Rustic Moose Cabin Getaway - Glamping

Have a relaxing stay at our off-grid studio style dry cabin. A quaint 12x12 log cabin nestled in the trees at the home of Wildthingz Dog Mushing, professional sled dog team of Iditarod and Yukon Quest dog Musher, Richie and wife Emily.
The cabin is for the traveler looking for something more off the beaten path that still provides some comforts and amenities.
There is solar power to charge your small electronics, like phones & tablets.

There is a full sized bed with space for storing luggage underneath. All linens, blankets and towels are provided. There is a cooler for storing your food and all kitchen amenities are provided. There is a propane stove top and propane heater for chilly nights.
There is a private outhouse outdoors equipped with hand sanitizer and baby wipes for staying clean.
We provide clean drinking water, sanitizer and soap indoors .
There is no shower, but there are showers available for a small fee down the road at the local RV park and Vitus gas station.

The cabin is right off the road and is easily accessible. There is a nice fire ring to hang around in the evening and trails to walk on down to the river. This place is a great getaway, close to Denali national park (30 minutes south) so you can enjoy all of its attractions but be a little removed from the busier hub of tourism.

you need a car to get to our property - there are restaurants within 5 minutes of our place. More dining options are 20 minutes north. Bring food to cook in the cabin or BBQ on the small charcoal grill.

dogs are welcome but must be leashed at all times, as we have sled dogs on property.

you might see other guests coming in going as we have 2 other rentals and a sled dog tour operation.

Moose cabin was very clean, described accurately as on website. Was very quiet and we enjoyed meeting Emily, Richie and the sled dogs. We appreciated their hospitality. If we're ever in area again we'd love to stay at the cabin.

Awesome Cabin!

We had such a great stay here at the cabin! Perfectly located just a short drive outside Denali, this cabin was the perfect place to dry during our trip. It was clean, cozy and quiet which is just what we wanted. The cabin had everything we needed including a cool little wood stove to heat us up. Definitely recommend!

Can't wait to go back!

The cabin is really cute! Views and listening to the river were great! Close to awesome trails and a short walk to the river! Emily and Richie were extremely nice and welcoming! We loved getting to meet their doggos! Staying there was an unforgettable experience, would strongly recommend for anyone looking to get away from the typical tourist experience!

Absolutely what it says in the description…. No breakfast, no running water…. But the cabin was very comfortable and adorable! I used the gas station shower and ate very well at the places they recommended. Never met the owners :-)

Disconnect and reconnect

This was the perfect cabin for our time in Denali. On our 10 day trip I feel like we had the best bon fire here with NO neighbors just us, the fire and the woods while still feeling safe. The host are very cool and interesting and meeting the dogs was amazing. The cabin was spotless and you can feel the love that has gone into putting this awesome little place together.

My wife and I were doing an Alaskan road trip and were bouncing between staying in Healy or Cantwell. We landed on Cantwell for a couple of logistical reasons and came across the Rustic Moose. We lucked out. The setting was absolutely STUNNING!! If you're looking for a truly Alaskan Cabin experience while still being comfortable, give this cabin a run. Mind you, this is an Alaskan cabin (outhouse and a portable indoor shower), but the proprietors have gone to lengths to make sure you will be comfortable. We aren't austere travelers but had a blast using this as a base for our runs to Denali. Try it, you'll like it.

Adequate at best, attributed to very poor craftsmanship/upkeep. The house was water proof, but let in tons of air through cracks in the walls and doorframe. The front door did not shut well or lock at all when inside, which was most concerning since the road was about 5 feet away and there was other cabins about 150 yards away. The heater turned on only when it was cold enough within its 3’ radius, so most of the house stayed very cold. The outhouse had a half door so you still got wet if you tried to pee in the rain, and there were (thankfully, capped) electrical wires dangling from the ceiling. Location was convenient to Denali National Park, but safety was questionable. Good if you’re looking for an off the grid cabin not far from others, bad if you stay in the winter time.

