Lovely Stay

Lovely stay from first communications with Lynda our gracious hostess to our arrival with a big hug & apples from their apple tree (so delicious) that Charley our host greeted us with. The location was perfect with easy access to vineyards. Great bike riding there & stars at nightnight

Beautiful location

The house and grounds were amazing, so private and peaceful. We loved our week away with our family playing games and enjoying the surroundings. There were fruit trees and a wee vege garden and our adult children loved the tennis court and pool. The hostess was very accommodating and knowledgable about not only the property but the area in general.

Hawkesbury Homestead is an historic home in the countryside of Blenheim - The grounds are vast and are very beautiful with lovely old trees and colourful displays of hydrangeas & roses, Inside the house there are many treasures, interesting books, and large dining & lounge areas.. There is a swimming pool & tennis court - with rackets provided. Bikes with helmets were also available for our use. The bedrooms are large - some with ensuites and having the use of the laundry was welcome. We found Hawkesbury Homestead a pleasurable place to stay - the peace & quiet was perfect for relaxing with a glass or two of local wine!

Enchanting Historic Home

What a privilege to stay at Hawkesbury Homestead! It is a gorgeous historic home with enormous windows offering views of the glorious grounds, gardens, trees, birds, bunnies and bees. We were all instantly enchanted. There is plenty to do: swim, play tennis, ride bikes, wander the grounds which are like an arboretum, meander down the country road, look at the vineyards and enjoy the gardens. Everything from bikes to a yoga mat to tennis racquets and balls and a fully stocked kitchen are carefully provided by hostess Stacey. Thoughtful touches abound, including fresh flowers throughout, wonderful beds and towels, soaps etc etc. Stying at Hawkesbury Homestead is like heaven on earth - we stayed two nights, and our only improvement would have been to stay much, much longer!

Authentic homestead property

Enjoyed our stay and meeting Lynda and Charlie. Unique and large historic home with a fun tennis court that we used for pickleball. Also enjoyed use of the bikes to see the area. Beautiful plantings and amazing massive trees on a spacious property close to Renwick.Heads up that sunscreen residue on light colored clothes washed there will get rust stains from the hard water.

Fantastic holiday

Homestead, quiet, beautiful gardens, very comfortable. Appliances a little old, but this did not detract from the overall fantastic holiday experience. We highly recommend for a group getaway in the beautiful Marlborough region. You won’t be disappointed as my wife wasn’t! Owners lovely!

Unique, historic, funky, relaxing and fun

My wife and I stayed at this unique property for four nights in mid-Jan 2018. Hawkesbury Homestead's curb presence is outstanding; it's a beautiful looking home in an idyllic setting with large trees, flowers everywhere, and a vineyard just past the adjoining pasture. The owners are both very engaging and friendly and we enjoyed a glass of their own sauvignon blanc and some cheeses with them right after we arrived. There's a saltwater pool and a tennis court too. Just walking the grounds was very relaxing and my wife and I very much enjoyed sitting on the one of the many decks and just watching the world go by. The house is close to many cellar doors who are more than happy to have a visitor, and we spent a day riding the Hawkesbury Homestead bikes to various wineries. There are few what I would call indrastructure issues however. First, the beds are just queen sized. My wife and I haven't slept on a queen sized mattress in 20 years and the smaller size took a little getting used to. There is no air conditioning either and only one door and one small window has a screen, meaning bugs will come in, especially if you leave a window open and have a light on at night. It is an old house (built in 1883), and these are some of the issues that our ancestors faced. But this house seems to be pretty well insulated, and we found that we could capture the morning coolness all day and night. The kitchen works just fine and we grilled some lamb, sausages and pork over three nights after we acquired these items at the local farmers' market. There are tons of things to do nearby too and we found that we ran out of time to get to everything we wanted to see and try. Looking back I would give our entire Marlborough area experience five stars. We very much enjoyed staying at Hawkesbury Homestead too. My wife and I have rented many homes around the world and found this one to have a very unique personality.

Fabulous House in Heart of Wine Country

This house makes a perfect base for a family or group of friends. It is very comfortably furnished with many elegant details. Bedrooms are luxurious and beds are terrific. Very nice bathrooms. The Kitchen is huge and well-equipped, and very clean.Gardens are fabulous and well-cared-for. Swimming pool and tennis court add entertainment possibilities. If you can tear yourself away from the house, surrounding countryside holds some of the best-known vineyards in New Zealand. Owner is very helpful and insightful guide to the area, and delightful company to boot! My family and I spent Christmas week here and will never forget the fabulous time we had. I would definitely recommend it to any group seeking peace and quiet in the heart of wine country.

Wonderful homestead!

My mom was visiting from the US, so I decided to surprise her by renting the homestead for just the 2 of us. She loves old homes/antiques, so she was quite excited. We each had a floor to ourselves and enjoyed the pool and the bikes. A tennis court is also available. The location was ideal for day trips to Picton, Havelock and the Queen Charlotte Track. Lynda was wonderful to work with and was available if needed. Highly recommend the homestead in wine country!

