à propos de cet hébergement
Caster's Retreat | Historic Abode Sitting on 5 Acres of Land!
Welcome to Caster's Retreat, a unique property that combines the charm of a 1950s adobe house with a fascinating historical centerpiece. Situated at the heart of the home is a wooden cabin from the Manhattan Project, which played a pivotal role in the development of the atomic bomb in Los Alamos. After the project concluded in the late 1940s, many of these cabins were dismantled and sold. Caster's Retreat preserves a piece of this historic era, allowing you to experience the ambiance and intrigue of that time. You can even spot the original door frame of the cabin behind the master bed, serving as a reminder of its rich past.
The house has been expanded over time - by adding additional adobe structures. The blend of original wooden cabin and the adobe additions creates a unique and captivating living space.
The artistic spirit thrives within Caster's Retreat. Many of the artworks adorning the walls come from Paul Lewis, a renowned local bronze sculptor and photographer. Paul's expertise in bronze work led him to collaborate with various foundries in town, including Shidoni and The Allan House Foundry. He even had his own one-man foundry at the house, where he created his own art and contributed to the projects of fellow artists. Additionally, Paul shared his knowledge and passion for the craft by teaching moldmaking and bronze casting at the community college. The remaining artworks in the house are predominantly sourced from the local community, traded among coworkers and friends.
Caster's Retreat also boasts an impressive book collection, curated to reflect the research interests of Nancy Lewis. As an anthropologist and historian, Nancy delved into fascinating topics such as the health seekers in New Mexico, chronicled in her book "Chasing the Cure in New Mexico: Tuberculosis and the Quest for Health." Another forthcoming publication explores the role of New Mexico's war dogs during World War II. Nancy's investigative prowess even led her to collaborate with the FBI on a project involving cattle mutilation in the 1980s, resulting in her authoring the FBI report for Ken Rommel.
With three bedrooms and two bathrooms, you and your furry friend (yes, it's pet friendly!) can comfortably spread out and enjoy the history and artistry Caster's Retreat offers. Don't forget about the lovely landscaped garden and patio area, boasting gorgeous mountain views.
Reserve your stay at Caster's Retreat today and begin your journey into art, relaxation, and amazing food options unique to New Mexico. "The City Different" will keep calling you back in once you've had a taste!
Please Note: A pet fee of $100 applies for each pet.
