Pure Michigan! Close to beaches, marinas, and fishing!
Birch St Cottage is newly renovated with brand new furniture and bedding throughout. Enjoy all Holland has to offer in this amazing 4 bedroom 2 full bathroom home. There are Three bedrooms on the mail level which accommodate up to 7 people, and one bedroom on the lower level which sleeps 2 more. There is one full bathroom up and one full bathroom down as well. There are two living areas with large TVs. The garage is stocked with a large ping-pong table, corn hole, and bicycles and kayaks to rent as well. There is a large patio out back with a built in firepit to enjoy! There are anderondak chairs for all.
The main level also has a deck built on the lake side of the house. You can see bits of the lake glistening through the trees from the deck. The deck has a picnic table for dining, and a bar area for entertaining.
Birch St Cottage is only a mile away from Holland State Park, and even closer to Mt Pisgah, Captain Sundae, Mini Golf, Ice Cream, and more! All these places are within biking distance.
Family-friendly, comfortable home. The full basement with separate living area, bedroom, and bathroom is a great feature, and part of why we rented this house a second time. The game space in the garage was also nice, especially for a rainy day. Our host was easy to reach, and checked in with us to make sure all was going well. We didn't have any problems, but if we would have it was nice to know we could contact him easily. The house is very close to a walking/bike path which will take you down to the state park and a lovely beach (with a stop for ice cream along the way). There are several hiking trails in the area to enjoy too. Downtown Holland is about a ten minute drive away. If you are interested in venturing out a little further, Saugatuck and Grand Haven are both fairly close by.
The pros first: The owner was very responsive and helpful with all my questions. The house was close to many Holland sights, restaurants, the beach, and the downtown area. Check in and check out were good. The garage is well stocked with beach chairs, toys, a ping pong table, etc. The layout of the house worked well for 2 families of 4. Cons: These were the things I wish I had known before booking: The house photos in the listing seem to be from a while ago. The house needs a good powerwash and deep clean. The pillows and upstairs room had a musty odor. There were so many spiders and sap on the outside deck that we couldn't really use it. The house itself had quite a few spiders in it as well (hence the deep clean would have helped). The towels for bathing were old and gray (once white, they should have been replaced). Overall, it looked better in photos than in reality.
We had a great time. Location was perfect for the all the things we wanted to do and see. One complaint...the metal bunk bed in the upstairs bedroom was/is slightly wobbly and squeaks at every movement. An Allen wrench might do that one some good! . Other than that we enjoyed our stay, the place was clean and comfy, and communication with owner was great!
The house was awesome the owner was awesome the vacation was awesome. Close to shopping beach hiking town bike path ice cream. The owner very accommodating we rented his bikes he immediately brought helmets and carrier. House easily slept 3 couples with another room to use. Awesome fire pit ping pong. We had everything we needed. Thanks Scott will be coming back
We has a great time. Birch House was very accommodating for our family.
The owner, Mr. Vanden Berg, was very nice, helpful, and available. He brought us a couple of coolers and Ice when the the power went out for about 10 hours our first night.
Access to the beach was close and convenient.
We really liked the fire pit area and were able to make yummy smores. .
We definitely recommend The Birch House.
We come to Holland every summer and really enjoyed Birch Cotttage. It was close to family, the Yacht Basin with our boat, the beach and downtown! Very clean and well appointed cottage!
We would stay here again. Close to the Holland State Park and downtown Holland is just a short distance away. Very clean home and the owners will try everything in their power to accommodate you if they can :)!
We are a group of women aged 39-76 that go away twice a year for a Girl's Weekend and have for 6 years. This was an okay place to stay if you're not spending much time there, but not an all weekend house. The coffee pot was broke, ice maker didn't work, upstairs toilet you had to hold through pretty much two flushes to get to go down. For as much as you pay for a "cleaning fee" we were surprised to find dead flies on the floor and it appeared to be a quick wipe down through the entire house. Do not attempt to put adults on the bunk bed, because with a single, 5'5" 105lb woman sleeping on it alone, she was afraid to roll over because it was so shaky and squeeky. However, the other beds in the house were comfortable. The owner was friendly enough, but nothing was solved other than to acknowledge the ice maker didn't work and that's why there was 2 ice trays in the freezer. We still had fun shopping downtown and it was located at an okay location, but we wouldn't stay here again. We are used to much nicer accommodations for what we paid for this house.
Great cottage! Perfect place to stay while visiting Holland!
This cottage was very charming! It had new furniture, bedding (and carpet, I believe.) Everything was in tip top condition and exceptionally clean. Great layout for a family! We had plenty of space to play games, watch a movie, play ping pong, but at the end of the day we were able to retreat to our own private spaces. There is a great outdoor firepit that we weren't able to use because of rain, unfortunately. We'd love to come back in the spring and use the bikes and kayaks that are so graciously available for guests. Scott was very friendly and prompt in communicating. Thank you for the basket of goodies upon arrival. That was an extra special treat!
This property is exactly as it's pictured...cute and clean! The owners were so nice and helpful! Holland lost power during our stay and the owner was VERY attentive to our needs during that outage! Kids LOVED the game area. We had a few ping-pong tournaments. Overall...great experience!
Scott and Liz were the perfect hosts!! We couldnât have been happier with the Birch Cottage. It was super clean and with homey touches. We were very impressed with how well the cottage was stocked with all the necessary amenities. The kitchen had all the essential tools and utensils needed for an extended stay. We absolutely loved the finished garage with the ping pong table and dart board. There were so many âextrasâ provided that it seemed like mini resort cottage. We also took advantage of renting the bikes offered for an additional fee. We loved being able to take a post dinner bike ride to the General Store for an ice cream dessert!
Thanks to Scott and Liz for providing this amazing property. We would absolutely rent again!
Scott & Liz were wonderful hosts. We found their rental at 10pm the night before (were flooded out of a rental in another area of MI) and they responded right away! The cottage was clean and ready a little early for us which was a blessing with 2 small children.
The area was wonderful with lots to do close by. The neighborhood was quiet and perfect for evening walks before sitting around the wonderful firepit! Having the ping pong table and electronic dart board in the garage was a great setup, allowed for some adult time after the little ones were in bed:)
We had a great week and were so happy to "save" our family trip of 2021! Thanks again to Scott & Liz and we would highly recommend the cottage:)