This was our favorite place we stayed on out trip to New Zealand. The house was a wonderful historic building smack in the middle of wine country! All modern amenities, lots of things to help keep you busy, like tennis, swimming and bike riding offered on site. The owners are THE most welcoming people and we felt right at home in this cozy setting.

Christmas 2014 at Hawkesbury

Our family (parents plus 2 adult children and husbands) spent Christmas at Hawkesbury Homestead. We were looking for something special and were not disappointed in anyway; the Homestead, the location and the welcome and hospitality shown by Lynda & Charlie was all outstanding. Hawkesbury is beautiful, it has a wonderful homely feel where we all felt instantly comfortable and relaxed. We loved all that Hawkesbury offered; beautiful home, gardens plus swimming, tennis, bikes, BBQ and the wonderful quiet rural / vineyard surrounds. Marlborough is a wonderful location to holiday in; the endless vineyard vista's or the waterways of the Marlborough Sounds. Hawkesbury Homestead location is perfect to enjoy it all. And if that is not enough and you are lucky enough to stay here, don't forget to step outside and night and take in the night sky - outstanding. A special place; loved it.

Hawkesbury Homestead Vacation

During our recent New Zealand vacation, three couples, all from the US, stayed at the Hawkesbury Homestead for a few days. Hawkesbury is an old farmhouse that has been updated and is located among vineyards in the Marlborough wine region of New Zealand. The 3 bedroom, 3-1/2 baths were more than adequate for the 6 of us, and the kitchen and dining area are quite spacious. We enjoyed the large sitting area also. Hawkesbury comes with a very good WiFi system at no extra cost, and there is also a desktop computer that is hardwired with broadband, and internet speed was excellent. The house was clean, well stocked with cooking utensils, and the kitchen pantry contained adequate supplies of spices, salt, pepper, etc. There is a small supermarket less than 5 minutes away in Renwick, and a larger supermarket and many other amenities in Blenheim, approximately 10 km away. There was a Gala apple tree loaded with apples in the back yard for our enjoyment, and we picked several to take with us upon our departure for the North Island. There was also a grapefruit tree and lots of walnuts for our use. The owners met us upon our arrival with a delicious cheese board and their private label Sauvignon Blanc, and gave us a good tour of the house. The Hawkesbury and First Landing Sauvignon Blanc that they provided (rent for a week and you get 6 bottles) was as good if not better than any other Sauvignon Blanc that we found. The location is wonderful. There is one winery within easy walking distance, and numerous wineries, some with outstanding restaurants (the restaurants at Brancott and Rock Ferry were particularly good), within a few minutes by car or bicycle (four bicycles are available at Hawkesbury). The Marlborough area reminded us of the Napa Valley in the US with the outstanding wineries and beautiful vineyards. Hawkesbury's location is convenient for day trips to nearby attractions such as Picton, Queen Charlotte Trace, Nelson, and others. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hawkesbury and recommend it to anyone planning a New Zealand vacation. If we are fortunate enough to vacation again in New Zealand, we will certainly include a few days at Hawkesbury in our plans.

Hawkesbury Holiday

We arrived at Hawkesbury Homestead after a long day in the car. We were so pleased to see a beautiful heritage home in the middle of the vineyards. Our hostess Lynda Marie was waiting for a with a beautifully prepared dinner and some selections of wines from her vineyard. There were five adults in our party. We had several areas to sit outside at with a variety of views. One day we enjoyed swimming in the pool after an intense game of tennis. The tennis court was set up with the best ofa ball retrieval landscape. The interiror of the house was extremely inviting. We prepared our dinner every evening of the four that we were there in a well-stocked kitchen. We enjoyed comfortable beds with convenient bathrooms. Towels and toiletries were provided. We also appreciated access to a computer that allowed us to stay in communication with our families in the states. It also allowed the interislander ferry to alert us to a change in itenerary. The location of the home gave us access to a variety of regions. However, the home was so lovely and enjoyable we spent one of our days lounging. Fortunately, a scrabble game was available for our evening entertainment. Yes, sometimes we are easily amused. Lynda Marie was generally available and gave us plenty of information for seeing the sights in the area. Should we return to New Zealand. The Hawkesbury Homestead would definitely be on our list of locations.

Perfect Wine Country Getaway

Three of us stayed here in the middle of a two-week tour of New Zealand. The overall trip was packed with all kinds of activities and excitement. However, my favorite part of the trip was relaxing at Hawkesbury House. The kitchen is wonderful, the patio is a delightful retreat, and the neighboring vineyards are fantastic. LInda and Charlie are extremely gracious hosts, and we thoroughly enjoyed their company on the first night of our stay. If you stay here, you will not be disappointed.

