Overall, we had a great time here.. I do agree with some that there wasn't enough furniture in the living room for the size of the room but we just grabbed the bean bags from the lower level. The first day there we say a couple deer wandering between us and the house near the road, pretty cool. They supplied plenty of towels, etc.. so no need to worry as there was also a washer/dryer upstairs.
Pros: You can tell the owner/manager has been trying to renovate the property which I appreciate, tons of beds, good central location. Cons: no central A/C, little to no fans available- it was 85 degrees in the second floor, no airflow, most windows could not be opened, bugs were getting in through the screens, owner was unresponsive in helping us with our issue. The owner/manager was very prompt in refunding us when we were able to get ahold of them. Again, great spot if youâre having a bachelor party or something.
I was initially hesitant to book because of the remote description, but the property was really lovely and spacious-with plenty of room to accommodate our extended family. It was easy to get to off highway and the windows looking out onto the greenery was so peaceful. A few suggestions were relayed to management co-to improve future stays-The hot water in basement room downstairs was inconsistent going super hot to cold, and some of the included utensils-broken wine opener, grimy potholders/sticky bake sheets, etc could use a refresh.
Gathered with family for celebration of life.
House has Safety Issues, dirty, not operating appropriately, water and screens on windows, stovetop. There were so many items it is hard to list. We called property management immediately and were told sorry that the house was not up to your standards.
SAFTY ISSUES: 1) Rat/Mouse feces under the kitchen sink with old previously wet paper towels not cleaned. 2) Skylight windows open with seating area below where children can climb on and out to VERY STEEP roof. 3) Railing on deck rotted with 15 foot drop. 4) Dryer vent clogged. 5) staircase railing to bottom floor is breaking
DIRTY: Again under sink dirty rat or mouse feces, oven filthy, refrigerator leaks yellow goo that dried in the bottom of the fridge, freezer was dirty, floors and window sills dirty. Bathrooms were ok and beds were made however trash near the washer and dryer was full. Linens seemingly thrown in the closet so we didnât know if they were clean or dirty.
Not operational: 1) Missing screens on upstairs bedrooms so could not open to let in cool air without letting in all the bugs. 2) Could not open skylight window due to safety issue and no screens. 3)Hot water was pretty much non existent for showers maybe one and a half minutes before no hot/warm water 4) ping pong table had no net and the only balls were broken .. we left some there. 4) Not enough fans for rooms so we bought a couple to use in addition to the ones they had there.
The house was perfect for 10 guys taking a weekend away to play golf. The house was huge and had everything we needed. The location is in the woods which was perfect for us as we wanted to be isolated from any neighbors. Everything described in the listing was accurate. We would definitely stay there again!
I took a group of 17 up to stay for a week in Maine while we put on a kids camp. We were told the property had air conditioning but upon arrival found that it did not. Typically this wouldnât have been a big deal in Maine but it was an unusually hot week. Temperatures regularly ran in the 80s in the house as the outside temps were in the mid 90s. Nights that it dropped down into the 60s it was manageable but needed constant air circulation. The hot water heater is very small so many showers were cold but that did help with the heat in the house. With the lack of ventilation windows constantly had to be open except at night so bugs progressively became an issue but not too major. Many of the tables and chairs in the house were unstable so we opted for the floors and couches most often or just sat on beds to avoid breaking anything and incurring charges. There was no broom except a brillow padded push broom which didnât catch much so cleaning throughout the week was difficult. No skillets in the kitchen forced us to borrow from friends in the area. We also had to buy an additional box fan because there werenât enough for each room.
All in all this place could be great if renovations were finished and basic cleaning, kitchen and air flow supplies were provided. The deck was beautiful, the house was spacious but it needs work and the ac issue was really difficult to deal with but could have been alleviated by cooler weather. Personally I wouldnât stay there again.
I highly discourage anyone from renting this property!!!
Communication was terrible on their part. I arranged for an early check in at 2:30. However, when I arrived there was no power at the house whatsoever. No one was answering my messages for quite some time. I ended up calling the electric company myself and they pinged the house so we could have electricity. Iâm not sure if the bill was even paid. We didnât get electricity until about 6pm!!
The house had minimal pots, pans, cutlery/utensils.
The garbage disposal didnât work and got backed up. The dishwasher smelled of mildew. There was also mice feces under the kitchen sink.
Perfect location for my sisterâs bachelorette party. House was very nice and well maintained and perfect distance for getting into Portland for some fun.
We stayed here for a bach party and it worked great for our large group. Definitely recommend bringing warm weather PJs in the upstairs bedrooms, no AC makes it quite toasty in the summer months. The fans provided were helpful.
The house was big and in a remote area. The outside was not maintained in the grass areas and the deck is starting to rock and weeken. The inside needs to be updated everything is old but functioning
Very spacious home with lots of room to play board games in one section, ping pong in another, video games in another, and eat a snack at the high top to watch it all! We came up for a family wedding and our part of the family all got to stay together! So fun for a larger family to spend time together in a great part of Maine.
Great house for hosting and proximity to Portland!
Overall my friends and I were satisfied with our stay. The positives: great location, less than 15min drive to downtown Portland and a beautiful surrounding. The host was communicative and allowed us to check in early which was very helpful! There was a laundry machine for us to use as well.
Neutral points: which we were fully aware of was that there is no AC in the house and it did get quite warm in some of the rooms. The host did provide fans but on the days it was over 80 degrees, AC wouldâve been ideal. Another thing is, the kitchen is very nice! But it wouldâve been helpful if the kitchen was supplied with some cooking oil, paper towels, and other spices. Just the basics.
Needs improvements: Oof, cleanliness was definitely an issue. There was leftover clothing possibly from a previous owner in one room and the bathrooms didnât look clean.
The price is affordable and we donât regret staying here at all! Generally a positive experience.
Our stay was okay but certain things I wish could have been different. The sinks did not drain properly, specifically the kitchen sink which had to be plunged. Owner did offer to send someone to take care of sink but we ended dealing with ourselves because we had early plans. All of the windows should have had screens but some did not, which unfortunately resulted in bugs getting inside. We could feel the heat coming out of the vents in the floor but had no way to turn it off since thermostats were on lowest setting. Overall, the house was adequate for what we needed it for but could have been better if there was A/C and more cleanliness in certain areas.
This house was adequate for our family, but I cannot recommend it to others.
First, the owner furnished it with the minimum necessary to make the photos look good online. It's a large place, but not enough furniture to make it comfortable, particularly given the number of guests that the listing says it will accommodate.
Second, communicating with the owner was difficult. He was slow to respond to our messages prior to our stay.
Third, the owner did not seem to be staying on top of basic maintenance. Lightbulbs were out throughout, there were ants everywhere, trash was strewn outdoors upon our arrival, and a floor board on the steps is loose.
Fourth, the upstairs bedrooms are very stuffy and uncomfortable. We were there during a relatively cool summer weekend, but the rooms were stifling hot. There is no a/c and the windows barely open.
Lastly, the location is not ideal. While the setting is pretty, the property backs up to I-295. The highway noise is quite loud.
Given how much we paid, we deserved a better experience.
We had a wonderful time visiting with our friends in the open living area and the kids LOVED the indoor cornhole, darts and ping pong! Very clean and had everything we needed!!
