Cozy Mountaintop Retreat

Stay in a cozy log cabin located on Shaffer Mountain, a perfect retreat from a busy life. In Bedford County this is located on a flyway for migrating birds. The Allegheny Plateau Audubon Society (APAS) has a Hawkwatch site nearby that is open to visitors during migration

The cabin has an open plan downstairs with a great room, kitchen and view of Bedford County plus a quiet bedroom with a full bed; a small loft has twin beds.

The kitchen includes a stove, microwave plus dishes and cookware.
There is a small sofa and fireplace in main room as well as a bathroom with shower on the main floor. Internet with Netflix and Youtube TV is available. (streaming can be touchy with the remote location)

This location is close to the town of Bedford, local antique shops, the Allegheny Front Hawkwatch as noted and miles of hiking trails. There is also a fire pit at the cabin for relaxing in the evening

Such a wonderful place to stay for a long weekend away!! The view was amazing! The home has everything you would need. Such a plus to bring our dog as well. We explored three national parks all within close distance. Definitely recommend!!

The cabin was absolutely perfect for our long weekend! Kim was incredibly responsive and helpful with any questions that we had, and the cabin is so cozy and has every ability we were looking for, and the view off the front deck is absolutely to die for it is a million dollar view! The fire pit outback was my husbands favorite part, and the view from there was amazing too!! There's a decent amount to do in the area, we spent one day traveling out but we mostly booked the cabin so we could just enjoy the tranquility of nature and it did exactly that! Beds were comfy, water was hot, kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to cook, and it was amazing to wake up to the sunrise!! I highly highly recommend!

Amazing get-away.

The view from this house is stunning! The cottage had everything we needed and was very clean. We had such a relaxing time! Our Aussie felt right at home as well. Love, love, love!

Great time!

It was a cozy cabin just like the desciption says. It was clean and had everything at our disposal. Id recommend it to any family looking to get away for a few days. Super relaxing and the view is to die for!

This is my second time staying at the cabin with my two German Shepherds. My brothers stayed with me a couple of nights too. It is such a unique wonderful cabin and I love it. My dogs really love it there too.

Mountain Cabin

Quiet, private cabin perched on a mountain ridge with outstanding views from the back deck. Nice covered side porch to sit on if raining. Inside of cabin was well-appointed and clean. Pictures of the listing are accurate. Would stay again.

Cabin in the woods

We loved our time at the cabin! The house was clean and tidy when we arrived. The kitchen was stocked with all the cookware we needed. The views from the house are incredible. It was so nice to sit out on the deck during the day and enjoy the fire at night. This was the perfect lil getaway for a long weekend.

Better Even Than the pictures!

And the pictures in the listing are pretty darn good! The view is breathtaking! We couldn’t have enjoyed ourselves more. Everything we needed to recharge our batteries. Perfect place to get away from it all. Everything was as described, only better!

This location has a beautiful view and secluded to enjoy privacy and quiet. I was a little concerned about no a/c as we had a heat wave during our stay but there was always a breeze going so it was very comfortable to sleep with windows open and a fan on. The only reason for not giving all 5 stars is due to some minor things (missing blow dryer, empty soap containers and blown lightbulbs). The host was contacted and feedback was well received. This was likely caused due to a change in housekeepers. Also, the host had very good response time even though she was out of the country. Overall the trip was just what we wanted
. Time to get away from the daily grind, relax and reset.

The cabin was great and the view was even better. Everything was excellent from the helpful directions to get there, to the fire pit and well stocked fire starting supplies, and to the kitchen supplies given we did a lot of cooking during our stay. Dog friendly too and my dog loved sitting on the deck and taking in the sights and smells! Highly recommend staying here.

Gorgeous views from a wonderful cabin! We enjoyed hiking in the mornings followed by relaxing afternoons on the back porch. Plentiful shade in the afternoons and evenings as well as cool mountain temps and breezes.

Peaceful getaway

My husband and I wanted to take a few days away for our anniversary. This cabin was well worth going to. The view from the deck was expansive. The first evening we sat on the deck overlooking the valley. We watched as several downpours passed over portions of the valley, sun shining in other places, 5 rainbows and lighting...quite the nature show. Beds were comfortable. All you need in the kitchen. No airconditioning and our first night was very warm but the owner supplies large fans that really helped. The location was private and instructions to the cabin were great. Its not far from restaurants and area attractions like the Jon Bennet Tavern, the Flight 93 Memorial. We also ate a lunch at the Horn of Plenty restaurant. All recommended. This cabin rental was very nice and we will consider it again in the future!

My name is Kim, and I am a high school principal. I enjoy spending my free time with my family and pets. My husband Bo, is a musician, professor and radio personality. I have 2 children, Tucker and Sally. We also have 3 dogs- Rosie, Ivy and Vanna and 2 cats, Jennifer and Carlos. Vanna, our Golden Retriever is actually a Facility Service Dog. She goes to work with me every day and spends the day with our students.

I grew up spending time on my parents farm which really promoted my love of nature. My parents started the Allegheny chapter of the Audubon Society and the Allegheny Front Hawk watch, which is open to visitors and about 1/2 hour from the cabin. I consider the cabin a perfect mixture of the farm and the hawk watch, and it is a very special place.
