Hillside Hideaway - country elegance at it's best, by Buffalo Mountain Getaway
What sets this cabin apart is its unique character and history. The creaky wood floors and original lead glass windows bring an old-world charm to the space. You can gather around the large stone fireplace in the living room or relax on the wraparound porch with a picturesque view of the historic Cockram Mill pond. Fun fact: this pond was once circled by the Dan River Queen.
Every detail has been carefully considered to ensure your stay is nothing short of perfect. The floors and wood walls are original, giving this home a truly authentic feel. And with new appliances, dishes, and fluffy towels, you'll have all the modern comforts you need. The fully stocked kitchen has service for eight and the dining room table can comfortably seat six to eight guests.
We only spent a night but wish it could have a been a week. The cabin is nestled into a green valley on a nice sized pond with beavers and frogs. It was exceptionally clean and well appointed, with plenty of room for our family of five. Clean communication from the host. Can't wait to return.
This was such a relaxing and refreshing time together as a family. The written directions upon booking were very helpful to locate the cabin. The space was very poet and kid friendly- the board games were a nice touch. We will definitely stay again if we are back in the area.
Beautiful restoration of an older home. Very comfortably decorated. Great communication from the owners, and I loved that they stock milk and OJ in the fridge along with cereal and coffee. Lots of board games to play. WiFi is decent and was good enough to stream a movie, though apparently it can be spotty (nothing abnormal for the mountains). Cell service was ok with VZ.
The property grounds are great. Unfortunately, we had a cold snap with snow, so we didnât get to spend as much time outside as we would have liked. But I would have loved to sit on the porch with a cup of coffee in the morning looking at the pond.
The bed was incredibly comfy. I will say that if you bring kids, the sleeping arrangement can be tough. The bunk beds are super low and right outside the main bedroom. You have to pass through to get to the downstairs (bathroom location). The house sits right off of the highway, pretty far below it. I only noticed trucks passing a few times, but itâs something to consider if you are a light sleeper.
The pluses easily outweigh the issues, though, and I would happily return for a long weekend.
My husband and our grown kids came up for a family Thanksgiving with relatives in the area. We had a little adventure getting the gas fireplace lit, but got really good support from the POC and got cozy quickly. The stairs do have the low ceiling as described, but my daughterâs 6â8â friend was able to get up and down w/o issue. The induction burner in the kitchen and quality cookware was a pleasant surprise. Overall, we had a lovely visit.
Tucked away in the mountains, this quaint, absolutely adorable cabin sits, with several other cabins in sight. This cabin is the last on road, so extremely private. The only complaint is the road noise. Sitting on the wonderful porch, watching the beaver play in the water, and truck & car noises break the magic.
Wonderful touches in cabin & great communication with host.
Labels on switches, remotes etc would be helpful.
What an amazing little pice of history yet all of the comfy amenities you want on a getaway. Communication was nothing short of exceptional, bed was super comfy, towels were plush, the decor was a dream for us!! We will most definitely be back and this will def be one our favorite places to revisit in the future!
We stayed 3 days and nights at this wonderfully located cabin. Everything was AS ADVERTISED. WiFi, air conditioning, fire pit, dog friendly, private pond access...everything. We had such a good time watching our dog play in the open yard while we drank tea, and coffee on the porch. Gorgeous views of the sunset over the pond, which is quite an experience. Overall my wife and I were very pleased, and even overly surprised about how accommodating the house was. Will indeed book again in the future.
Very quaint cabin nearly 100 years old. Decorated very nicely. Great assortment of games. We loved playing scrabble and uno. Too much to do to watch tv. There is one but we never turned it on. We caught fish in the pond - bass and bream. The head clearance on the stairs to the beds is VERY tight. This is noted on the listing. Iâm 5â8â and going up ducking a bit is fine. More challenging going down. Cabin is close to the main road but the noise is very very mild. Super convenient to blue ridge parkway (loved Mabryâs mill) and meadows of Dan. Great for our short getaway.
This little cabin is beautiful! The view was amazing!! When we arrived they had the fireplace going and it was so cozy inside! The beds was soft and the bunk beds was a hit! The kids played board games they had in the cabin! The next morning we watched 2 foxes outside the cabin walk away across the still frozen pondâŠit was a cool experience!!! We really enjoyed this home! I highly recommend you try it !!!
We really enjoyed our stay at this beautifully furnished and tastefully decorated as well as very clean cabin. The lovely touches like coffee, juice, milk, cereal, and messages on the chalk board were so welcoming! The view from the front windows was breathtaking. The road to the cabin from highway 58 was a bit bumpy and we were surprised that the highway was actually just up the hill from the place. But we soon got used to the sounds of the vehicles going by. Make sure to bring groceries with you as there arenât many places to eat nearby. We did enjoy eating at Janeâs Restaurant and grabbing sandwiches at Poor Farmerâs Market though. Fairy Stone State Park is about 30 minutes away and we enjoyed kayaking on the lake as well as going on some of the trails. The Blue Ridge Parkway is very close and a visit to Floyd, VA is well worth the trip. We so enjoyed our vacay here!
Built in the 1920's, this rustic cabin will surprise you. The cabin has all the comforts of home, with all that you might expect from a 1920's cabin. You'll love the porch and the pond and all the trails to explore. Come visit us!
