Our cottage is a stand alone space on our property. We are in the Santa Cruz mountains 25 miles south of San Francisco, 10 miles from the beach and 1 hour from Santa Cruz. Our cottage looks down upon a lovely creek from a beautiful deck. Our area offers many open space hiking and biking trails.

A great spot in the woods

I'm a hiker and I've twice stayed here to access the great trails and beaches of San Mateo County. You can't go wrong staying here.

Great cottage

Immaculate, cute, and well appointed. Loved listening to the creek and being able to make use of the kitchen and gas grill. Convenient for hiking-appreciated the washer and dryer! If you are coming from San Francisco, Roberts market is a great stop on the way over. La Honda market also has some staples. Highly recommend this cottage, wonderful relaxing stay.

A beautiful retreat

Very welcoming, cozy, immaculately clean and well-appointed cottage. The beautiful natural setting is just as described. Lea made communications and staying there so uncomplicated. Truly was a getaway in every way.

Perfect in every way!

We loved this cottage! It was super clean, spacious, comfortable and had everything we needed for a perfect stay. The highlight was the very private deck overlooking the burbling creek and gorgeous trees. We’re already figuring out when we can come back.

Lovely Stay

I stayed overnight for some peaceful alone time at this property. House was clean, nicely decorated and spacious. The little stream and forest outside added to the cozy cabin feel. Despite a local power outage, the owners provided generator power and were very accommodating. I will definitely stay again!

Marvelously Peaceful

We needed a peaceful retreat prior to a Monday morning appointment at the Stanford Spine Center. This cottage in the redwoods was just perfect. Lea greeted us when arrived. And we enjoyed a peaceful, private stay. Listening to the gentle flowing creek was wonderously soothing. We'll be back a couple more times for surgery and follow-up.

Lovely!

What a sweet space! Lea was a wonderful host. A friend came over for dinner and commented "I could live here". The sound of the creek is lovely, kitchen is amazingly well stocked and plenty of privacy. Highly recommend!

Amazing Cabin

Wow what a great cabin! The place was very spacious and comfortable and had everything you might need in the kitchen. The location is in a great spot that is out of the city and was so peaceful and relaxing. Perfect spot to telex on the deck and listen to nature.

Perfect little cottage and location, The owner Lea was the perfect hostess I told her based on the entire cabin and experience, "If She (Lea) didn't have it, you don't need it". An exceptional getaway

The property is gorgeous. Loved listening to the stream outside. The cottage was beautifully appointed. Lovely linens and kitchen ware. Delicious snacks and beverages. But the best part of my stay was my interaction with Lea and her husband. They were welcoming, respected my privacy and went out of their way to accommodate my needs. So grateful for their warm kindness and generosity.

Perfect Cozy Cottage, Would Stay Again

My partner and I needed a place to stay overnight to attend a wedding nearby at The Mountain Terrace. Lea’s property and cottage were beautiful, we were so grateful to experience La Honda’s beauty. The cabin is spacious and very well stocked, we appreciated the all the thoughtful touches like extra towels and blankets. Don’t skip this one you won’t regret it!

Unexpected beauty!

The pictures and description don’t do this rental justice! It’s in the middle of a redwood forest and the creek is wonderful! Lea has set the place up perfectly and has thought of so many special touches. We would come back in a heartbeat!!

Perfect spot for a retreat.

First off, Lea was great at communicating from the beginning, even prior to our official booking. We were attending a wedding two miles up the road, and this sweet little place was perfect for everything we needed. We were impressed by the cleanliness, amenities, and LOVED hearing the water run through the creek below. It made the energy of the unit so peaceful. Thank you, Lea, for your hospitality.

Redwoods Hiking Trip

A satisfying exhale was this road-weary Angeleno's response to entering this private and beautiful cottage in the woods. The personal touches abound and everything you need to feel at home is already provided. Comfort, relaxation, and hiking adventure is at your immediate discretion in either the comfy bed, outdoor deck overlooking a babbling stream, or the redwood forests in which this cottage is located. Every appliance was in perfect working order, the kitchen fully-equipped, and the bathroom fully-stocked with everything but the most personal preference in linens and toiletries. Simply a great place to relax, decompress, and recharge.

Cottage in the Woods

For years, VRBO has been my go-to. With a few exceptions, my experiences have been positive. However, none has topped the wonderful get-away we had in Lea's cottage. The scent of redwoods and flowers greeted us, accompanied by the sounds of the flowing creek. The cottage itself was welcoming: meticulously clean, equipped with everything we might have needed and much more. My only caveat: make sure Google takes you to the correct address.

The Cabin Anyone Would Love to Stay At!

The location of the property is well suited to exploring California’s coastal areas and foothills. The cabin exterior doesn’t do justice to the hospitality within. We found the cabin cozy and friendly, with an interior that is lively, open, uncluttered, with natural lighting, and unobtrusive reminders to relax and enjoy the setting. There are all the amenities of a best-in-class VRBO. The deck off the back sits next to small brook that makes the perfect spot to have a glass of wine and enjoy the natural setting and seclusion. We usually try to meet the host to thank them for the stay, but a change to our itinerary didn’t make that possible. None the less, she made efforts to make sure we were comfortable and taken care of.

Delightful cottage nestled in the redwoods

The photos online do not do this property justice. The feeling from the moment you drive up is wonderful. Newly landscaped grounds look botanical garden inspired and the creekside setting among the redwoods, maples, and alders is just the recipe I needed for a recharge. Located only a couple miles east of the historic town of La Honda and close to Half Moon Bay, Filoli Gardens, dozens of amazing beaches along Hwy 1, and miles of hiking trails in multiple directions. The cottage feels brand new and the hosts have done a great job stocking it with a variety of items to make your stay more enjoyable. This one was a genuine 5-star stay.

La Honda Happiness

We normally celebrate out anniversaries on the North Coast but for our 40th, we opted for a redwoods retreat closer to home. Wow, did we score. The Cottage in the Woods is a perfect getaway for two. The Cottage looks like new, is very well appointed and stocked with items you seldom see in a vacation rental. The location, right beside La Honda Creek is lovely. The creek provides all of the white noise you need and the breeze through the redwoods and pine is soothing. In all, a great place to relax, and Lea is the perfect host with weath of knowledge about the area. If going on a nice sunny weekend, you may be well advised to plan on hanging out at the cottage as the roads are very twisty and full of people with more unmuffled horsepower than sense. Weekdays are a joy, less noise and roads are fine to drive to the beach or up Skyline Drive.

I will stay longer next time!

This is an extremely well-stocked place. Lea is a so thoughtful host. I had so many wow moments during my 2 nights of stay. The medicine cabinet has a box of bandage, disposable razors, dental floss picks, cotton swap, etc. The pantry has tons of spices on the kitchen side of the cabinet, and even a box of USB charging cables on the other side of the cabinet. The pans are all new. The refrigerator has condiments, bottled water/juice/milk/bear, yogurt, eggs, etc. The bedding is extremely soft and clean. The location is also amazing. We were able to experience the cool oceanside along the HWY 1, woody forest, and open space overlooking the valley. Two nights of stay was not enough to enjoy this amazing place. I'm so glad I found Lea's cabin, and hope to stay here again. Thanks Lea!
