Lovely Villa for our family holiday. The outside pool area and seating area was perfect. Well equipped kitchen and bbq. The beds however we very hard but got used to them by then end of the week.
We had hired a car which I would say was needed as the walk down to the beach wasn't on the best roads.
The Villa is in a good location to explore surrounding area.
Having read the previous review I had some concerns, but these were unnecessary. We arrived about 45 minutes early, but only had to wait a few minutes until the people next door (the owners parents I believe) arrived to let us in. Whilst they spoke no English they were able to show us all we needed to know in about five minutes and then they left us to it. They were very friendly. The man did come in early in the morning during our stay to water plants and check the pool, but unless you're a very early riser (06:30) you will not see or hear him. We certainly had no concerns about privacy.
The owner also checked with us shortly after to make sure that everything was ok, and to make sure that we had a number to reach her if necessary.
The house itself is exactly as described, rustic but with all the modern appliances you need in the kitchen. It has everything needed. The pool is a very good size with plenty of space around it. There are plenty of shaded areas to sit outside too.
Whilst the house is a little out of town we were able to walk right down to the beach and all the restaurants in 15 minutes without too much effort. A pleasant enough walk on a warm evening. I wouldn't recommend walking back in the dark as the lighting isn't great, but you can get a taxi just past the Holiday Inn, facing Cafe Busiris, and that will only cost five Euros.
We enjoyed our stay and I have no hesitation in recommending this property. I would happily return to it of I were staying in the area again.
The property was located in an isolated area. The nearest supermarket was listed as 400 meters away. This was a stretch of the imagination to say the least. It should be stated that this property is on an unlit road which is narrow and hilly. It is fine for fit people but would be totally unsuitable for anyone with difficulty in walking. A hire is really required. the Villa intself was in good condition with the exception of the beds! The matresses were thin and worn and problematic with regards to a good nights sleep. The pool area is the outstanding feature of the villa.
We were very excited for our stay at Villa Hedwidge however found the lack of communication very poor. Despite numerous emails and calls no one was available to meet us at the property. After some time we were able to get through the main gate and were relieved to find keys in the fron door so let ourselves in.
Two days later and we still hadn't heard from the owner so reached out to the property manager to obtain WiFi access. The owner finally came to the property whilst we ate with no notice or even a hello from the front gate. This lack of privacy reared again a few days later when a man living upstairs decided to walk on to the property through a side gate angrily shouting in Portuguese at us. He held three fingers up at us as he shouted so we assume the issue was the number of people at the villa at the time based on our reservation for three adults - we had friends over for lunch (a family of 2 adults and 2 children). We'd rented the villa and should have been allowed privacy and the right to have friends over for a few hours during the day. This experience left us feeling unwelcome and also concerned about security of the property and ourselves. We also felt we were under a curfew with the pool lights seemingly accessed from the upstairs property and switched on and off at their convenience.
We would have also had liked there to be some basic provisions left for guests (such as bin bags, washing up liquid) however appreciate that this was not listed as being supplied with the villa. The villa could also benefit from a welcome pack detailing local amenities such as where to dispose of rubbish.
Although our experience was marred by the above, I will add that the property itself is well located and a great size.
The Villa Hedwiges is a rustic chalet, situated 800m from the beach of Armacao de Pera, in a very quiet area and perfect for holiday with family and friends.
