We had a fabulous stay and look forward to returning next spring. Shannon was very helpful and accommodating! The location was perfect, cabin was cozy... loved the front & back porch! Beautiful sunsets from the front porch. The pond and creek are worth the walk. Great spot on the Map to relax and take in the what the area has to offer.
We played 3 days of golf at some courses fairly local and this property seemed to be the best location to accommodate our drives. All who stayed enjoyed the time spent
Quaint cabin full accommodations, cozy, yet spacious. Beautiful covered deck in back. It rained but didnât ruin our family cookout, gas grill under covered deck. Lush trees all around. It was awesome.
Beautiful cabin, even nicer than in the pics. We loved spending time down by the creek/pond. Fairy Stone Park was a 20 min. drive, and we enjoyed getting breakfast at Crossroad Cafe. I would love to come back in the winter.
We spent four days and three nights. We were working our way down the Shenandoah and Blue Ridge and spent a few days in the area. I've been in the area a lot in years past but not recently. Was great to be in the area again. The house was a great jumping off location for our days activities. The house was as listed and the owner is very kind and responsive if you want/need to touch base. There were only two of us so the house was way more than we needed, but we enjoyed the space and our time here, and only wish we'd taken longer to enjoy the area.
Very relaxing spot and very quiet. When you sat on the back porch you would think you were in the very middle of the 27 acres. We saw a lot of wildlife; baby bobcat, foxes, rabbits and deer. Everything worked well. Husband was excited to fish and caught a couple of bass and brim.
The cabin was clean, cozy and comfortable. Decorated beautifully . Only about ten miles away from Fairy Stone State Park. We walked down to the large pond and the stream below the cabin. You can see both sunrise and sunset from the cabin. The host, Shannon was very helpful and delightful to talk with.
Thank you for a great vacation! The log cabin and the property were amazing. It was so relaxing and the cabin was very clean. We loved sitting on the front and back porches. The neighbors were so friendly. The Mountain Viewâs were incredible. This was a perfect place to relax and unwind. We hope to come back in the spring. I highly recommend this place!!
This property was nice. It was not cleaned before we got there, though. There was dog hair everywhere and just clumps of it in the middle of the floor. No trash bags in the entire house. The shower upstairs does not work. The property itself was nice and the property manager was great. This property is in the middle of nowhere, but that's to be expected. Overall it was a fun trip. I would stay there again if I was in the area. Housekeeping needs some work.
there are some japanesse hornets around the lights. we had to buy wasp spray. you must have a large hive under ground near. nice and quiet, enjoyed the walk to the pond.thank you for letting us stay
All but 2 of the group came down with Covid and didnât make trip, but the 2 of us had great time. Very relaxing sitting on porch. 1/2 hour to Floyd which we loved. Never caught fish in pond but had fun trying. Place was not easy to find at night but we eventually did. It is very remote.
The cabin is as described. Shannon was very easy to work with and responsive. The beds were pretty comfortable. There is room in the upstairs bedroom to add an air mattress for more people. This is as much "in the sticks" as any city person would want. Roads are crazy curvy but paved. The pond and creek "down the hill" are more like down the mountain. What a hike back up! The back yard is a small flat area that you wouldn't want to miss your ball if playing volleyball or pickle ball as it will roll down the mountain. Beautiful countryside. And it's Virginia weather in the summer, so super hot and humid which was to be expected. Good A/C. Wood Brothers Museum worth the trip if you are a race fan. The Gordon Trent golf course was severely lacking!

Short Stay at Smith River
Older house - but very nice. Lovely breeze while sitting on the front porch swing. Main floor back deck (covered and uncovered) was great. Outside ceiling fan would make it perfect.
States 3 bathrooms - but the basement bathroom was a little creepy for the grandkids. We managed well with the other 2 bathrooms.
Bring your own toilet paper and trash bags (only half a roll in 2 of the bathrooms) (only 1 additional trash bag found in the island).
Lovely quiet neighborhood.
Read some complaints about the main floor bed - we thought it was fine.
The Howery Family
We didn't want to leave. The cabin is beautiful, the location was beautiful, quiet ,all you can hear are the birds singing. No traffic. All you can see is trees from each window. Kitchen has everything you need to make meals. There are three beds to choose from, you will find one to meet your comfort. The gas grill was ready to cook homemade pizza and steak kabobs. Tv was there, but didn't need it, we were there to enjoy nature. We did encounter bear down at the pond between it and the creek. He scared us as much as we scared them. Thank you for sharing your beautful home. We will definitely be back!
Pictures doesnât do this cabin justice! We enjoyed our weekend and it exceeded our expectations. The space was clean and well kept. The walk to the pond was great exercise. We caught a few fish as well. Highly recommended
Peaceful and beautiful! Enjoyed some hammock time and sounds of nature. Took a walk to the pond; it was so beautiful. The cabin had every thing we needed to make our stay comfortable and safe. The neighbor hood is very nice.
Great trip! Relax & renew in a quiet rural area was our goal & exactly what we got. Everything was as described in listing. BEST sheets ever! Some furniture was a bit dusty but didn't bother us. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. We would definitely stay again.
Family Cabin built in 1992 the rocks constructing the chimney and around the perimeter of the home were collected and laid by hand by members of the family a large portion of the construction was done with family labor, the property is named after my grandmother.
