Clifftop Great Barrier Island Accommodation for a Secluded Getaway

This secluded getaway consists of an eco-friendly and architecturally-designed apartment rental in a remote 4WD location on rugged Great Barrier Island. Accommodation like this is a truly unique way to enjoy New Zealand holidays. The bedroom contains a queen-size bed for two guests, and the bathroom contains a shower, a sink, and a toilet. Towels and linens are kindly provided by the hosts. The island is completely off-grid, but the hosts provide limited electricity via solar power. Due to its seclusion and rugged access road, it's vital that guests hire a 4WD to be able to get to the apartment.



The charming interior features whitewashed walls and wooden floors, and the comfy sofa and armchairs sit across from a large windowed wall, offering guests fantastic views of the ocean and mountains over the horizon. A fireplace keeps guests warm during the colder winter months and adds a homey touch. The kitchen has everything needed to prepare home-cooked meals, and a dining table by the window to enjoy them at. Wi-Fi is available, but is not suitable for streaming, only light browsing.



Outside, there's a raised wooden deck with some outdoor furniture, a fantastic place to enjoy a hot cup of coffee in the morning sunshine while taking in the 270-degree views of the sea. Dolphins and gannets can often be spotted from the deck. Guests have access to the host's unheated outdoor pool, perfect for taking a dip on a hot summer's afternoon. At night, thousands of stars reveal themselves for the best stargazing possible in New Zealand and private stargazing tours are available on site, through a separate company and are subject to availability.
