Good - amazing bed, very responsive, allowed us to ship to home, close to the launch, they left stuff for sâmores, and firewood is stocked. The Meh (we didnât care, but some might)- cellar room clearly wasnât cleaned. Late check d/t cleaners running late and had minimal time to clean and did bare minimum. Previous renters likely left the doors wide open leaving an excessive amount of dead mayflies in the dinning area. There was also hair in tub, ants &earwigs, chunks of hair/fur on the rug, dirty stove, Grill not maintained & we had to clean a grease spill on the deck to use. Paddle boat is non functioning. No screen for the front door. Given minimal notice they needed to enter the unit for internet.- Why we wonât rent again- inaccurate pictures, not able to park at the dock Options are mooring ball (they do have kayaks), setting up your own sand anchors, or bring a large inflatable fender- A security concern- due to a forgotten plumbing issue with the hose we used to clean the deck/grill they needed to get someone out there. We werenât sure when they were coming so left the back door unlocked, but they instead gave the code to the plumber & didnât know how to change it. When concern was expressed the response was a bit flippant. Just because it is insignificant to you does not mean itâs not significant to us & does not change how we felt. We left it cleaner than when we arrived, but left the bugs, because - no. Watch for water contamination - swimmer itch is present.
Very much older architecture and small, but was clean and nice for small people. We used it as an overflow house, so we didnât spend much time there. Tidy and cozy.
This place is all about the lake! The house is nestled between M-66 and the lake and has a surprisingly private yard, great expansive lake views on all sides and nice access to the water. Expect some traffic noise from the roadside of the house. The owner is very responsive and did a great job addressing our needs.
If you are bringing your boat, the launch access in East Jordan is great. Easy in and out and a quick ride down the shore to the house. The dock has limited cleats and the mooring ball is far out in deep water, which we didnât use, with a somewhat functional paddle boat. We brought long poles with auger ends that we used to create a secure docking situation for our boat. There is also on lake gas right down from the house and several beaches/sandbars close by or you can head anywhere on the lake. The finger part of the lake is calmer and a great spot for smaller boats.
Lake living is what this place is all about. The deck is really nice as is the windowed dining room. The cottage itself is funky but is full of light and has a positive, fun vibe that can add to the lake vacation feel depending on your attitude. Of note, the lake view room is a refurbished cellar space with an exterior door. So you have to go outside across a sometimes slick deck to get into the main house and bathroom. That room also doesnât have air which was pretty hot during our stay and is kind of damp and dark. The loft is a great space for kids as it has a small, low, narrow staircase with limited head clearance but a nice space once you are up there. Same is true in the kitchen with a low ceiling height - this would be a tough space for a really tall family. The kitchen also really needs an exhaust fan as any type of cooking sets off the smoke detector. The kitchen/dining area, master bedroom and loft have window air conditioning units. The bunk beds in the laundry area stay decently cool with fans. The master bedroom is spacious and separated from the other rooms but directly above the lake view room. We found the bed to be really bouncy, squeaky and uncomfortable. Hopefully the owners upgrade it.
All in all, this is a beautiful lake and area and this house has amazing lake access. So if you love the water, plan to boat and donât mind a real âlake cottageâ feel, youâll be happy.
We give our guests space but are available when needed! Available via email or text for any issues, suggestions or help. We also do own the hoist and pontoon boat on the north side of the dock as we like to enjoy Lake Charlevoix too! We could end up meeting by chance if it's a day we are lucky enough to enjoy some free time too :)
