We had such a great time and managed to be there with the weather at its best which made the use of our boat each day possible to explore around the island and get over to the surf beach for a day. Paul was awesome to deal with and really added to us enjoying our stay with his assistant getting us settled in and passing on great information about the island. Canât wait to come stay again!
Great location excellent Jetty and moorings safe we had 10.5 meter vessel no problem on the jetty overnight close to Fitzroy for fuel and filling dive bottles we used this for our base accommodation suitable for 5 guys or more Deep-sea fishing diving etc only 1/2 to the needles if you have your own boat ideal base Coromandel harbor to batch was only 2 hours ideal recommend we be back
Stunning property in a great location, handy to Fitzroy without being in the harbour itself. Crystal clear water, park like surrounds and a comfy cottage. Paul was very helpful when we needed but also let us do our own thing. The mooring and jetty were very handy and it felt very secure. Great base for some Barrier exploration.
Our family absolutely loved our stay. The communication from the hosts prior to our arrival and while we were there was fantastic. This is a great spot to stay and we enjoyed exploring the island. We will definitely be back again.
We stayed 3 nights at this lovely cottage and really enjoyed the space, surroundings, bird life and a heavy mooring which fortunately we were able to secure to early as a gale approached. Thanks for accommodating us without fuss and making our stay easy. Hope we'll make it back one day!
Beautiful setting and so relaxing. Lovely place to stay and we were able to get out and explore on the water within Fitzroy Harbour and on foot over to Onewhero Bay. Paul was very accommodating easy-going. Will definitely return! Thanks to our wonderful hosts!
Paul and Ann-Marie are very hospitable and accomodating hosts. Their property is well suited for boaties wanting access to Northern Barrier or anyone seeking some âtime-outâ.
Was awesome place to stay we had a great time even though most of us had to leave early to get back to work because of the virus. Communication with owner was a little difficult due to web site links not working (bookabach problem not owner) but we managed and were met and helped to accommodation that was excellent and in an outstanding location. We are already planning for next year!
Peaceful, remote, beautiful. For those who love living "Off the Grid" this is it....Battery power and gas cooking.....it's all there, ok there is cell phone reception so if you need to communicate with the outside world, you can. Berthing jetty, mooring buoy, a boaties dream.
This was such an amazing spot! We feel so lucky to have had Paul and Ann Marie as our hosts. It was such a relief to be able to use the mooring and know our boat was safe (it was extremely windy one night) the house was cute and clean. Loved that we were able to use the kyacks and life jackets provided to explore as well.
Beautiful relaxing spot, clean tidy and Paul was very friendly with making sure we were set up.
We (my wife and I) stayed at Paulâs place for 5 days. It was a stunningly beautiful place which was well equipped for a relaxing stay. The bird life was amazing to watch and listen to (there were penguins under the house! So amazing), and everyday we headed out on Kaykaes supplied by Paul and went adventuring, even over to Kaikaura Island. We also went fishing (with the rods provided by Paul) and caught a lot of fish.
At night time we enjoyed lying on the jetty watching the beautiful night stars.
Paul was great at just leaving us to do our own thing, but if we did have a question or needed anything he was very warm and kind and always made sure we were set up with what we needed.
A beautiful spot, friendly hosts, we would deffinitly love to go back and canât recomend a stay here highly enough.
Thankyou Pual for making our stay such a memorable time. We shall deffinitly be back!
On-site hosts Paul and Anne Marie McGlashan have lived at Owhitu Bay for over 8 years. After growing up in Auckland and now with grown up children living in the city, we work remotely and enjoy a quieter environment with its off-grid lifestyle and sustainability focus. We enjoy introducing our guests to the island way of life and the pristine environment.
We enjoy the slower pace of life, the peace and quiet, the bird life, being surprised by dolphins in the bay, the jumping bait fish, being close to the sea and its moods, and to nature and the elements.
