3 bedroom home in the heart of historic Capitol Hill
Stay in a beautifully appointed historic 1890 built home in the center of Capitol Hill--one of the country's most iconic neighborhoods. The house is steps to the metro, historic Eastern Market and around the corner from many of DC's best restaurants on Barrack's Row. The three bedroom artfully decorated home is furnished from Restoration Hardware, Crate and Barrel and Room and Board.
Although this home has a nice feel and the owners are polite and respond promptly, the unit itself needs work. I chose this home over others because of the pictures and amenities. As it turns out, the bathroom with the tub could not be used as the paint was peeling off the bottom of the tub. The shower in the primary bathroom is very small as is the bathroom itself. The shower head is way too high and the water pressure wasnât good. The toilet had little water and you must wait a bit between flushes. The 3rd bedroom was extremely hot. The owners brought an additional fan on our last night, but should have in the beginning . They were aware of the issue from check in. Smoke alarms ( in bedrooms) went off in the middle of the night on 3 occasions. The owner promptly changed batteries, but this should be done on a regular basis to ensure guests arenât startled awake. The refrigerator light was burned out all week. :It was also uncomfortable to see condoms and other peoples junk in the nightstand drawer. Attention to detail before check in of guests is not the best. The price we paid would have been high even for a luxury experience. This was far from luxury. It was average at best,
Clean, great location. Metro stop, Eastern Market, and Trader Joe's just a short walk away, plus all of the restaurants on Barracks Row one street over. Very easy to navigate the rest of the city from this location.
We couldnât have asked for a better location or home. This 130 year-old house in Capitol Hill was full of charm and character, just about a 2-3 minute walk to/from the Metro, making it close to everything. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The parking permit was also greatly appreciated. We loved the historic touches and would absolutely stay here again!
We had a great visit at this beautiful, historic home. It is in a very safe neighborhood and within walking distance to a lot of restaurants and groceries. Recommend it!!!
Good communications with owner. Able to park on 7th in front of the home and get a parking pass from my sister located close by. About a mile walk to the Capitol and half a block to the metro. Lots of food and drink options on 8th. A Trader Joe's a block away. Perfect for two couples and two children.
Great location, cool old row house and a kitchen that had all we needed for our family DC trip. Very close to walk to Trader Joeâs, lots of restaurants and the metro. Our host go us set up with a street parking pass which was great as the site does not have off street parking. Safe neighborhood parks a quick walk away as well. The house had ann interesting array of books and a few games the kids played with ( 9yr and 12yr old boys). Note this is a cool, old historic house so expect some of the expected items such as noise traveling through the house and doors that didnât always line up to lock (also there was an another unit below us, so we were self conscious about the noise our kids caused. Was unsure about the insulation between units.). Seemed to not be a problem to stick to the quiet time policy.
This well appointed home is in a safe, quiet neighborhood. Its proximity to restaurants, coffee shops and markets makes it ideal for any traveler. The house is clean and has a great kitchen. I would return here in a heartbeat ! The owners answered any question I had in a timely manner .
We stayed here for 7 night for spring break. It's super close to the Metro "subway". I was kinda worried about using the subway, but it was very clean and safe. The host was very easy to contact. The rental is nice and clean. The building itself is old but the paint and everything is fresh with nice decorations. It even has the old fashion door knobs. I remember seeing these on my grandparents house back in the 80s. The neighborhood is very safe. We walked several blocks from the rental a few times and never had any issues. I'm leaving 5 stars on everything but here are a couple negatives if I had to find something negative. 1) The floors squeeze because the building is old. Some people might like this but we weren't use to it. 2) The parking is very limited. The host does provide a free parking permit but you may end up parking a few blocks away if you aren't lucky to find something close. If I had it to do over, I wouldn't rent a car in DC since you can take the Metro from the airport to this rental and then the Metro to pretty much all the other major sites you want to go to.I would highly recommend staying here. A
The property and location are great and it is easy to find a parking spot in front of the property. The owner was very helpful and responded quickly. I would definitely stay here again.
There was strong smell of gas in the kitchen on Thursday morning and we also smelled it more lightly this morning.
The floor boards were loud and woke up people at night when we would get up to use the bathroom
My group of friends wanted a place to stay close to the DC action, where we could sit and talk at night after our day of exploring as well as make breakfast in the morning and have our coffee.
This house checks all the boxes as it is beautifully decorated, the beds are very comfortable, kitchen is very functional and the location couldnât be beat.
Itâs a block from a row of restaurants and bars. As well as a small grocery store.
We walked in for a tour of the Capital/Whitehouse and museums. On our last day we walked to the train stopping for breakfast.
I love the art, the books, the furniture and lighting.
This house felt like an upscale hang out.
Rita was super quick and responsive and taking care of any of our needs
The property is beautiful. Itâs in a great location for walking to restaurants and sights seeing. We were also in town for a football game and this is a great location to have maybe a 30 min ride to the football game, 30 min to airport and great walkable neighborhood! Would absolutely stay here again.
We live in a 1907 home and have great appreciation for the joy and quirks of an old home. Rita's home holds this history too but has been upgraded in a way to maximize comfort. The home is beautiful and well equipped. It is also in the perfect location for traveling around DC and the surrounding area. There are countless places to visit on foot and its proximity to the Metro is simply unrivaled. We would love to stay again and recommend without reservation.
The location is perfect, the hosts very nice and responsive, the WiFi is excellent, itâs on a beautiful street close to the subway and the beds are comfortable with the softest sheets Iâve ever felt. I would stay here again.
Rita was an amazing host. The house was beautiful and had everything we could have needed and more! The house was conveniently located, just a short walk to the capitol. We wished we could have stayed longer than one night to fully use all of the amenities!
I am a journalist married to a diplomat. We have lived all around the world, particularly the Middle East and South Asia. When we are back in the US, we call Capitol Hill home and we are passionate about our neighborhood.
It is a rare opportunity to stay in a home that has so much history, is walking distance to so many of America's most important tourist sites, including the Capitol Building and National Mall.
