Although we only had a short stay, it was wonderful. The property is beautiful. Such a peaceful setting. Loved the beach and the deer and the quiet. Will definitely be back.
This house in the woods was a much needed time to unplug and just rest. On the main floor, the surrounding woods are visible from many windows. I enjoyed my coffee each morning on the screened porch and watched the squirrels. The walk to a private Lake Michigan beach was 10 minutes, but you can also drive there. We visited Saugatuck, South Haven, Holland and Douglas while there and a Saturday farmers' market in South Haven. We kayaked, hiked, swam, sunbathed, read a book, ate good food. Two nights we had a campfire in a nice fire pit and ate s'mores. One night we were delighted to hear a barred owl's call right above us! Many deer to see. Our dog stayed and enjoyed the water and hikes. It was a nice week to spend with family. Mary communicated well and quickly. Thanks for a great week, Mary!
Spent a week here with our daughter and her family. Wonderful location between South Haven and Saugatuk. Quiet neighborhood with trees all around. You can walk or drive to the beach. The beach area was awesome. Nice comfy house that fit all 8 of us. Our family really enjoyed our stay.
Peaceful, quiet, beautiful spot in the woods, nearby (walking distance) neighborhood beach. We enjoyed many of the local beaches too, some good breweries, mini golf in sagautuck. Cottage was very well stocked, appreciated the extra linens, use of beach chairs and grill supplies and the bonfire. Owner very quick to respond and lots of good info.
The cottage had everything we needed and then some. Great private setting close to South Haven, Douglas and Saugatuck. The hosts were beyond accommodating and gracious! This rental offers an awesome private beach. Looking forward to next year. âșïž
We really enjoyed our stay. The location (about halfway between South Haven and Saugatuck) was great as it provided lots of options for places to go. We went to several beaches in the area which were all loads of fun. Kitchen was decently well stocked with cookware. Only downside was the sometimes quite slow wi-fi, but we didnât travel to spend time on the internet, so it only really mattered when trying and failing to look up menus at local restaurants.
Our stay was wonderful. In a neighborhood with access to a *small* private beach, this house is nestled privately in the woods with a short drive to Saugatuck and South Haven. The setup is conducive for 2 small families as there is an upstairs with a bathroom and a downstairs with a bathroom, with lots of hangout space in between. Mary was very easy to work with, and graciously allowed use of her grills and firewood. This rental is a place we would return to in the future. :)
We spent a week at the cabin and enjoyed our stay. Very relaxing and truly a cabin in the woods. We had 3 generations in our group and the layout of the house was just perfect. Three levels of living with a full bath on each level. Outside decks, screen room, balconies and a hot tub gave us a little extra room and privacy. One small note for some families is the issue of no cable tv/satellite service. Cellular service is spotty so streaming services were not very good. We all worked around that issue and had a great time. Made some great memories and will definitely be back. Mary (owner) was great to work with and very responsive to any questions or issues.
After15 months of pandemic anxiety and concern, The Cottage in the Woods became the perfect place for us to chill and reset. It was fun to explore the surrounding area, relax in the hot tub, and look for that perfect sunset. The owners did a fantastic job of preparing the property for our stay.
We loved the wooded setting and watching the black squirrels darting around in the trees. This home was the right size for the six of us on our first trip to Michigan . Because we cooked our own meals we were pleased to see that the kitchen was well-equipped and clean. The house is well-situated between South Haven and Saugatuck. We spent an enjoyable day in Holland, about 20 miles away. Months ago when we had planned this visit we had hoped to be able to swim at a nearby beach. The nearby beaches have eroded and so we spent time at South and North beaches. Blueberry Festival was held the week we were here and we took home 10 lbs of the most delicious Michigan blueberries. We normally go to North Carolina for our annual beach vacation but decided to do something different this year. We are so glad that we did!
We were greeted by 7 deer in the yard. The place is in great condition - professionally cleaned and well-maintained. Mary was excellent at communicating. There was an issue with the hot tub out of her control and she had someone there right away to look into it. Since we were there in the fall, it was great using the wood stove. Mary had the wood well-stocked. We really loved the open set-up of the first floor. It was a great meeting place for everyone. I would strongly recommend this place.
We had a great time at this cottage in the woods. Very private beautiful setting. Really enjoyed the hot tub with the first snow of the season. Very clean and roomy. Mary was very helpful with any questions we had also.
We loved this cottage for the entire 2 weeks we spent there. Truly, the pictures don't convey just how nice and clean this place is. There is a ton of space for visitors. I would recommend this place to anyone interested. We will definitely keep it in mind for next year!
We had a wonderful girls weekend here!! The cottage has a private feel to it as it is surrounded by trees on all sides. It was very clean and well stocked. It felt much larger than the pictures make it seem. We spent A LOT of time in the hot tub which was wonderfully secluded from any neighbors eyes. Lake Michigan is a quick 5 minute walk from the cottage down a two-track like road. When you get there, there is a nice sitting area with great panoramic views of the lake. Be aware that it is a STEEP climb down many stairs to actually get down to the beach so this would not be ideal for multiple trips up and down and it would not really be practical to haul a cooler down to the water either. Since we went when it was still chilly out though, we already had everything we wanted/needed at the cottage. Mary was very easy to work with; she was very accommodating and quick to respond to e-mails. This was one of the few vacation rentals I found that was willing to take reservations for only one night and it was very reasonably priced especially for the amount of space and cleanliness factors.
The Cottage in the Woods was a perfect getaway for my husband and me to celebrate our anniversary weekend. It is so close to two of our favorite lakeshore resort towns, but we felt a million miles away from it all, in the quiet of the woods. The cottage is immaculate, beautiful and comfortable. A fire in the woodstove and a soak in the hot tub under the trees made it feel like a luxury retreat. We did not want to leave! But we will definitely return in the summer, to play on the lovely beach!

We have lived in Michigan most of our lives and have come to love Lake Michigan and all the beauty of southwest Michigan. Our goal is to provide a wonderful space for relaxation and fun for our guests so they can appreciate all this wonderful area has to offer.
We fell in love with this property as soon as we saw it. The home is comforting and inviting and the property is beautiful and even though we have neighbors, it feels secluded and peaceful. We love hearing the sounds of the woods at night and waking up to the sun sending shafts of light through the woods.
This property provides an opportunity to enjoy a comfortable, roomy home while experiencing the beauty that is Lake Michigan. While staying with us, you can enjoy the peace and quiet of nature and also experience the vibrant cultural activities of the South Haven/Douglas/Saugatauk area.
