I was prepared for your retaliatory review when I made the difficult decision on if I alert other owners regarding your lack of respect for someone’s property and should I just incur the expense of the damages by having my dining table refinished along with the multiple deep scratches to my hardwood floors. I do call all guests shortly after confirmation of reservation to see if they have any questions and if I can give any recommendations or help so their visit is more enjoyable. If you felt in any way uncomfortable with it, you should have spoken up. I would have been more than happy to cancel your reservation. Right up front when I called, I explained that this isn’t just a rental but our second home. I asked on two occasions if you had completely read our rental agreement. The third time I asked, you said yes. It’s apparent that you had not read it or intended not to follow it as you misrepresented how many guests would be staying. Had you indeed read the rental agreement, this review and response would not be taking place. Yes, I asked about who would be staying. Like you, some people don’t make sure they enter the proper number of guests. I need this information so the guests have everything they need as far as towels, extra linen, toiletries etc. I ask what kind of car you drive as it states in our listing that an suv is recommended but not required as you are traveling on a gravel road to the top of the mountain. BTW, Your condition of the road is grossly exaggerated. I wish we were able to add photos in the review responses. I did ask via text to please not have any outdoor fires on one particular day as the winds were up to 35 mph on top of the mountain. I had received weather warnings from our weather station , and also saw postings on FB Blue Ridge 411. There was also a report of a fire that had occurred on the other side of the mountain due to an outdoor fire. Apparently it’s a good thing I did send you a text because according to your review, you were actually trying to start a fire in the outdoor fireplace at that time. You were not being watched as you tried to imply in your review. We do not have that ability as we only have one camera that faces the driveway for security that is directed toward the road. It does not face toward the house as we completely respect our guests privacy. It is fully disclosed in our listing and rental agreement and there is a decal on our front door. Finally, you did not follow the instructions upon checkout and left the cabin in less than orderly condition. We only have a basic list of things to do at checkout. The primary items are to strip the beds, take out the trash, and put all dishes in the dishwasher and start it. You did none of these. I would not have kept your deposit because of this but the cost of the damage far exceeds your deposit amount.
