Meteor showers
Delta Aquarids | July 29-30, 2023
Perseids | August 11–13, 2023
Draconids | October 8–10, 2023
Orionids | October 20–21, 2023
This is an off grid cabin that was originally built as a hunting camp in the early 1900s then modified to suit the back-to-the-landers, and then survive Y2K, and now a comfortable cabin/house to enjoy the mountains and surrounding sights. It has all the amenities of power, running well water, septic, showers, sinks, refrigeration, and yet little carbon footprint. Open concept downstairs with 2 bedrooms upstairs. Lots of open space to view the night sky or climb the mountain and see vistas from Acadia National Park to Camden Hills.
This mountain Cabin is a remote and secluded vacation rental in the region. This is the place to be if you truly wish to escape the stresses of “civilization." This is NOT a typical rental home. Very far from a motel! It is an off-grid home and powered by solar and wind.
The cabin has an open concept living with kitchen, dining area and living room all connected on the first floor. The first floor bathroom has a door, shower, sink and flush toilet. The two bedrooms are up 3 foot scuttle hole stairway (see pics) where you may have to duck your head. The bedrooms are separated by a privacy curtain. They each have queen beds, with the larger bedroom has an additional single. The indoor bathroom has a shower with on-demand hot water, open concept living, dining and kitchen area that is fully stocked with dinnerware and silverware and items for your gourmet lobster/seafood/game meals. A wood stove or a gas heater with thermostat will take the chill off cool nights.
Access to the property is gained from a major rural road and then the gravel drive that winds up the mountain.
After a long day of sightseeing, have cocktails around the outdoor fire pit with only the stars above. Privacy and seclusion with locked gate. There is a field to put your reclining lawn chair to watch the meteor showers and Rustic outhouse for meditation. Plenty of parking.
The remote location may scare off some luxury seeking travelers, but true outdoor and nature lovers aren't deterred by being off grid. Bonuses for the rugged adventurers include unparalleled seclusion, amazing views, diverse wildlife and plant life, stunning night skies, rugged hiking, a spectacular sunset from on top of the mountain.
Guests will also enjoy access to miles upon miles of rarely traveled trails in the adjoining Great Pond Wilderness trust that abuts the property. Also take your kayak to Branch Lake across the street where there is ample areas for biking or walking. We now are offering use of our kayaks for your enjoyment of the surrounding ponds. We have kayaks (2 tandem, 2 singles) paddles and life vests. If you have a roof rack, that helps with easy transport. But with straps anything is possible.
Branch Lake state Park and boat ramp is down the mountain and 3 miles away for swimming and launching boats.
The cabin is an easy 35 minute drive to Acadia National Park (between Labor Day and Memorial Day) or a 25 minute trip to Bangor International Airport.
Due to COVID concerns
As of August 1, 2020 bookings , we will not be providing linens for the cabins. No bed sheets, no pillow cases, no blankets, no bedspreads, no towels, nor wash cloths. You will need to bring your own. We will provide the above linens for $30 a person by request.

When you use Airbnb, you are going to be staying in our personal beloved cabin. Not a motel where you make a reservation for # of guests, dates and pay. Please review our house rules. In order to book, you need to read and agree to them.
We realize some people do not care to meet the owners of the places they rent and prefer lock boxes for their holiday; however, we are not those people, we are actively involved in our places, we do our own work, and want to meet the people who stay in our cabin. Call us crazy, but we are old school, we like face to face.
Tell us who you are, who will be coming with you, what brings you to the area, special needs, if you have a pet, travel plans, etc. When booking, please include that information. If you send a request without it, I will now ask for it.

How to maximize your cabin experience by LB
Once you've passed "the way life should be" welcome sign on your right coming across the bridge into Maine, I would take the exit for Trader Joe's in Portland and stock up on vacation food/wine. My suggestion is to next stop and get supplies because we are located in a rural setting and stores are a 20 minute ride one way. There is good shopping at Brewer's Hannaford, and the GM Variety (locally known as Grandma's) in Holden is small/well stocked grocery....and famous for their whoopie pies and creme horns. Then, make your way to the cabin, because it is a beautiful day and you might not want to leave once you get here. I know I don't!
Cheers!
