Sherm's Shack- A historical, family owned Saugatuck home.
Welcome to âShermâs Shackâ! Within the Historic District of Saugatuck, this 1874 farmhouse was where our parents enjoyed their retirement. Weâve had many great gatherings with friends and family, and invite you to have some here, too! The house is within walking distance from Saugatuckâs downtown shopping district and a short drive to beaches, including the cityâs famous Oval Beach. If you like to hike or bike, the beginning of the Saugatuck to Holland bike trail is just down the street.
âThe Shackâ has plenty of parking with a backyard big enough for games and cook-outs. We have chairs and yard games available.
Our fully furnished kitchen is great for preparing meals. The dining room is great for gatherings with family or friends. Or, if you prefer, take advantage of the many restaurants in town (The Southerner is a short walk across the street).
The master bedroom is on the first floor. Steps to the second floor may be challenging for people with mobility issues.
Sherm's Shack was lovely - the location is excellent (very much within walking distance to town, the shops, and restaurants), lots of parking, 4 season room with lots of windows, and loads of literature about the area! We were there when it was 90, so the upstairs got slightly warm, but box fans in addition to the ceiling fans did the trick. Several friends and I had a fabulous time!
This is a family home in a great location. The house was well organised and clean. All the appliances worked and the furnishings charming and comfortable.
Our family felt at home in this property
My husband and I, our dog, and a few friends had a great long weekend at the Shack! We love Saugatuck and have stayed a lot of different places and have now added this to our favorites list. It was very clean, quite roomy, and the location is perfect. And our dog loved it, too!
An older farm house with positive charm. Walking distance to town where loads of shopping and many Mom & Pop restaurants. We visit Saugatuck every year and glad we found this location.
A comfortable and convenient spot to stay while we explored and enjoyed Saugatuck. Lots of room for three adults and three teenagers with privacy when we needed it and a place upstairs for my grand daughter to practice her violin. Beautifully furnished and decorated with charm.
The house is a vintage property located within walking distance of downtown Saugatuck. Lots of space inside and outside. My only issue was that toaster oven. How do I get a warm English Muffin that is brown on both sides?! lol My dog loved it as well, and was over the top when the deer wandered into the yard. A great time was had by all, and Spot wants to go back :-)
We enjoyed this perfectly located home with plenty of space for our extended family reunion. The kitchen was very well equipped with even more dishes, pots, pans, and containers than we needed! The outdoor fire ring and ample seating allowed us to roast marshmallows and enjoy sâmores at sunset. We found ourselves walking to dinner in the heart of saugatuck often and the adjacent paved path allowed for great jogging in the morning or evening. We even walked to the chain ferry to visit mt baldy and avoided the parking and detour to oval beach, although it was worth the drive for a lovely morning yoga or fun beach day when the waves calmed a bit. The front porch was a wonderful spot to enjoy a quiet cup of coffee with unexpected deer walking through the yard!

Love the tien
Sherman shack is too far away from town to walk so every time you went to town you had to spend a lot of time looking for a parking place. The house was very nice except the stairs going up. Weâre very steep both bathrooms lacked a walk in shower. Stepping over a cloth tub was hard stepping over the upstairs. Bathroom was very hard to.. For that reason, we will not stay there again when we go back to Saugatuck, we will stay in town where you can just leave your room, our house and the town.
Best part is location. Can walk to Water Street where main drag is. Walk down 15 min. to the coffee shop next to bike shop. We enjoyed the older home in a upscale neighborhood. It reminded us of our homes growing up. Not fancy, just clean and more than enough room to be comfortable. If you can't go up steep stairs, this isn't for you. We had no problem going up and down FYI. Had a bonfire. Everything is in its place. Don't need to bring anything! They have all the toiletries, towels, kitchen extras like foil, baggies etc. AC was wonderful, sunroom off the main home to enjoy the sun and no AC. It was perfect for us and we would stay again here!
We had a great time at Sherm's shack. It is a beautiful house with everything a family could need, from baby to grandparents. Rain or shine, you'll be comfortable and entertained there. The location was very convenient. We could walk to the little shops and restaurants. Once we arrived, we could leave the car behind. Renee was easy to contact and very helpful. We will be back for sure.
We are a third generation family that has lived or vacationed in Saugatuck. Our extended family grew up in the Saugatuck/Douglas area and our parents retired here. Our kids (now all adults) enjoy Saugatuck and help with the house as well.