Hi Kaitlyn, After reading your concerns I have to contest that we have had hundreds of guests here who have had no trouble with closing and locking the door from the inside which has a deadbolt. We live in a very rural place with 1 neighbor, there is no need to be concerned about your safety and we clearly list that there are other rentals and a tour business on the property so people are coming and going. The heater has never been an issue for anyone and people have stayed very comfortable in there. It's funny you complained about it not being suitable for the winter, but we aren't even open for guests in the winter. It is a summer-geared cabin so it's not really our fault you are unable to thermal-regulate well and didn't check the weather forecast and pack adequate layers for Alaska in August. There is a literal photograph of the outhouse in the listing with the "half door" so if you didn't view that, that's 100% on you and should not be something you feel the need to complain about. No one else has ever had complaints about It. It honestly sounds like you were looking for a hotel and if that's the case, i would suggest a) thoroughly reading the listing next time and b) booking something that's more accommodating to a high maintenance traveler such as yourself.

Loved this!

We loved our stay here. Despite some initial concerns over it being a dry cabin, we both ended up loving this accommodation over all the ones we stayed during our two week trip in AK. It definitely will one of our most memorable and it was a great “off grid” experience. It was an inviting space; cozy, comfortable and had everything we needed. Emily and Ritchie have put a lot of thought and consideration into everything a guest might need. It got down to a chilly and windy 30 degrees the nights we stayed but the propane heater kept us warm and very comfortable. Emily made sure we had plenty of water too. The bedding was soft and warm, but as side sleepers, we could have used more cushion or padding (easy fix.) We also got to meet the sled dogs on our last day and were treated to clear views of Denali up on the plateau. Emily also was very responsive to our texts; promptly answering any questions or concerns we had during our stay (like how to use the propane heater.) We enjoyed our stay here so much that we would love to return again some day!

Moose Cabin

Such a great visit in a cozy cabin in Cantwell. Location is perfect, can hear the river in the distance. The area is quiet and perfect for relaxing or getting as adventurous as you would like! All the necessities are in the cabin. Owners are friendly and accommodating! Had a great visit!

A quiet getaway

My husband and I stayed in the moose cabin for two nights. It was absolutely beautiful! It has everything you need and then some. Hot water, peaceful surroundings, a cozy bed plus all the extras that Emily and Richie thought of. We also really enjoyed the.dog mushing tour. So informative and personal. Thank you!

Perfect for Off The Grid Denali Adventure

Great stay for anyone who wants to just enjoy the wilderness and beauty of Alaska. Easy drive to Denali. Recommend bringing your own food or heading up to Three Bears in Healy to stock up. Our hosts were attentive and responsive.

Close to Denali, loved the river

The bed is MUCH better than you’d expect! The river is beautiful and surrounding area, we went there each morning! This little cabin is right on a road that cars pass on to get to 1 other rental, BUT, trust me that the inside is great, the area is great, the location to DENALI is great. Definitely recommend!

Perfect Off Grid Getaway

This was the perfect place to crash after long days of hiking in Denali. It had everything we needed. Emily and Richie were awesome hosts and even introduced us to their Sled Dog team! Can’t recommend this place enough.

Great stay close to Denali

Our stay in Cantwell was great! It’s an off-the-grid little cabin but there is a solar panel that offers lighting and heat and there is cell service! This was an upgrade from our truly off the grid experience in a different part of the state a few days prior! We had access to a hot shower, a stove top and everything we needed to make our 3 nights in Cantwell enjoyable. Not to mention the GORGEOUS views of the Talkeetna mountain range from the property. Emily and Richie were easy to communicate with, always responsive, and very kind! Our plans were derailed by weather one of the days we were there and Emily and Richie were kind enough to let us stop by and visit with them and their dogs one evening as well! They are wonderful hosts and we recommend staying here!

We love off grid, haul all of our water from the river and a natural sprint, raise chickens and turkeys, garden and hunt, fish and forage to provide for ourselves the best we can. We want to encourage this lifestyle and allow people the opportunity to visit it from someone else's perspective!
