San Marcos River Cabin/ Property - Fentress , - on the river
Looking to get away from the crowds? Want a true vacation? Enjoy this one of a kind "Cabin" nestled on the San Marcos river surrounded by trees and wildlife.. Enjoy and play in the scenic river or spend your nights by the campfire stargazing. Small above ground pool to help battle the Texas heat. Perfect for a family or group of friends to enjoy some peace and quiet or to use as a home base to prior to visiting dozens of local attractions. Float, swim, fish, or sit in your lawn chairs in the year round 72 degree river temperatures. ( access the river via a ladder and sand bar landing for now) Located 10 minutes from Lockhart, 35 minutes from historic Gruene Hall, 40 minutes from Austin Airport, 45 minutes to San Antonio, 10 minutes to Luling, 15 minutes to San Marcos, 35 minutes to New Braunfels. It is certainly in the country and thus risks of wildlife interaction is possible. Herds of deer are aplenty. Due to steep banks and remoteness of the property, it may not be the best option for small children. It's not for everyone, but it may be just right for you and your guests.
Enjoyed the stay. Clean and Comfortable accommodations and great amenities. We enjoyed the pool and the backyard. Recommended for those looking to get away from the hustle of the city. It was peaceful and quiet. Look forward to getting out there again soon
The family and I stayed here for a few days. The cabin is very nice and cozy. We loved the layout especially the loft for the kiddos. Right on the river and nice area to just sit and chill.
The host sent a message about local things to try which was awesome. Nice gentleman rents tubes just down the road. It's a very quiet and relaxing area.
We stayed at the cabin in April. The cactus and wildflowers were blooming. There were plenty of deer, turkeys, armadillos, amd other wildlife to enjoy. It is a peaceful place out in the country on the river which I completely enjoyed.
Was a cozy place with a great view of the river. Enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the country. Mother nature at it's best. Saw deers and armadillos.
Was nice that i could take my dog. He enjoyed exploring the landscape. Would definitely stay again!!!
This cabin was great for our weekend away. Fishing was great & the cabin was cozy! We played games on the back patio afterdark and had a beautiful light show from the lightening bugs. The location was perfect for some quiet family time together on the river. Would rent again!
This place was an efficient and neat use of the space. Loved the barn doors and decor. My kids loved the loft space. We enjoyed the river once we found out it wasn't too deep. Pretty quiet and nice outdoor space to chill in.
Joe was so responsive and kind to communicate with. We came to TX to visit family and hog hunt! We enjoyed our stay and it was perfect location and being able to sit outside and have a few drinks around the fire!
Overall awesome stay. The pictures in the listing do not do it justice! The cabin is very cute and the view is awesome. The cabin could have been cleaner, and getting in the river at the house is a bit difficult as mentioned in the listing. We also went to the guy down the road to rent tubes as mentioned in the listing and it was PERFECT!!!
We had an awesome stay!
We came to Luling for the Thump and my husbandâs high school reunion. We thought it would be fun to stay on the river - it brought back a lot of memories for my husband.
You have to keep in mind this is a rustic, river cabin. The cabin was unique and had great decor. It had everything we needed for our stay.
Me and my family absolutely loved this place! The pictures do not do it justice, it is far more beautiful in person. The kids absolutely adored the loft room, they felt like they were in a castle tower. Everyone had a blast in the pool, it was the perfect height for the kids, not too deep but enough that they could splash around a bit. The river was gorgeous and we enjoyed sitting around the firepit gazing at it. There was an old swingset out there that has some potential if someone would clean it up a bit. We all had an amazing time and would love to come back sometime!
It was great. We understand upgrades are being done and that wasnt a problem. We definitely plan on going back, looking forward to see the improvements that are going to be made.
Cons-cleanliness, no oven, 2 ranges to cook on, not equipped for handicap people, kitchen area is very tight
Pros-super close to Amigos Company for floating, rooms were cool, pool is nice, not too far from other attractions/restaurants, porch was nice, wifi, TV
This place was definitely not worth $300+ per night. The rooms were clean although too many spiders. The kitchen had ants, no real oven and a very small sink . The bathroom shower needs improvement with plumbing. The pool was clean. The pavilion had a water leak. There is no access to the river from the property. The air conditioner in the main bedroom doesn't work well. This place needs work.
Hard location to enjoy the river. Not very secure. Place was dirty, dusty and nor enough mugs for coffee. We were 4 people and only 2 mugs. Had to message also to bring extra toilet paper. We arrived a Tuesday i was told pool gets clean Tuesday and it was really dirty. Very old beds and uncomfortable. Burner to prep food is 2 burners that you can only use one at time. Kitchen too small. Table only for 2 Not to mention the shower head is veery bad and splash water all over. Very hard to shower for a 5â4 woman I wonât rent this location again. Did not enjoy it at all. Fill not feel my expectations.
First time using VRBO or staying in someones home instead of renting a hotel, have to say it may be a repeat. The home was in a remote area yet still close to town. I live in houston where it takes 30-45 mins just to go to the grocery store, so the 20 min drive into town was convenient. The home was perfect size for me and my gang, and so cute. There was a little bit of dust bunnies throughout and could use a little deep cleaning (baseboards, ceilings, walls, windows, shelves) but overall clean. I enjoyed the extra outdoor entertainment options (pool, firepit, swing, river). I would love to go back with more family and even friends because it was perfect. Already planning the next trip and where I will be buying my peice of paradise to emdulge. đ Landlord was also very informative with directions and notes in home were helpful. Could use some additional outdoor lighting near the pool area, and possibly pest control for the wasps and wasp nest in the headlight (no light bulb) above pool. Aside from the minor things, loved it!
We only stayed one of the two nights.
The pool they advertised was not accessible in the fact that it only had 3/4th water and was not clean nor was the pump running.
Inside was a different story. Found a dirty sock under a bed, loft had a large black spider and was creepy, shower/water had barely any pressure, window units where full of dust, large black spiders in the home, dish sponges dirty, only able to us one camping style burner at a time, live scorpion in a cup located in the kitchen, wasp in the home, and much more.
After a day in the town, we came back with the intentions of cooking dinner before hitting the showers for a very long wait between the 4 of us (due to water pressure) to find the griddle we were going to use was not only dirty with dead bugs on it but the grease trap stink, full of old grease, and had maggots.
Upon this discovery, we no longer felt that we could sleep the last night there, and ended up getting a hotel in town for a fresh shower.
We were not able to use the one door the owner asked us to use because there was a wasp nest with wasp flying all around the patio light. Upon trying to place the key back in its location, there was a scorpion.
Was one of the worst experiences I have ever had. We went by all of the review, pictures before accepting, and was not what we were expecting at all.
Location was perfect and peaceful!!!
It was a very nice place to stay. Only downside was electricity and water stopped working for hours after a storm came through. Would be nice to have a stove as well and better water pressure, but overall it was good
Nicely located and cosy cabin by San Marcos river.
Many birds including turkeys. Squirrels and deer seen every day in the area.
Recommended for other guests looking for nature and quiet surroundings.
We enjoyed our week in the cabin
