• Two-story main house + adjacent cottage + bathhouse

• Main house downstairs has 1 bedroom w/ queen-size bed & adjacent bathroom, as well as outdoor bathtub on wrap around deck
• Main house upstairs has full kitchen, dining area, comfortable Twin XL Day Bed, and outdoor seating area on wrap around deck
• Cute cottage behind the house has queen-size bed
• Separate enclosed bathhouse with toilet, sink and hot shower
• Sweet backyard has outdoor picnic table, papaya trees, and flowers
• Fully equipped open kitchen and living area
• Fresh linens & towels provided

** Please note: the house is not completely toddler-friendly as there's a steep ladder connecting the two floors of the main house; we ask that Children be age 6 or older to stay here, thanks.

Guest Access: Prior to your arrival, you’ll receive a unique access code for a seamless and secure self-check-in experience. You'll have full access to the entire home, including all indoor and outdoor spaces. Parking space for 2 vehicles is available at the front of the house.

The Neighborhood: Our home is located in Kalapana, where wind, sky, new earth, and the Pacific Ocean converge. The neighborhood is quiet and private, ideal for those seeking solitude and a connection with nature. While it's best to use a car for getting around, you'll find unique attractions like black sand beaches and volcanic landscapes just a short drive away.

Getting Around: Due to the remote and private nature of the neighborhood, it's not ideal for walking around, and residents value their privacy. We recommend having a car to fully experience all that Kalapana and the surrounding areas have to offer.

Interaction With Guests: Considerate caretakers live nearby. If you have any questions or need assistance during your stay, please reach out, and we'll be available to help.

Other things to note:

Off-Grid Living: As we are off-grid and solar-powered, we ask guests to be conservative with power after dark. Please avoid leaving lights on all night and use the washing machine during daylight hours.

Nature Presence: You may encounter harmless geckos during your stay. They are considered good omens and add to the unique experience.

Privacy Respect: Our neighborhood values privacy and is not ideal for walking around. Please respect the tranquility of the area.

Unique Experience: If you're seeking a touristy, resort/hotel experience, this may not be the right fit. Hakuma House offers an elemental, off-the-beaten-path, and unique stay.

~ OPTIONAL ACTIVITY ~

Visit a Local Photographer's Studio: Nearby, there's an opportunity to visit a local photographer specializing in lava flow photography. Gain insights about Kilauea and enjoy a beautiful garden with fruit trees and edible plants. While there's no charge for his time, his exquisite photographs are available for purchase, and optional donations are appreciated.

Please note, that in accordance with the Law, the following taxes will be charged:

By booking this home, you are agreeing to the following house rules:

- No pets.
- No smoking inside the house.
- This is a residential neighborhood and neighbors like their peace and quiet, as well as their starry nights.
Please respect our Quiet Hours from 9pm-8am.
And please do not leave outside lights on for too long.

- Also we are off-grid, so please try to be more conservative with power and water after dark. (Go ahead and charge all your devices, but don't leave fans or lights on all night long).

- If you would like an EARLY CHECK IN / LATE CHECK OUT please let us know at least 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE and we will try to accommodate you -- If we are able to change things around to accommodate your request, please note that there will be a convenience charge of $20 per hour that that we are able to give early / late. We will request this via airbnb request.
