Great Basecamp for Adventure

This rustic cabin provided us with a great basecamp for a Spring running vacation. We used the Syllamo and Syllamore trails and loved drinking coffee and eating our meals on the porch that overlooked the White River. The accommodations were good, but we would have known what the cooking product (utensils, pots, pans, etc.) inventory was before we arrived. Because of this, we ended up bringing a lot of our own items, which we were happy about since we cooked a lot in the house.Our stay coincided with a pretty awful tornado that resulted in a lot of destruction to the neighboring town of Fifty Six. We were not aware of where the safest place to stay in the cabin was or what emergency protocols were. It ended up being fine, but it would have been nice to hear from the property manager or learn more about those emergency procedures.

Disappointed

Our stay was just "ok" as far as accommodations go. It says walk to White River, but it does NOT say it is a 1/2 mile or more downhill and uphill back to room! The picture shows a nice view toward the left, but what you don't see is when you look to the right, you are at an intersection of a busy highway! The small road you see in the photo is also a busy road. Traffic noise was awful there and we were there Wednesday-Saturday. There were no paper towels to start our time there with, either. Kitchen supplies were limited, which would have been fine if you didn't eat there. When we were deciding on where to stay for our trip, we debated on that cabin or a place in town. We decided on this cabin because of the view. We were extremely disappointed when we arrived. We would NOT stay at this cabin again.

Hi Darlene, we shared your review with the homeowner, who provided the following response:-The property is walkable to the river, and we’ll be updating the listing to reflect that it’s approximately a 10–15 minute walk. The view from the home is just as pictured and continues to be one of its most appreciated features.-Regarding the kitchen, we believe it is adequately stocked for typical cooking needs, but we’re always happy to provide any specific items that may be missing—guests are encouraged to let us know.-As for the location, the area is rural with light traffic, and we’ve not received noise-related complaints in the past.Thank you for sharing your feedback about your stay!

We booked this cabin for 2 nights,for 8 people, as it is a 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom property. The master bedroom had a king sized bed, single nightstand with a lamp, along with a twin bed that had no sheets, pillows, or blankets. The other bedrooms had only queen sized beds in them, so we used our ice chests for night stands. There were no extra bed linens or blankets. There was no air conditioner in one bedroom, but there were a couple of small fans sitting on the floor in that room, so we used the kitchen chairs to set them on at night. There was a couch, small end table, 2 recliners and wall mounted TV in living room. In the 3 bathrooms there were 1 1/2 to 2 rolls of toilet paper and 2 tiny packaged soaps, but fortunately we brought extra toilet paper and bath soap. Exhaust fan didnt work in master bathroom. The kitchen was very minimally stocked with dishes, cutlery, and pots/pans. Exaust fan over the stove didn't work. Overall cleanliness of the cabin was okay, but the floors were dirty and everything had a worn, dingy look to it. The outside of the cabin was shabby looking; paint was peeling off the front railing and 1 window screen was ripped halfway off. There was a small outdoor grill but it seemed to belong to the cabin next door to us, in fact, there were only 3 outdoor grills for the 6 cabins on the whole property. Lastly, it took several phone calls and emails before we were given the entry code for the front door.
