Historic Shankle Ranch in Tubac, AZ

The Historic Shankle Ranch, including an airstrip and hanger for their Stearman J-5 and Lockheed Sirus, was built in 1930 by Dutch & Joan Shankle, both prominent national aviators and in the Arizona Aviation Hall of Fame. While the airstrip, hanger, and planes are gone, what remains is a serene, beautiful, gated historic ranch home with gorgeous views of Mt. Wrightston, hiking and birding along the Santa Cruz River, minutes from spas, golf, tennis, and the Historic Village of Tubac, AZ “Where Art & History Meet", and 2021 and 2022 winner of USA Today 10Best "Best Small Town Arts Scene". Tubac offers numerous art galleries, quaint shops, fantastic restaurants, live music, and an opportunity to explore the history of Southern Arizona at the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park and the Tumacacori National Historic Park. Tubac, AZ is truly the greatest hidden gem in the Southwest!

Amazing Place

We were looking for a place to bring in family for our mom's 80th birthday. We wanted something with character and more than just a house. This ranch has history and charm and is the perfect place to get away, relax and explore. Sherry and Sarah are great hosts and they take great pride in their property. This isn't just a rental to them, it is a place they love and want to share the history and experience with everyone that stays there.

Second Stay at this Amazing Property

Love this place, provides sufficient space indoors and out for a large family. The home is perfectly clean and well equipped with all you can need. After an amazing stay last year we chose to come back and truly enjoyed our time here. Host are responsive and clear with check in instructions!

We had an incredible experience staying here and hosted a beautiful reception dinner for our wedding. We couldn’t be happier with Sarah and Sherry - this place is deeply beautiful, with history and gorgeous furnishings. Couldn’t recommend it more.

Family Retreat

Host met us at the property and gave us a full tour. Property lacks nothing. Great retreat for the family while attending a wedding celebration in Tubac. Views are stunning. We saw deer and a bobcat! My favorite memory will be early morning sitting in the great room with the fireplace roaring, a good book and a hot cup of coffee.

Girls trip

Every year we go on a girls trip, this year there were 7 women all retired and live in same neighborhood, we planned it around the Tubac fair. It exceeded our expectations, it was so beautiful, we all had our own bedroom! Everything was wonderful, the furnishing are so beautiful, I give it 5+++stars all around!!

Awesome Home for Large Group

This home is amazing. The furniture alone is an experience worth exploring every day. Sherry was great about addressing any questions or needs we had. The house was very clean. The location is great for exploring the area. We were close to golf courses and had a wonderful time with friends and would definitely stay again.

Family Reunion

This was the perfect property for our family reunion. The ranch has so many bedrooms and so much space. Everyone was able to spread out and find their quiet time too. The workout room downstairs was a real bonus. The outdoor area is beautiful and amazing for walking and relaxing. The pool was great. This is a real gem in the heart of magical Tubac.

35th annual guy trip and friendly competition

In 35 years of having our annual "guy trip and bonding experience" the Historic Shankle Ranch, has to rank in the top 3 of places we've stayed. The photos on the website don't do justice to the ranch. & great bedrooms with a pool in the middle of it all made for a perfect location that was at the same time, very private and yet open to the views of the cattle and the mountains to the east. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Ultimate Peaceful Venue

We are a group of friends who have been meeting to meditate together for decades. This was clearly a favorite venue as it was remote and pastoral. The owner Sherry was incredibly responsive to any concerns or needs we had like additional kitchen items. We definitely plan to make this venue an annual gathering.

Amazing!

This property is beautiful! We had our family stay here and were blown away by the beautiful house, the abundant space, and the hospitality of the hosts. This is literally the perfect place to get family together. We rented the treehouse too and it was so cool! The hosts were so accommodating and flexible with us and were super friendly! The pool, hot tub, beautiful views, and luxurious home just made our weekend perfect. Can’t recommend this place enough!

Class for treatment of trauma …mind, Body, Spirit

From beginning to end this beautiful property and Ranch house supported us in doing deep healing. The amenities were fabulous. Each person had an incredible experience made possible by this beautiful property from walks outside to the pond mindfulness walks, dipping our feet in the pool to cool off and relax, it was amazing. The owner was available and met all of our needs perfectly. I love the historic Shankle Ranch.

Can't wait to go back someday!

WOW. A beautiful and welcoming property perfect for a family gathering or reunion. We had a small wedding ceremony at the ranch with our family all staying in the ranch. It was a dream come true! The property manager, Sarah, lives across the street and was there for anything we needed. Cant wait to go back for our anniversary in the future!

We rented the main Ranch House as part of a large group gathering that occupied all three dwelling units at Shankle Ranch for a few days. I feel like words fail a bit to communicate the peace, beauty, and graciousness of this special place. If it's possible to feel taken care of by a house... by a place... this place does that. This, beautiful, old, elegant guest ranch offers a perfect balance of solitude and spaces for warm community... luxury and simplicity... grandeur and humbleness. It is really amazing. Hosts are the kindest, most gracious people. Near the wonderful village of Tubac, but absolutely surrounded by the peace of endless nature.

Perfect for a large family gathering

We stayed at Shankle with all the extended family in tow, and ended up with all three properties on site for a nearby wedding. It was perfect! Enough room to prepare food, socialize, relax, enjoy, and the view was amazing! We fell in love with the property and would recommend it highly.

Wonderful family reunion weekend!

We celebrated our father's 90th birthday and our parents' 65th wedding anniversary at Shankle Ranch. We rented the main house and the Tree House. There were 15 of us, ages ranging from 26 to 90. The house had everything we needed - rooms, space, great kitchen stocked with everything for our group size, pool, pool table, yoga mats and small weights, lawn games and board games, pool towels, etc. We cooked in 3 nights and had lovely dinners on the patio. Check in and out went smoothly. Views were amazing!

Picturesque Tranquility

Our group has gathered at Shankle Ranch a number of times now, because it is amazing. It's difficult to put the gracious, gentle, relaxed beauty of the place into words. The hosts, Sherry and Sarah, are the epitome of genuine kindness and hospitality, and the land, sky, and guest ranch itself are absolutely gorgeous. It is a healing place to be.
