We were extremely saddened (after a decade of exclusively 5-star reviews) to receive this appalling review. We regret that the guest a) did not tell us his arrival date or time, and b) did not give VRBO his correct email address, and accordingly c) did not receive the entry instructions that VRBO sent to him 10/Nov 5:15pm. We are also sorry that Guests flight was delayed, e) that he did not text us before he eventually took off (as would have been courteous and prevented what followed) f) that he did not land until midnight (5am GMT), and g) we are not awake in UK at that time of the morning monitoring texts. We apologise unreservedly for our lack of clairvoyance. It is true that the house, due to Ivan’s lack of communication, was not set-up immediately following the previous guests departing earlier that day; this was a mistake that will will not be allowed to happen again. In defence of the staff the house manager provided clean bedding on arrival and, immediately they got in the following morning, the two maids changed everything, cleaned up after the previous guests and, to my understanding, kept the house spotless, as usual, thereafter. The house is exactly as photographed, we specifically avoided shots that made the pool look bigger than 30ft etc. The house generally, and the “outside balcony showers” are designed to catch the view/breeze. An open plan building cannot be conditioned and clearly bedroom doors should not be left open with air-con on; all this is strongly emphasised in the house manual which was sent to Ivan in advance and re-enforced on sheets left beside the beds. This is our family home and the mattress is identical to the one I personally chose to sleep on in every country I have a home. The shutters have both stays (when open) and bolts (when closed) so cannot possibly, if used normally, “bang”. None of these issues raised up during their stay, but were instead “discovered” only at the time he demanded, under threat of a bad review, a greater rebate than the single night we had offered for our part in his inconvenience. At the end of their stay the guest refused to check out at the agreed time, despite being offered gratis Hummingbird Apartment for his convenience, thereby disadvantaging the next incoming guests. Please read our other reviews, here and on other platforms, before giving this review too much weight.
