As billed, it's a rustic cabin! Beautiful location right on a bend of the Kalamazoo River. Very close to Fennville and Saugatuck (7 and 15 minutes, respectively). The cabin itself, as has been mentioned in other reviews, is very bare bones and shows its age a little in places, but we found it to be clean and stocked with the necessaries. Probably wouldn't want to spend a rainy day cooped up in there but we lucked out with weather and spent the majority of our stay outside enjoying the scenic location. The nearby glampers were a little loud at night, and there are occasional freight trains passing through, so bring ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. And be sure to rent a canoe or kayak next door and explore this lovely stretch of the river if you get the chance - it was definitely the highlight of our trip!
The"cabin" was more spartan than we imagined. Simple, well equipped with fridge, sink, shower, toilet, bed, futon and peace and quiet. Our family completely enjoyed the simplicity and serene environment. Our grandson went fishing EVERY day. The canoe rental was convenient and relaxing. Coda, the silver lab was content with watching fish jump and turtles swim. Having Warren Dunes, with a pet friendly area so close was amazing for our beach fix. If you want peace and quiet and no fuss or luxury amenities, this is the best "camping" situation having all your needs met without the hassle of hauling equipment. The thing we would suggest are some upgrades to the stove, doors, paint (inside and out) and entrance. In fact, we would be happy to help. We have flipped three homes and are experienced with older structures.
A very cute, cozy cabin. The host was very helpful and accomidating. One small suggestion, my 13 year old daughter really wished there was a mirror for her to use to do her makeup.
This was a nice time for us to relax and unwind for a few days. We might plan on visiting again in the future! The kayak rental is nice and close, and the river is very peaceful and calming. You might want to bring your own fan. Nice neighborhood. Overall good experience.
The place is wonderful. But the house had giant ants, and the kids were afraid. The linens were only on the bed and not on the couch. Only one towel, old and ripped. No cutting board. Disposable dishes were piled behind the furniture, and we felt they were dirty and used our own. The house is good for 2 people max. But overall, we had a great time there. The river view is incredible.
This is definitely rustic but being right on the river is beautiful. This is the 3rd year we have stayed there and my husband loves the fishing. The host is so kind and stays in communication with you. Love this place!
We once again loved our stay at the cabin. It was a peaceful get away in a beautiful location. Julie is the best hostess. She made sure we had everything we needed.
The cabin was a peaceful oasis right on the river! They had a fire pit to relax at night and a swing by a picnic table to enjoy my morning coffee and watch the sunrise. Great location, close to holland but far enough out to get peace and quiet.
My husband and I wanted to have a place to stay where we could fish the river from our rental. This place did not disappoint! As it states in the listing, it is semi-rustic. No fancy amenities, just the very basics. We loved it! Julie was a great host. She is very friendly and helpful. We are looking forward to staying here again next Spring or Summer.
Such a great stay, host was very sweet, she even gave us some fire started for a wonderful riverside fire. The cabin has all the basics you need to get by. No more than 3 people can sleep comfortably. Futon in the living room was not comfortable, but bed was fantastic for my daughter and I.
You can easily get to saugatuck, HollandâŠ.. Hiking, canoeing, Delicious restaurants, restaurants, and lots of activities, including putt putt.
The cabin was just right for my husband and me. He was able to fish and I was able to check out the historic bridge nearby, go for walks and watch the river. There is a train that passes through infrequently. We did not find that to be a problem. I recommend the cabin to anyone who wants to get away from it all and wants to be close enough to get to beaches and towns on Lake Michigan. Any kayakers would be really pleased with this location.
Julie was a phenomenal host. The wife and I was looking for some peace and quiet and we found every bit of it in this little cabin. Julie supplies are the basic essentials needed to get through a camping trip. The scenery was perfect.
We really liked this place. The view of the river is breathtaking, the host was friendly, and the weather was great. The place was clean and comfortable.
Great view and scenery just feet from the river.
Described as a camping cabin, the pictures show a toilet and shower. What the pictures don't show is that the toilet and kichen refrigerator and stove are separted only by a shower curtain. There are no walls, no doors and no handwashig sink. We were expecting a minimalistic camping cabin. We did not expect to share a kitchen and bathroom with no physical partition.
Lovely location, beautiful view, good spot for fishing, relaxing, good little set up for cooking out and enjoying a fire. The bad part is trying to get to the water the walk ways are bad use extreme caution. However, the cabin overall was nice as a short little getaway but the water backs up quickly in the sink, the toilet doesnât flush properly, the hot water is extremely limited, soft spots in floor makes you have to use caution when walking.
Julie is a great host! Very responsive and helpful. She even went above and beyond to locate a light jacket that was accidentally left behind and mailed it to us! Cabin is basic and rustic, as accurately described in the listing. Perched directly on the riverbank with nice water views and a cozy fire pit complete with split wood to burn. We spent most of our time (other than sleeping) outdoors, eating our meals at the picnic table or in the Adirondack chairs overlooking the river. Also rented kayaks from Julieâs business next door. They drove us upstream to launch the kayaks and we paddled/floated 9 miles downriver back to the cabin. A peaceful and serene tripâŠno sign of people, boats or structures for hours, just the wild and scenic river. Also enjoyed walking across the New Richmond swing bridge and exploring the riverside boardwalk. All in all, it was a relaxing and memorable visit.
This little cabin was perfect for my wife and I to get a chance to reconnect. We enjoyed the peace and quiet at the cabin and the short drive into Holland for an amazing dinner.
This cabin is exactly as listed - and is perfect for a weekend away. Quiet and such a beautiful view on the river. Julie was quick to respond to any questions. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking to camp and explore the SW Michigan area!
Local resident of over 30yrs. I own and operate a small livery and river outfitter service on the Lower Kalamazoo River. My husband and I have spent many years enjoying the river with our family and teaching our kids to hunt and enjoy the natural environment. We now have the opportunity to share it with others while promoting stewardship in younger generations. We hope you will come join us!
Sunrise on our riverbend is an amazing view! And you can watch it from your private yard. You won't find a more relaxing place to escape the hustle and bustle of local attractions.
