If you’d like to venture out:

14 minute drive to Showalter’s Orchard. with hard apple cider (tasting room and amazing views!). Be sure to try their apple donuts, freshly made).

If you like the outdoors, we are centrally located to several amazing hiking trails award wining wineries and breweries, and a soon to be built Rails to Trails path!

Approximately 15 minutes to JMU

Comfortable beds with premium bedding. Queen bed is Wayfair pillow top. The sofa bed is a Crate and Barrel model. Topped with an air cushion layer, the sleep mattress provides twice the thickness of ordinary sleeper mattresses using the highest quality materials and latest technology for maximum comfort.

Premium gas cook stove, Bosch dishwasher and Granite countertops make the kitchen a dream to cook in. I have plenty of cookware and serving dishes to make a gourmet family meal.

Grass fed beef available upon request. We have a farm 30 minutes to the west.

Great All Around

This is our second time here. The views of the mountains truly enhance the beauty of this location. The house is comfortable and well appointed. The kitchen has everything you need. The bed is super comfy. Pamper yourself with a stay here.

Cozy and Fun

This place had EVERYTHING we needed. We came to visit our son at JMU and weren't sure if there would be any activities nearby. The town of Broadway had plenty to offer. Antiquing, throwing axes and great small town restaurants. We also went to Showalter's Orchard which was a short 15 minute drive with beautiful views and delicious cider. The cottage was spotless, smelled great, and was decorated very nicely. The host was quick to answer any questions and talk about the history. We will be back!

Peaceful getaway

This cottage was a perfect staycation for my little family. It was decently close to a lot of what we wanted to do including going to Luray and hiking. We especially loved the patio area and spent every night by the fire. The host was super quick to respond to messages also. We will definitely be returning in the future and have already recommended this location to 3 of our friends!

Fabulous place

We were in town for a wedding and needed a place to stay with our dogs -the 1830s kitchen exceeded our expectations! The downstairs has plenty of space to relax, eat, and watch TV (appreciated that some of the streaming services were logged in as a guest so we didn't have to remember our passwords!) Bed upstairs is comfortable and the shower is nice everything seems brand new. We appreciated the little touches like nice soap and lotion and toiletries if you forgot something. The history of the place made it extra special. The host was amazing, super communicative, accommodating, and friendly. I wish all hosts were as great! Should we be back in the area, we would definitely stay here again. Thanks! logged logged logged

Wedding Weekend

Stayed at the Summer Kitchen for a wedding in area. Home was very clean, had plenty of amenities and the host was great communicating. Location is close to everything but tucked away just enough to be very peaceful.

College Sports weekend getaway

Beautiful old home me with lots of charm , comfortable living area with all the amenities. Close to multiple colleges and caverns. Close to breweries and wineries. We’ll definitely be back when I need another getaway in the area . Wanted to pick it up and bring it to my property.

Perfection!! From the cottage to the host, everything you would hope for and more in a VRBO! Wondeful Hosts and Cozy Stay

An unexpected getaway. Such a quaint and cozy spot for myself and two high school girls attending volleyball camp at JMU for a few days. The hosts were very responosive to questions and the place provided many amenities that we didn't need anything extra. Location is just outside Harrisonburg and was a super easy commute in. Convenient to so many things around the area and friendly locals. Truly couldn't have asked for a better stay on our trip.

Summer Kitchen Perfection

This beautifully remodeled 1830 summer kitchen was the perfect place. Welcoming, comfortable, quiet. Full kitchen, modern bathroom, comfy bed...and a relaxing private patio. I'd come back in a heartbeat. Wonderful, responsive hosts too

We had a very nice weekend here at 1830. It’s a very well appointed charming cottage. It was very clean and very true to the pictures in the listing. We had very good communications with the host Dena. She will make sure the place is ready for you. Highly recommended if you’re staying in the area.

Relaxing & beautiful

This property was such a unique & beautiful find! The hosts kept in touch throughout our stay to ensure that we were enjoying our stay. The house was immaculately clean and comfortable. Location was wonderful and close to so many towns and attractions. We enjoyed hiking in Shenandoah National Park and enjoyed many of the local restaurants in the area as well. The house was relaxing and quiet and we loved that it was dog friendly as well! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be telling others about this wonderful home and hosts!
