up nicely and have furnished it with good quality comfortable furniture and a lot of care. The area is beautiful and quaint. Since we were there in October, a lot of local places were closed, so we branched out to Kennebunkport and downtown Biddeford to find shopping and restaurants for the most part. The acid test is: would I go back? The answer is:without a doubt!
We have been summering in Biddeford Pool for 15 years and recently purchased this adorable cottage. It is recently refurnished and has a new bathroom on the second floor.
The cottage is in a quiet, non-commercial part of town. It is situated one side yard back from the ocean and has lovely open views across the neighbor's gardens. Just 200 yards from a two mile long sandy beach - one of southern Maine's most beautiful beaches. Short walk to Audubon trails. Short bike ride to village of Biddeford Pool with a General Store serving lobster rolls, take-out dinners, groceries and ice cream.
Perfect for a young family that is looking for a relaxing get away. Thought to be the former residence of the first Keeper of the historic US Coast Guard Station next door.
