There is an airport in Kalamata which we encourage travelers to fly into as this is only about 25 minutes away
Other Things to Note:
If you are flying to Kalamata (KLX ) and rent a car the drive will be about 35 min.
If flying into Athens airport and renting a car, there will be about 6 tolls totaling to just under 15 Euros. Drive time from the airport to the house is about 3 hours so we recommend getting an energy drink, snack and using the toilet before you get into the mountains. Head to the lane with the symbol of the man with a hat holding his hand out- this means cash/ card lane. You can pay via Euro, card or mobile device. Some tolls will have a symbol in green that has coins on it, this is for mobile payments- should you want to pay with your phone (like Apple pay) this lane would work as well. Do not drive up to the lane with an orange symbol. This is for cars with transponders only and you will get stuck at the gate without a way out.
If you fly in early and want to start sight-seeing, head directly to Athens city center or Sparta for the day. The city is about 30 minutes from the airport and Sparta is about 2 hours.