Great for Family, Friends and Business

Six of us used the Hawkesbury Homestead for a long weekend the back-end of a business trip in Sydney. The night we arrived, Charlie and Lynda greeted us with some of their local wine (First Landing, the Sauvingnon Blanc, was sensational) and a cheese plate that were over the top. Making the evening more special was the great conversation we enjoyed with our hosts. The next day we went fly fishing in gin clear water (you could drink the water right from the stream) and finished up the night telling stories in front of the fire place at the Homestead. The following day, we had a leisurely outdoor lunch at a local winery followed by some touring and tasting of the local wines (fantastic reds and whites). Inspired by the local wine, we played tennis before settling in for dinner. Again, we ended by telling stories in front of the fire. For us, this was the best business trip ever. But it easily could have been the best couples weekend, boys weekend, girls weekend or family getaway. We highly recommend the Hawkesbury Homestead if you want to get away and be surrounded by vineyards and nature. Yet, it's just 15 minutes from the airport and downtown Blenheim. Five Stars!

Honeymoon in Marlborough

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon in November 2010. It was a dream for both of us. Beautiful wine country, lovely historic home and the amazing owners (Lynda and Charlie)... made it a dream vacation for both of us. It is so peaceful and the gardens are stunning. We spent hours on the patio watching the birds; other days we took the bikes out for rides to the vineyards. If you want to stay in a beautiful home in a prime location this house is perfect for you.

A wonderful gem in Marlborough!

My husband & I spent a week at the Hawkesbury Homestead and loved it! Lyndia and Charlie Kelly greeted us on a rainy Saturday afternoon with a beautiful dinner and a bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. A perfect way to start our first visit to New Zealand. As we shared dinner with Lyndia and Charlie we began to unwind as we looked out the picture window of the rolling hills with horses running and playing while the rain came down and made a wonderful sound on the tin roof. As I expressed to our host and hostess it was a magical moment one that you would read about in a novel! We are avid readers! Hawkesbury Homestead is a beautiful 4 bedroom home from the 1800’s and one of the first homesteads in Marlborough. It is right in wine country so you can walk or ride bikes to the local wineries. Bikes and helmets are provided. The homestead has been re-modeled for comfort and function. A big kitchen that is fully supplied for enjoying meals at home, outside BBQ for hanging by your private pool or sitting on the back or front porch enjoying breakfast, lunch or dinner with a nice New Zealand wine. If you enjoy playing tennis then there is a private tennis court that looks out to the vineyards and rolling hills. We stayed in the master bedroom downstairs that looked out on the vineyards and we enjoyed the 4 poster king bed, fireplace, updated master bathroom with claw tub for soaking! My husband and I spent our nights (after wine tasting and exploring all day) in front of a huge roaring fire (there are 3 fireplaces in the home) in the sitting room at the front of the house while reading and having a glass of wine. Also, in the front sitting room you will find many brochures, maps and information for things to do and see around Marlborough. Lyndia and Charlie were always available to answer questions. We only used the first floor since it was just the two of us but this home would be perfect for a family get together or for friends who like to travel together. In addition to the downstairs Master there are 3 spacious bedrooms upstairs with bathrooms and one of the bedrooms has a full porch for you to sit and enjoy the view of the vineyards. Owning a wine shop & tasting room, we are constantly searching for new wines and therefore we usually stay at a working winery or private home. We would highly recommend Hawkesbury as a place to explore wine country, unwind, re-kindle/re-charge your relationship or as a gathering place! Thank you Lyndia & Charlie!

Wonderful Marlborough Experience!

Our group of seven adults had a wonderful stay at the Homestead in the Marlborough Wine Country. The house was a perfect way to enjoy the local experience... right in the wine country and close to all the vineyards. The rooms were well appointed and in great shape. Our hosts, Lynda Marie and her husband Charlie were very attentive to our needs and helped us with planning our daily adventures. Their suggestion to prepare dinner for us the first night we arrived was not only a wonderful meal, but also a perfect way to meet them and learn more about the local area. We would not change a thing. We all enjoyed ourselves and would plan to return again soon. The only comments we could add to help improve the experience would be to correct the banner ad for this unit to acknowledge there are 3.5 baths, not 4.5 available to the renters. Also, window coverings on the ground floor bathroom would help to provide more privacy. These are minor issues and in no way detracted from our overall exoerience. We look forward to our next visit.

The Homestead was originally built by Cyrus Goulter in 1883. His son Charles raised a large family at Hawkesbury and was famous for breeding Merino sheep. The property remained in the Goulter family for over a hundred years. My husband and I bought the property many years ago and have enjoyed renovating and maintaining this historic Homestead, so that it is now back to a lovely country casual style. We love to travel, enjoy adventure and hospitality, and take real delight in having guests from all over the world enjoy Hawkesbury.

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

I had grown up in Marlborough and on returning I knew the Hawkesbury Valley was a place I wanted to live. The historic nature of the Homestead and beauty of the area, with the Homestead's 13 acres, large grounds and 100-year-old trees were very impressive. Hawkesbury is situated in a quiet valley, with no through roads, surrounded by vineyards and farms. Through all seasons it is a wonderful place to live.

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?
