Before booking, we asked the host if we can cancel our 23 night stay early if our home renovation finishes earlier. The host said yes and to give him 5 days notice to put the property back online. Fair. The backyard is unkempt with overgrown weeds. The duplex smelled like cat urine, there was a dirty sponge and unfilled dish soap at the rusty kitchen sink. The couches had many liquid stains and we felt like we were sitting on pee. The fridgeâs seal was undone so we were concerned about mold problems. The wifi wasnât working. The host was trying to fix the wifi problem, which was imperative for my husband to work. Being that we were recovering from COVID, we decided to leave and asked if anything can be done with the payment because we were only there for an hour. The host asked if it was fair to charge us 5 days and we agreed because we had already agreed to that at the initial inquiry. I also asked if he could take off the pet and cleaning fees, he said âyesâ. He contacted VRBO and told us that they are only letting him give 50% refund or no refund due to the cancelation policy that he chose. He gave us 50% because he said it didnât seem fair for no refund. I reminded him that he agreed to a 5 day paid before we booked and he denied that. We are writing this review because many of the other reviews of this property are not what we experienced. The host was very responsive, but overall, the duplex did not feel clean and more effort needed to be put into it.
