Dining on food fresh off the barbeque out on the deck to the accompaniment of a spectacular sunset, a troop of deer passing by and the song of various birds...What's not to like. We were looking forward to peace and quiet and found it. What followed our arrival was an acquaintance with indolence. Want some activity? Swim off the pier or rent a pontoon boat for a day and take a trip up the lake. Lovely house, lovely host. Lovely stay.
Just as the rental name says, "Love Sunsets?" had the best sunsets ever! The unit was spotlessly cleaned and had many things that made one feel so at home.
This was a really neat place for our family to stay and enjoy SML. It had everything we needed and made for some great memories. We wouldnât hesitate to stay here again!
It was a wonderful stay, and super quiet. Just what we were looking for. There were things around the house we felt were not kept up with well, such as landscaping and exterior maintenance.
It was a great location to view the lake, and amazing sunsets! We had a great time here, even though the weather didn't cooperate for using the kayaks. There is a lot to do around the lake, and we didn't have any issues finding good places to eat nearby.
Overall a nice cabin with a full beautiful sunset view. Only real issue for me was the parking for the truck and trailer. Also the North wind almost ruined my boat. That has nothing to do with the owner of the property. This was all mother nature and hernfury. Just a warning if you want to leaveb your boat at the dock. You can pay to leave it at Parkway Marina overnight @ 25 a night which isn't that bad. Again this is a older cabin type of place thats super quiet and very private. There is no traffic at all hardly. Highly recommend this house if you want beautiful sunsets and privacy.
Everything was great except the trash disposal. Finding a dumpster, Bedford County dump, was interesting with multiple trash bags in our car. I guess the summer includes trash service. Everything else was very good.
A few weeks late in reviewing this comfy and quaint cottage; a perfect refuge from the heat and noise of suburban living. The sunsets were spectacular, yes! as was the night skies that ensued. The cottage is nestled in a small sheltered cove providing privacy for swimming, my favorite exercise. Seeing Osprey and Herons was an unexpected gift. Everything I needed was provided by the host ,and she was quick to respond when I had a question or two about this and that. I canât wait to return!
We very much enjoyed our time at this property. Although it was an older home, it had some more recent updates that made the stay nice such as the mini split wall units and some kitchen appliance upgrades. The area was so quiet, peaceful, and full of wildlife! We saw multiple deer daily on our morning walks down the road and around the property!
The heat this summer has been rough, and we used the ac units as well to cool the house down. The window unit filters had not been cleaned in a while and were clogged but we let Laura know and she was very attentive and helpful.
Be aware if you are bringing your own boat, there is very little room to get turned around with a large truck and trailer when arriving as the property is near the end of a private road and donât have a lot of room to get turned around. You are better off driving straight to the marina which is at the end of the road and then driving the trailer back to the house or just park directly at the marina. Parking at the house is very tight and will require some special maneuvering once you are back to the house.
The wooden stairs down to the dock have seen better days and were very steep. A little concerning with smaller kids, but they did well after a few warnings. We did enjoy using some of the paddle boards that were at the property, those were a hit with the kids!
Overall it as a great weekend away, we very much enjoyed our stay!
The home is located on the lake in a cove which was nice. We like to walk several miles a day with our dog so the SML State Park was conveniently 3 miles away. The deck and outdoor dining area is large. The yard is a bit overgrown. We had good weather 2 of our 3 evenings there and watched the gorgeous sunset. Only the sit-in kayak will hold anyone over 150 lbs. Ants were a persistent problem on the kitchen counter area.
A nice quiet escape to the lake. Enjoyed taking our paddle boards out and swimming daily. Relatively close to stores and restaurants. Beware of the mosquitoesâŠthey were brutal one evening and got like 20 bites in 10 minutes!
Absolutely gorgeous setting and views everywhere, incredible swimming right off the dock, and a rustic home, not fancy or modern but with everything you need.
This house has just about everything we need. We enjoyed the Netflix movies. However, it's a bit old with an old house odor. The previous guests didn't wash the dishes, which are in the dishwasher but dishes are dirty. And a screen window fell from the 2nd floor, which could be dangerous. The AC in the master bedroom is too noisy.
What a wonderful few days on SML! The cabin is quaint and tucked away in a quiet area which was perfect for us to celebrate our anniversary. Laura was wonderful to work with and quick to respond to any questions. Our well behaved lab enjoyed the dock and there was enough space in the second floor/street-side room for us to set up her crate. The view from the back deck was great and we saw many osprey flying nearby. We would definitely stay here again!
I am a musician and educator, and this was my former home for 16 years, and I still love it. The lake cottage provided to me a lot of special solace to practice and develop my musicianship on piano, violin, mandolin. Plus, I love swimming!
My father spotted Smith Mountain Lake about 50 years ago and bought a large track of land. In fact, he put the road in, on this peninsula. Several family homes were built and some lots sold. This cottage property was constructed by my father and was my home for 16 years. To eliminate a daily commute to work, I moved to town nearby, and created a beautiful short-term lake rental to share with visiting guests on vacation.
Amazing, breathtaking views of the Lake, brightness and light, peacefulness, serenity and privacy (during the week), lake liveliness on the summer weekends! And, always, Glorious Sunsets.
