We had a wonderful vacation! The weather was perfect all week long, and the ocean view was stunning. The house was clean and well cared for. The only drawbacks were the kayaks were unusable, as were the two beach chairs, and the walk to the beach was longer than we anticipated. But overall, we had a wonderful time.
Beautiful and relaxing views from the house. Beautiful and quiet neighborhood. Chill vibe. The house is clean, comfortable and has all of the needed amenities. We would have liked more sunny days but still had an amazing time! Would love to return during the hotter months.
The setting is spectacular! Gorgeous sunrises every morning -set right on the water's edge. Host is very helpful, accommodating, and communication was wonderful. Charming home with great selection of books and games.
Me, my husband and family members that stayed with us very much enjoyed the calmness and the beauty of the property. The view is amazing. It's very convenient that we can just take out the kayak right there to enjoy the out door activity!
Overall, we enjoyed ourselves very much. The house is older and a very traditional beach house, but with some nice, open concept, spaces with comfy furnishings to hang out in, and the water is right there. The neighborhood is super quiet, the kitchen had everything we needed for basic cooking and the bookshelves were full of amazing books. In fact, I'd like to invite the owner/reader of these wide-ranging books to dinner as this person would be very interesting for sure. There was only a couple of drawbacks, and I should have paid closer attention to the amenities listed in the listing, as there is no AC in the house at all, but there were fans in every room. We had two days of high 90s temps with high humidity, and we suffered, especially at night and first thing in the morning when the sun pours in the East facing Master bedroom windows which have no shades or blinds whatsoever to block the sun. However, on regular 80-degree summer days, it cooled down nicely at night and AC was not needed. Still a 5-star experience but I'd bring dark sheets with me next time to cover the windows on the odd day I want to sleep in.
It is an older hime (built in 1910) as such it has many cosmetic 'wrinkles' that need attention.
However, the view is spectacular and we were very comfortable.
We absolutely loved the views, tides, and location. Went kayaking and SUP almost every day. Sunrises were stunning. The cottage was simple and perfect. A gem. We enjoyed going to the Guilford green for walks, errands, throwing a football, etc. We would love to return!
A charming vintage cottage with a panoramic view of Long Island Sound. Enjoy the water, collect shells, wake to the sunrise. We connected with nature and the lovely neighborhood. Everything you need is generously provided. Minutes away from Guilford's fabulous restaurants, book store and bakery. A true gem, I hope we can return soon..
This is a much loved family cottage in a stellar location directly on the water, nestled amongst other cedar shake cottages of roughly the same vintage. Our stay was in the winter and we found the heating system to be a bit sluggish, especially in the kitchen, although the upstairs bedrooms were toasty. Be aware that the upstairs twin bedroom has only a curtain separating it from the hallway, and lacks curtains on the exterior window. The fireplace and well-stocked bookshelf, including books written by the owners family (!), were a very nice unexpected bonus. The bathrooms and kitchen, in which we cooked a full Thanksgiving dinner, are very functional but showing their age. To us this added to the charm and authenticity of the property but it might not appeal to all renters. Another unexpected bonus was the extensive network of hiking trails in Cockaponset state forest, with a trailhead just a few miles from the house. We greatly appreciated the owners opening their home to renters, and very much enjoyed the comfortable, family feel of the cottage, and of course the amazing location.
We had the most wonderful stay at this home. The location is amazing, truly waterfront, with gorgeous views from the main living area and main bedroom. The house had room for our family of 3 to spread out and enjoy different spaces. One thing I really liked was that the house wasnât cluttered with unnecessary furniture - so many beach rentals feel stuffed with furniture and decor, but this house felt open and airy with lots of room for our daughter to set up her toys on the floor. The decor felt timeless and casually classy. I was also very impressed by the selection of books, puzzles and games. We have spent several vacations renting houses sort of near the beach where the house becomes just a home base where you sleep and eagerly get out in the morning. This was totally different - we didnât even want to leave the house - the house WAS the vacation. We canât wait to come back!!
Very nice home! Kitchen is so much bigger than expected. With so many windows, we were stunned by the ocean view when we first walked in. Just beautiful! The home is wide open, lots of space on the first floor. Anything we needed was there. Love that there is a bathroom on each floor. It was a very hot week but there were plenty of fans to use. Loved seeing the tides come in and out. Kathy was so easy to communicate with. This is a really nice place to stay. I highly recommend it!
Beautiful water views from 1st and 2nd floors. Relaxing property right on the water. My children had a blast using the kayak and paddle board. We appreciated that life jackets were available. Very quiet neighborhood with a 3 minute walk to the association beach.
The description on VRBO was quite accurate.
It was a basic, cozy waterfront cottage. Very workable kitchen, comfortable beds, lots of extra linens, lots of room to relax both inside and out. There was a negative, however: a few windows were not working properly, two were unable to be cranked shut and had to be pushed shut from the outside and a few were totally missing the crank mechanism. Some window replacement is definitely needed. And, in the kitchen, there was a mouse, which I killed. This definitely is a waterfront property- -absolutely magnificent views.
This house has been in our family for nearly 100 years. It is a simple house, the very definition of "cottage." While it is comfortable and beautiful, it is not luxurious. Don't expect granite countertops or high-end amenities - DO expect beautiful sunrises, soothing waves, and good creative vibes, for writers especially. (Our father was a well-known mystery writer and wrote many books here.)
You'd have to be on a houseboat to get closer to the water. The view is spectacular, at high tide especially. Kids will love exploring the tidal pools and shell-y sand. Mulberry Point is a quiet, family-oriented neighborhood, so if you're looking for a place to party ... this would not be it.
