Nice apartment with great ocean views
The unit was clean and comfortable. The beds were particularly comfortable, the bathrooms were well maintained and the kitchen had everything necessary to be able to cook and enjoy your stay. The complex could use a good refresh but was well kept. The balcony was small, but the view of the beach and ocean was fantastic. Management was responsive when we had questions.
Check in was a little laborious after a day of travel - park outside the complex, get a key out of a lock box, walk around the complex and go up to the apartment, get a second set of keys from the apartment, go back down to your car and then get into the garage and go back up to the apartment. Then of course do the reverse on the way out.
The neighborhood felt sketchy and there were some folks visibly shooting up in the little park just south of the complex.
Unfortunately the water at Imperial Beach almost always has bacteria levels that are too high to safely enjoy the beach. We didn't realize this until about 2 weeks before our stay, which wasn't within the cancellation timeframe. The listing is not forthcoming on this, so if official beach bacteria warnings and/or closures will dampen your enthusiasm, please be warned. Our research showed that the beach was only at acceptable bacteria levels for a month or two in the last couple of years. There were people in the water and on the beach, but we weren't interested in getting sick or subjecting our 3 year old to sewage.
