Great home in the heart of the shopping district!
Surrounded by shops, restaurants, The Towers, and the sea!
The only draw back would be the noise from the square!
Wonderful position, wonderful views, wonderful property and wonderful holiday
This property is a one in a million positioned right on the port with a wonderful wraparound terrace you certainly feel you are in the middle of everything, not only this but it is also extremely well equipped. My wife and I had a wonderful stay, although there was only the two of us, this property can easily accommodate eight people and suitable for families or groups of friends. Thierry was extremely helpful and accommodating also a special mention for Jennifer who was so friendly and helpful and made check in and check out so easy.
Exactly what we wanted. A step from everything. Music and laughter in the breeze through open windows. Wonderful food and wine a stones throw away. The ocean breeze. History. Playing cards and drinking wine on the rooftop balcony. When ready for quiet, close the shutters. The perfect way to experience the magic of La Rochelle.
Great location and extremely helpful host. Everything was ready and host checked in to make sure everything went was in order. Highly recommend this property.
An exceptional apartment in an exceptional location. The description is very accurate and it's a cheeky delight to see the envious stares as the property is accessed through the tiny door at the top of the steps to the walls right next to the Chaine tower. Inside, all is good, bathrooms, kitchen and the terrace. Wow! More modern and comfortable chairs in the salon would be nice, but the best time should be spent out in this excellent town.
As a family of 4 (all adults), this property was perfect for our needs and we would not hesitate to rebook the property when we return to La Rochelle. The home is ideally located, very comfortable, well-appointed and the kitchen in particular is well-equipped. The property exceeded our expectations in every way. We stayed at the property in December and due to the weather we were not able to take advantage of private terrace, but can confirm the views are stunning. Everything La Rochelle has to offer is within easy walking distance to the property: restaurants, the fabulous central market, shopping, and other attractions. We were also able to park our rental car close to the property for easy access in and out of La Rochelle. Lastly, and just as importantly, the owner of the property was exceptionally gracious, helpful, and accommodating to our needs. Overall, staying at the property was a great experience and we hope to return.
The apartment is very clean and very well equipped. Two of the rooms have super king beds (6" wide) which is something we have at home but rarely find when we are traveling in Europe.
The terrace however is amazing! Brilliant views to the old port and the surrounding quays in one direction and view out to see and the main leisure port in the other direction. We spent many an evening drinking wine up there, however there are a lot of stairs when you to pop down for another bottle.
Finally, Thierry is so helpful! Showed us around to make sure we knew where everything was and how it all worked and even gave us a lift to the airport at the end of our stay.
We will definitely be going back, just trying to work out when we can fit it in!
We had a wonderful time in La Rochelle. Thierry's apartment was and is wonderful, truly a 5 star experience. Amazing views over the old harbour, it is great having the roof terrace where you can look out to sea on one side, and towards the harbour and city the other. We stayed in late July/ early August, so busy/lively in the city, yet a haven of peace in the apartment. It is well located to enjoy all that La Rochelle and surrounds offer. Trips out on the ferries to Ile d'Aix, Ile de Re and Ile de Oleron (we took our cycles on that one). Really picturesque city streets (shops, restaurants, etc) just outside the front door. The apartment is spacious and stylishly furnished and has everything needed, including a fully equipped kitchen, with a view over the harbour. Thierry is a perfect host. We have stayed at his apartment a couple of times now, and hope to visit again.
There is so much that I can say about this delightful town house. The location by the town walls with stunning views in every direction over the harbour and river estuary. It is not often your next door neighbour is a mediaeval tower! La Rochelle is a town of character. Winding, narrow streets, bijou shops anongside more cosmopolitan outlets, a wide range of restaurants and a colourful daily market within ten minutes walk.which will have all you could need for home cooking (and if that is too far then there is always Monoprix which is only five). There are even a couple of wine bars aswell as several cafes just around the corner if you feel like going out after a meal at home to people watch.
The town beach, although not broad, is fine and barely five minutes walk. Or you can catch the boat to Minimes where there is somewhat larger beach. Better still take the boat to Ile d'Aix, hire a bike and discover its coves and beaches. There are broder stretches of sand both north and south of La Rochelle and on the Ile de Re. There is, of course, besides sunning yourself on a beach, much else you can do within the town or within an hour's drive.
The house itself is spacious and very liveable. The kitchen is one of the best equipped I've ever used. All three double bedrooms are very comfortable. There is air conditioning if you get too hot. But the most notable feature is the roof top terrace from where you can watch the boats, the crowds, the buskers and the evening murmurations of the starlings as they come in to roost in the quayside trees.
Last but not least let me say with thanks what a helpful and obliging host is Thierry, the owner. Not every owner offers you a lift to the station and carries your bags!
